Do people really fret the cost of Wayshrines/teleports?

I've seen this a couple times in G chat and here on the forums. People talking about ways to avoid the fees for porting all over the map. Does it get more expensive at max level? I'm still leveling my character and not even level 40 yet, but the average cost I'm seeing when I port to places for quests is 200-400. I have seen it higher and sometimes just over a hundred, but all of that seems like a paltry amount of gold. Again, I'm still leveling, but just doing quests and looting the thousands of containers I come across, I've found a lot of motifs, recipes and plans that sell for decent money. My very first time listing stuff on our guild trader, I sold one item for 22,000 gold. The next night I made 45k in gold from 2 other items. It's almost like they just throw gold at you. So it makes me wonder what there is to spend all the gold on at the end game? Are people broke from crafting or something?

Not a joke post, I'm really interested to know if there is some huge money sinks later on? Maybe instead of just porting all over the place at free will, I should be hoarding the gold?

Nope not a gold sink really. With CP passives you can get the price way down. I still won't pay it though. Don't know why. I port to a guild member then port to where I actually want to go.
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."

Theres no real gold sinks in this game. All long time players have 10s, if not hundreds of millions in bank. You get gold by simply playing the game and it just piles up. The only thing you can do with it is buy crowns as most expensive stuff is crowns only. Next patch we are finally getting a house purchasable with gold, but even that is only 1.3 mil.

There aren't a lot of big gold sinks overall... housing is one if you're into it. Some people pay a lot of gold for carries. Gearing out multiple alts in top gear every time the META changes can get pricey. You can also pay people with gold to have them gift you crown items.

(EDIT: Before someone corrects me, these generally aren't true gold "sinks", as the gold is just being transferred from one player to another and not being removed from the game... but they are things you might sink your gold into at endgame).

Idk maybe there are a couple more that aren't occurring to me right now.

That said, the cost of porting isn't going to make or break you when you're at that stage. And as mentioned, you can lower the cost via a CP perk. I still tend not to pay it out of principle lol - usually port to a friend / guildie / house that I own.

I don't worry about it anymore, and cost for me is 73g to 500 something. I port from where I am 99% of the time, instead of going to a wayshrine. Time is more valuable. BeamMeUp and also having houses to port outside of make travel very easy.

And I have little need for gold at this point. I've already stopped doing writs on multiple characters as I don't need the gold. Looking forward to new sets on the golden vendor, as I have not had anything to buy in weeks.

I hate paying fees and most of my characters don't actually carry much gold so I virtually always use the port to my house that is by the wayshrine.

Its more that its annoying I say.
Now for newer players with little gold and not knowing all the traveling tricks it can be an issue. First you are rarely in an hurry except if in an group and you can port to group members for free.
Get the inn rooms and use them. Port to guild members.

For houses I say its a bit annoying if you ported to your house from a wayshrine to pick up an item from an chest and still have to pay full price to port out.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

It piles up. According to beammeup I've saved 1.5mil gold. And that's just after I got the addon and doesn't include porting to houses I think.

No. They aren't expensive. People just be automatically saving coin without really thinking too hard but how much it is they're really saving. It's not the expensive and I'll still sometimes avoid the fee for no reason and have millions of coins. IDK just automatic, like I said.

For me, it's just seeing the amount I've probably saved.

Example: suppose I would only ever port using gold once per day on average. Very achievable with my playstyle. Also assume I have always, since 2014, has the passive that lowers gold port cost to 73. Finally, also assume I never port when the cost is jacked up, only ever minimized.

    Given these constraints, that's

    73 gold x 365 days, or 26,645 a year. Since 2014, that'd be 239,805 gold.

Roughly 240,000 gold in the most underestimated charitable version of the maths. Just change a few variables slightly, and it starts to look way crazier.

146 gold once, 750 gold for the second each day for a year.

    896 x 365 comes out to 327,040 gold.

