Why does Hide Shoulder cost 500 gold, but Hide Helm is free?

Now I just need a Hide Waist, Hide Boots, Hide Arms, and I'll be happy. Even at a cost of 500 gold each to apply (it's not that much, really).

Oh, and Hide Hip Flaps!

No. The Hide Shoulders can't be used "on the fly". You have to use the Outfit Station. I tried it first thing. No go.

the setting in the collection menu is strictly for polymorph helmets now

That’s the setting in the Settings menu.

The one in the collections > appearance menu hides costume helmets and your currently equipped gear.

For me I paid the 500 gold one time per outfit slot per character and I'm never removing it, any time I change the outfit styles the hide shoulder will stay hidden, so that's a lot cheaper than having to change shoulders for each outfit individually because it no longer matches your new style.

Just out of curiosity, have you tried changing your shoulder item to see if 'hide shoulders' actually remains active?

No, I just hid it and kept it that way and styled around the hidden shoulder.
