Yes, last week's was rough and may have been the only time I didn't complete one.
Who was the obvious fallback, now you could run lots of RND (random normal dungeons) during double XP event.Thecompton73 wrote: »

I've been working on normal Maelstrom for years -recently just made it past the ice level - so assuming that everyone can complete it may be a bit much.

Go with oakensoul heavy attack build, that's a cakewalk even on veteran.

The mechanics of the fight still need to be followed with Oakensoul. It can actually sometimes be easier to complete the ice stage by doing less damage, depending on the player. Years ago, when I first completed vma, I was stuck on the ice stage for weeks because the mechanics were tough to discern. Once I started controlling my burn, I never had trouble with it again. I think that's one of the tougher stages as far as first clears go.
So, I definitely think the arena was probably a tough ask for a lot of players unfamiliar with it. This week, in comparison, is a breath of fresh air to a lot of players, most likely.
I'd normally do that one too, in fact it's my favourite weekly endeavour, but this time I'm just letting my daily writs do the work because I'm having a busy week at work. Just tomorrow's writs to do and the weekly endeavour's done.I managed to finish it yesterday, I think it took me about an hour in total to gather 100 materials, mostly doing crafting surveys but also picking up anything else I saw along the way.

That was the part where I got stuck too. And yeah, after all the "lol Maelstrom is so easy, you could fall asleep on the keyboard and you'd finish it" hyperbole the only bit of useful advice I finally got is using my DD character almost certainly meant I was doing too much damage which made it harder. (Which is very weird for me, normally my DPS is too low.)
I keep meaning to go back on my tank with her open-world build and see if it's any easier.

It's not so much that you need to bring a tank. It's that the boss in that stage does it's mechanics at different hp thresholds. So it's a lot easier to defeat the add she summons and pay attention to the troll you need to interrupt, if you're not also running for your life because she's breaking the ice flow.
So it's easier to beat up her a little until she summons adds. Kill the adds. And THEN push her to the point she walks towards the center to break the ice sheet.
It's easy to keep her out of those thresholds by just not putting dots on her.
