Question for ZOS: why is there a 12 ticket cap on event tickets ?

[MODS: please keep this in General Discussion, thanks. This is a question aimed at ZOS, not other players]

All other in-game currencies have very high caps, so why is the cap on event tickets so low ? Can someone from ZOS please explain the reasoning behind this ?

I think it's so people don't overstock during some events (like 3 tickets for logging in during the anniversary) and immediately buy the newest item. Limiting us encourages participation in more of the events.

That, and if people run out of time they have to buy tickets from the cash shop...

there is a 12 ticket cap to incentivize buying tickets with crowns, because otherwise heaven forbid players save up their tickets for something they want

i also wouldnt say all other currencies have very high caps *looks at transmute stones* lol

i agree that 12 ticks is a bit too limiting, i think it should be at minimum double of that or 24 tickets

zos is so stingy with tickets im stingy with spending them or try to optimize buying the stuff with tickets that you cannot obtain by trading

I would have like 500 tickets right now if there wasn't a limit. I'd also do more events to hoard more because I sit on 12 tickets from 2 events ago if there's absolutely nothing I really want to purchase.

It is literally the bare minimum you need to be able to get in order to buy something for 10 tickets while not being forced to lose tickets.

The minimum limit is not 10 because it’s possible for an event to give three tickets at a time, and if you’re at 9 tickets then a 10-ticket cap would force you to lose 2 of your next 3 tickets to get to 10.

OP, this is why there's a cap. I would be the same - save up my tickets for something I really want, or do it to avoid an event in not interested in.

Its to force engagement. Not enough tickets to give us everything we want, keep us coming back for more. Those people who have to have everything will then get lured in to buy more tickets from the Crown Store. Other players will use their tickets on something they don't particularly want or need, just to stop themselves from hitting the cap.

Exactly this. I don't do pvp events. So I don't have those tickets. Then again, there hasn't been anything much I've wanted (other than the indriks I didn't get that I still want) so sure, you can say there's no reason for me to keep more than 12 tickets on each account, both PC megaservers.

I just find the artificial "limit" situation to be annoying - and actually, that drives my reluctance to spend the tickets I have. There are a few events I won't do - the aforementioned pvp ones, the undaunted ones. The rest I do because they're fun (some being more fun than others of course - but I do spend some time in all the rest each year).

As long as the limit is in place, I'll be very careful to exit any event in which I participate with 12 tickets on all my accounts both pc megaservers.

It's the same reason Endeavors take 6-10 months of constant grinding to get enough for something good. It pushes you towards spending money on it to get it, or you might miss your chance to get it. It's a concept called Limited Scarcity. It's why we have a rotation of crown crates, why the cool stuff in the cash shop is only there for a few days at a time then goes away... It's a psychological tactic. They can't do limited scarcity when you could save up your tickets or get enough to buy the stuff you want in a day. It's why you only get 3 a day in a week-long event, and why it takes so long to earn endeavors.

There's a 12 ticket cap to incentivize participating in more events. The cap existed before buying tickets for crowns existed.

People would stockpile tickets and then skip the events they don't like. ZOS want an incentive to play every event, even if it is not your normal choice of gameplay. For one, they want the events to be bustling with activity, especially the ones that lean toward group play. And two, they are hoping some people will find they like content they do not normally participate in. Like if the Undaunted Event gets someone to queue for a random normal, or join in with some guild mates, and maybe they find they like 4-man dungeons more than they would have thought.

True. But I'm not into "bustling". The less people in my vicinity the better for me. As for content I would not normally do - nope. Not happening.

In general, I don't do group content (as my mega ping is not a thing I want to drop on groups). And I have zero use for the undaunted stuff. I only do "my normal choice of gameplay" - which is questing and crafting. Oh? I didn't ger some reward for doing stuff I hate? Not a problem.

I pay 3 annual subs. I don't care what the "normal choice of gameplay" is. I do what I want to do, what's fun for me. The whole reason for playing a game is to have fun.

I already do that. I have 12 tickets from the last event, and no reason to participate in the current one.

The ticket cap is 12 only if you have ESO+, otherwise it IS 10.

    (unless they've recently changed that.)

It's been 12 since tickets were introduced:

      https://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/news/post/54935

"Note that you can only carry 12 Event Tickets at a time and that they are an account-wide “currency” that can’t be traded, so be sure to pick up those Indrik Feathers before trying to earn more. Don’t forget, the amount of Event Tickets you can earn per day depends on the event (one, two, or three), and you need 10 Event Tickets in total to purchase a single Indrik Feather!"

Is there another currency that is limited by ESO+ status? Because I got the notion from somewhere, so I'm apparently confusing tickets with something else.

The thing is, you aren't their only target for these events. And it certainly does drive engagement with other areas of the game for many players, including those who find they enjoy the activity they've just tried for the first time.

        Transmute crystals?

        I don't think that's what's tripping me up.
I mean I know the transmute crystal cap is double for ESO+, but I could have sworn that, at least at some point, ESO+ ticket cap was 12, and non-ESO+ was 10.
Did it maybe used to be that way in the very beginning of event tickets, and they changed it because of backlash or something?

I know I'm partially dain-bramaged most days, but this recollection is strong, for some reason.

They were initially capped at 10 on the PTS. But when they debuted on live, it was already 12:

          https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/425575/pts-patch-notes-v4-1-1/p1

ETA: To clarify, there was never a difference with ESO+. But this is why I always remembered there being a cap of 10, since they didn't mention they changed the cap in any subsequent notes. It was just 10 on PTS initially and 12 on live.

Man, that really got stuck, and quite jumbled, in my head.

But I also just went through ALL of the event articles, back to the Oct. 2018 article that announced Event Tickets, and the cap was at 12 at the time that article was posted.
