Why are keybinds serverside?

This is incredibly inconvenient on occasion, such as when my computer is down and I play on my wife's computer. She also plays the game, has her own separate settings and addons, and uses different keybinds than I do, and when I return to my own computer I end up with her keybinds and have to go through the nightmare of resetting all my own bindings.
What, please, is the reasoning behind this being this way?

✭The fact that keybinds are serverside means that when you login on a different computer you get to keep your keybinds.
It sounds like your wife is using a keybind addon and it's rebinding your keys. In your situation I would disable that addon when playing on your wife's computer, then you can enjoy your keybinds there and not have them messed up when you return to yours.3