By now, I have a house in each of the areas I visit the most. I did afford the cheapest ones. They remain empty and are for me like additional "wayshrines" (typically, Mara's one is straight aside the wayshrine in Vulkhel, that is my parking town, so it's really handy). Thanks to that, travelling is cost free for me most of the time.

For other areas, thanks to my CPs, I pay 131g only. Beside, I'm lucky to have sufficient gold not to care anymore and I don't hesitate to just map travel, no matter the costs.

In everyday life I'm suspicious of small fees that might add up to more than it seems at first glance, and that carries over into games. I avoid wayshrine fees without much thought, it's just the way I do things.

And when you turn that to time... Lets say it takes average 2 mins to get to a wayshrine

    2min x 365 days x 9 years = 6570 minutes which is 4½ days

240k gold vs 4½ days of your life

240k gold is like 1 minute if you manage flip coins succesfully.

Crazy yeah :D and I also keep an eye out of the timer and use it sparely.

I have 110m gold and I still never port if it costs more than 100g
Luckily for pc we have a porting addon, so I usually port to the zone I need and from there to the specific shrine, but if nobody in a zone I need I port to a guildie and from there to a shrine.
When I'm in a raid I wait for my raid mates to port so I port on them, as I port to my house (for free) to charge ult, porting back is around 1000g so I just port to a raid buddy and save the gold.

    I don't think it's because it's expensive, it's because it's easy to avoid.

Why pay even a trivial amount if you can avoid it by spending a few seconds teleporting to a person in your guild or going to the nearest wayshrine to teleport from there?

Imagine you're standing outside a good quality and cheap restaurant, but the place over the street is just as good and giving away free food. Are you really going to choose to pay to save yourself the trouble of crossing the street?

I find having to pay to fast travel annoying, not so much unaffordable. I only do it if I'm in middle of nowhere, otherwise I go to the closest wayshrine, or fast travel to a home and use the local wayshrine.

I rarely pay the fees, I usually ride to the nearest wayshrine or teleport to one of my houses, only time I pay the fee is when I am feeling lazy and don't want to go through more than one load screen, even then I don't do it often enough for the fee to reach a stupidly high level.

it's 146 or ~70 with the champion ability that decreases the cost.
when you immediately want to travel to a wayshrine again without using a wayshrine it's ~1000 gold instead but you could just use a wayshrine or a really cheap house close to the location you want to travel to.

for example if you wanna go to Elden Root for traders or master writ completion you could get Snugpod for 45k.
Mournhold? there's an even cheaper apartment for 13k.

It's when you use it frequently. There's a cool down on the price. Immediately after you've used a way shrine if you try to port to one from the middle of nowhere it'll cost 1,000 plus.

And those particular prices end up being an issue for people who aren't guild members / don't sell through guild traders because they often have very significantly less gold floating around.

I dont even check the price anymore.
Since the cp 2.0 release with the wayshrine cost reduction star, bringing down the max cost at like 500g, its just pocket change. Do 2 daily writs and a mx travel is refunded. The only time i walk to a wayshrine is when im right by it. The only time i port to someone is when i either want to actually go to that person or i miss wayshrine there.

1- shrine port cost is range between min - max, with cooldown ~60-90 sec. Min cost w/ CP = 73 gold, Max = ~1k

2- can I easily afford max cost x 30-60 ports per day? Yes
Would I rather spend that gold I save by using free ports on something else? Also Yes.

3- why pay when free ports easily available almost always - several large trade guilds + homes in almost every zone = instant port via addon w/ 1 click on zone map list

4- because I craft daily x 18 chars, easily get 20-24 surveys saved up to do every other day. Doing them one after another means very little cooldown time, so ports would be almost max cost if not using free port to guild member / owned home

I can afford the ~20k gold port cost every other day for surveys, but why pay it when most the time 1-click free ports to same zone is available?

I already spent all the gold on houses for porting around. Don't see the point in spending more gold than I need to, and if I really, REALLY, need to get somewhere quickly I'll consider it. Like those absolutely backwater locations with not a wayshrine in proximity, and my destination region has a house incredibly far away from a wayshrine.
