Skar level to beat boss?

i have just returned from a long hiatus and find my 39 Nightblade pa rked outside Skar entrance.
Once inside to do the quest I dispatch the minions ok. But when it comes to the boss he takes me out every time.
Should a 39 not be attempting this, and what level should I be?
Any tactical hints would be appreciated. I know this is old content but I need to get it done to move on.

✭You can ask for help in zone chat. Usually it's possible to help others with quest bosses (unless it's the main quest). If you're on PC EU, I could help you.
