Short answer, probably not, but I wouldn't deter people from playing it either.

Overall, yes the game is good, but it's this game's combat system and open world pve that are lackluster. Oddly enough, we were just discussing this on Youtube the other day. Bugs are part of every game, so I'll leave that one alone.

*The action combat here is subpar. GW2, New World and BDO, just to name a few are superior. Combat is a vital part of every game. I do enjoy action combat over tab targeting, but it's average at best here, and it's not the weaving or the clipping.
*The jumping mechanic in this game, while not really that important, is the worst I've played in any MMO.
*Level scaling/sync is always a questionable design, and here it makes the open world completely tedious and not engaging. Adventuring out in any game is part of the experience and knowing you can kill almost everything with minimal effort is boring. It's one thing to have multiple starting zones, but level-syncing should have been kept to down and not up.

On the plus side, I do enjoy running around and checking out the zones after a long hiatus and running dungeons. The story is very good, the voice acting is one of, if not the best on the market. Classes are decent.

As mentioned, I probably wouldn't suggest playing this game, but offer a suggestion of at least trying it and allow the person to find out for themselves.

Yes, no doubts! I've played since 2015 and had an +1 year break until returning again this month but i've always recommended it.
There are no perfect MMOs but this one is great at so many levels.

It's Elder Scrolls so for me, yes.
No, I do not think the game is perfect.
Yes, there are many things I would love to see fixed.
But I've been lost in Tamriel for 20 years and ESO has captured the feeling I love well enough, (with its own unique twist) that I still find myself lost.
I've tried to get my brother to pick up ESO, but it's not his style.
I am trying to get my wife to start ESO, but all she cares about is Tales of Tribute.

I stopped playing a few games, and you won't see me on those games forums hanging out telling people not to play the game.

After finishing Skyrim, everyone said to never play ESO!

Then Some lame article had " Top 12 games to play, if you have an inch for more Skyrim like games"

I kid you not, ESO was at the last Spot, mentioning, like all the other games before ESO, even Redguard lol

I am so glad I this games was recommended to me over ff14 and wow when I asked :D

Since everyone has different preferences... try it if you own it ofc.

But I swear, you won't be seeing me on an official knitting forums telling people not to knit, as I don't like it.

So, ESO was my first introduction to Elder Scrolls. I have since gone back and played Skyrim, but found it to be a bit bland and boring without seeing random people running by on flashy mounts or seeing towns with actual people in them. Even with a companion in Skyrim, it felt very lonely and empty, with the same NPCs roaming around sparsely populated towns. In ESO, it feels more 'alive' and always cool to help a random player in public dungeon or delve.

I've tried other games including FFXIV and BDO. I found BDO's combat to be too complicated on a controller, and FFXIV's "monsters" to feel too strange to relate to, along with too much focus on 'group' content. With BDO's 'end game' being PVP focused, also caused me to lose interest. I feel the same about upcoming Diablo IV, while it looks cool, I think the never-ending combat and 'top down' camera would drive me nuts. Also the need to play every season or risk missing out on an addition to the story would make me feel unable to walk away to focus on other games.

Sure ESO has had it's share of issues. I've left the game in frustration MANY times since I started playing in 2015, but I always return due to no other game being as much fun. Even being a solo player, playing single-player games feels empty without the random person running by, as mentioned above. The added spontaneous activity or encounter makes the game feel more alive than any single-player game.

I most recently left after U35 due to them completely changing Templar, returned to play Necro, then ended up shifting back to Templar when I realized much of they hoopla over Templar changes was overblown. Magicka Templars, by most streamers, are still considered #2 or #3... so most complaints are from people who just WANT to be continually upset and just refuse to accept the new Templar visuals, which IMO, isn't so bad.

I digress... the point is, I wholeheartedly recommend ESO to solo players or casual players, who don't want the drama of competitive gameplay or who, for whatever reason, don't want to focus on group content. With addition of companions, IMO, has made ESO even more fun for solo players.

A lot of people will not recommend ESO for PvP, but it would be interesting if they were to confirm whether they are actively PvPing in ESO nonetheless  !

In any event, it doesn't cost you anything to log into the game and see whether you enjoy it - I always think that's a better way of finding out than asking others for their views.

Most of the PvP players left in ESO are just hanging on until something else decent, that works and gets supported, comes along. They're just biding their time and keeping a look out for a decent alternative.

Not anymore. I used to love ESO besause it was accessive to cusual players and granted them ample opportnuities to experience rich stories.
"Play the way you like" and "raise the floor" used to be promising slogans but in the end, the devs usrrendered to some elitist content creators and progression gamers.

I still recommend the game for the rich lore etc. but with the warning that this is becoming a new everquest 1 game.

I'm mostly a PvEeeer, but I've done PvP and my take is this: yes, there are serious problems and no new content has been added in years. However, I still have some fun in Cyrodiil from time to time. I can't say how much that fun would turn to frustration if I decided to go there every day, though.

There are countless quests, some of which are quite memorable (Wrothgar's main story, for example) and others are just bad (posting tour ads for very hostile Maormer pirates in Galen, really?). The stories are generally good, super-duper-secret identity of the Ascendant Lord notwithstanding.

Earlier dungeon quests are a nightmare to complete if you don't have a patient group, but the DLC ones don't require you to wait 5 minutes while some NPC blabbers about something. I also think devs have been doing a good job designing the latest dungeons.

There are so many places to explore, even just in the base game, that casual players will be entertained for a long time. Beautiful zones, too, such as Blackreach, Auridon and Vvardenfell.

Endgame content can be trickier, as the player is at risk of finding more elitism and toxic behavior. Be that as it may, I did find people who patiently let me join them on my first vet trials and I was way more critical of my performance than they were. Finding the right group can be challenging, but it's possible. Unfortunately, the demands of clearing such content are such that not a lot of build variation is possible. Think of it this way: a group needs to be optimized to beat those big baddies and for that to happen members need to have specific gear.

Overall, I'd recommend the game, though with the above qualifications.

It depends for what use. If the player would be searching for a nice game to chill in PvE, solo or with friends, then yes. However, I would not recommend it for a player searching for his/her main game.

My main - personal - reasons not to recommend ESO as a main game are:
    - The game content is limited (no underwater content, no mount content, no flying content, no jumping content, and so on...).
    - It needs addons for an acceptable quality of user interface.
    - The trading concept relies on addons.
    - I don't like the combat system.

Don't misunderstand me: I enjoy ESO as a game to chill aside of my main game. But I wanted to be honest about my reasons not to recommend ESO as a main game. That's entirely a matter of preferences.
I'm out of my mind, feel free to leave a message... PC/NA

I’d recommend for the story’s and solo quest aside from anything else. If someone is an elder scrolls
Fan they will get a lot of enjoyment out of just that content alone.

I am not a veteran of Skyrim or the Elder Scrolls franchise and freely admit that I was convinced to try it out by a very insistent friend. This friend and my successor as IT-admin of a rather large school system is a person whose opinion on games I highly respect as he was our countries premier e-sport player for a while.

I was concerned about the MMO aspect of the game but dear friend convinced me that I could enjoy the game as an solo player.

That was back in 2018 but "I'm still here. Thanks for asking" (Love Mirri Elendis LOL) as I would highly recommend ESO without a doubt.

My favourite waste of time <3

I would ask if they would like an elder scrolls game with luminescent clowns mounting all kinds of fauna. If yes, I would probably recommend it.
