I'm not sure the linked page is the best guide, it concerns ceramics. In any case, the pronunciation would probably also vary by country: the USA pronunciation would no doubt be very different to the European, UK or Australian (for example).

No, don't post your "real" location. People have cultural backgrounds which mean that they have linguistic idioms - and no one in this total melange of a country should ever say "my way is the only right way"!

This doesn't always work in linguistics! It's like how we say pragMATic but we call someone a PRAGmatist.
Someone who does linguistics can probably say more about whether this just has to do with nouns or -ist endings, but I think arcanist is just one of those words that has multiple natural pronunciations.
