If you group with someone in the same zone but a different instance it doesn't sync you, one player needs to zone to another zone then back. They need to fix this before they can consider your suggestion otherwise they making something broken even worse.

I think you misunderstood the point that was being made here. Zone chat is shared across the instances of the same zone already and this example makes that clear.
When trading items in zone chat, you often encounter people who are in other instances of that zone who read your message, but in order to be able to trade with each other, one of you will have to port into the instance of the other.

That aside the spam would be atrocious. Guild recruitment and looking to sell messages could almost drown out the inane trolling that takes place in the starter zones.

are you sure about this? A guild member and I were both in Craglorn. I told him I was joining a pug trial that was trying to fill in zone chat. He said he didn't see the messages in his zone chat.

Well, it's certainly shared across more than one instance of the zone. I am not sure if it's shared across all of them. Messages can be lost while in a loading screen, so maybe that could explain what you and your friend was experiencing? It's also possible your friend had the person who was asking in zone chat blocked. That would also completely hide these messages.

Not true. It is not shared.

Thats easy to deal with. Commerce chat separated. That would help everyone because the reach of messages would be better. People wouldn't need to spam wtb/wts or lfg because they would find deals and groups faster. That is what 99% of the mmos do. Just in ESO we got this mess. Limited communication.
And this is like a real story: Should we build walls around our homes to protect ourselves, and limit our experience? Or is the job of community to respect and the government to protect us?

Why are you so sure? Please elaborate why you think this is not the case.

Also this is not going to help with the spam in those chats at all. People keep having to spam them because anyone joining the zone has not seen these messages yet and so people keep putting up their sale and LFG again and again, and because the others are also doing it, you have to try to stay on top of chat.
I also don't get your example from real life. How does that relate to the chat again?

That is not something for guessing. Do the experiment yourself. Group with a friend and make sure you are in different instances then say something in zone.
Any good reason for Zone chat not being shared across instances of the same zone?
Any good reason for Zone chat not being shared across instances of the same zone?
In addition to the fact that you should not be able to Zone chat with people you cannot meet up with, some zones are super populated and may have a lot of "instances". Zone chat would scroll by so fast that you would not be able to read it.
People are separated to prevent crowding, and zone chat follows that separation.

Was neither of those. He was in game and when he ported to me he was able to see the messages. I've also had this scenario happen. Group is looking for healer and I am on DPS. I let them know I am getting on a healer and after switching characters I post in zone chat I am ready for invite and get no response. After that happened a couple of times I started sticky noting the player so I could whisper them after the character switch. Unless a change was made in the last year or so I don't think different instances share chat.
I do know long ago depending how far along in a quest a player was would determine what instance they saw. Our guild held fishing events and there were times where we could see a players bobber in the water but not see them. Once we got away from the quest area they would show up again. I think we could see the same zone chat then because we were kind of in an instance inside an instance. Not sure if that can still happen or not.

You can meet up with these people though. You just need to teleport to them once you are grouped. Why should you not be able to chat with people you cannot currently meet but can meet up at the press of a button?

What is the problem in teleporting to another player? They already make it easy by warning that the player is in another instance, and with the option to teleport to them. We already do it a lot for trading stuff. And why would you need to go back to the instance you were? Can't just teleport back to the friend/guildie you were with, if is that the case. This doesn't seem like a good reason.
It would be nice if we can select our instance's chat like you can in Everquest if the zone is full (i.e. Craglorn_1, Craglorn_2, Craglorn_3, in addition to zone chat etc). Such a system was no doubt discussed when this game was made, but they decided to couple the zone chat with the instance number.
