What's up with crown crate gifting being disabled?

Howdy
As title, what's up with not being able to gift crates lately? Is there a thread somewhere I'm missing? I noticed the functionality was turned back on for a day or so when the Ayleid crates were removed from the store but it has since been disabled. Is it a bug with an ETA on a fix or is it a permanent adjustment? I'd like to buy me some shinies but prefer to do so with my game gold and haven't seen official dialogue on this.
