Crafting all the same?

I have been crafting items for my Wood Elf Nightblade medium armor/bow welding character. I get the basics of the crafting system, however I cannot find much information on looks and designs. I have crafted the medium pieces every two levels for added defense, yet it all looks the same except for a slight color change. Is this how the crafting is, all the same? Same with my bows.

I see others around my level wearing some very nice armor and some variance to their weapon appearance, so I am either doing something wrong or am I suppose to be leveling the crafts non stop to get a new tier? I know there are different sets from what I recall from Skyrim... do I need to do the same here and level the crafts to get new set appearances?

Thanks,

You unlock different racial styles by finding 'racial motif' books. Your armor sets will also look different depending on the level of the gear and the location(!) where you crafted it.

As SirAndy said, there are other racial styles that you can learn that are different looking, but also if you level up your crafting you can start using higher level materials when you reach the 15+ zones where they are available and those will look different again.

I have not found any of those Motifs yet, but I do know they exist and those do change if you get them. So if you are crafting, from 1-14, I will be wearing the same design I currently am... and when I hit 16 there should be a new medium and wood requirement from how the recipes look. When that happens, my armor look will change I am guessing?

Just weird because I know I was seeing a level 12 wood elf streamer wearing medium leather and this gear was so much better looking than mine... which just looks like rugged... however his character was wearing armor that looked like a real assassin.

I know gear does change slightly as you level it...like you said...mostly in color. Are you making strictly White quality items or are you using Tempers to improve the quality. That may also be a factor, my green bow does look different from the same level white bow that I made.

I liked the look of the armor I got in random loot more than the initial medium armor I was crafting. But yes, you'll get access to actual leather instead of rawhide in the next level of armor and I think it's oak instead of maple next for woodworking.

Hopefully you'll also find some other racial motifs soon, in beta I finally found my third one at about level 17.

You can see at least some of the different ones here, just to give you an idea of what's available. http://eso-fashion.com/

Been using just the basic white atm, not sure if you can buy those materials from a vendor somewhere to further up the quality (normal to green) since I think the one time I did it I got them from from greens I broke down. Took me forever to figure out where to get the bones for crafting lol.

Chance, that is a great link, made me excited for level 26 lol. Leather though, hope its gets better drop wise it is such a pita getting only one or two scrapes and not many mobs along the way to a quest... literally gotta stay in one spot to focus farm them.

Thanks all for the insight, I appreciate it.

I heard the more material you add to it not only improves the stats of the item but also changes the look slightly. Like here with all the Argonian maces. http://elderscrollsonline.com/en-uk/news/post/2014/03/19/creating-eso-crafting-facts I still haven't seen a difference, but it says there is.

What about those Improvement option, say for Woodworking where can you get those materials like Pitch, Turpen, etc that change normal to Fine, Fine to Superior, etc? I checked the merchant and the ones for each profession but they do not have. I know I got a few Pitch from deconstruction.. is that the only way to get them?

Yes, from what I've heard, you only get Improvement materials from deconstructing Fine/Superior/etc armor. Apparently when you get up to legendary those may improvements drop as loot, but that's still a long way off lol.

Sadly, that means they don't show up nearly as much as you'd like, hence why there are skills that enhance what you get deconstructing items and allowing you a better chance of improving.

After playing again once my 3 day access started, I realize you can also get improvement material from processing raw materials. Sorry for forgetting that!
