Cloudrest exploiters should have title and skin removed

    [snip]

Considering it was the way the mechanic functioned for FIVE years and there was another period of time when people were using 1-bar builds in there during which the mechanic was NOT changed (werewolves), I don't see how it is a faulty claim. I personally find the idea it was an exploit to be extremely dubious.

The facts of the matter are:

The mechanic existed as is for nearly 5 years.
The developers themselves noted that the patch was a functionality change, not a bug fix.
This was not the first time 1-bar builds became popular in vet dlc content. The last time this was the case, there was not an appreciable number of complaints about the functionality of the mechanic. Werewolves were doing this in cloudrest for years.

Those facts don't support the idea that it was an exploit. The developers of the game, who are the only ones who can authoritatively state what they did or did not intend, did not classify it as such. Nor was it something that could reasonably be claimed they' would have been unaware of as it existed for five years. Nor can the claim be made that the developers had never encountered strong 1-bar builds before, and thus couldn't have known to change it within those 5 years.

It seems clear to me this was a balance improvement as previously 1-bar builds weren't widely used enough for it this to become a big balance issue. Now that Oakensoul imbalanced the mechanic, its functionality has been improved to ensure new content doesn't trivialize old content.

That is not exploit nor should players be punished for playing the game as it was designed. I will agree that the mechanic is no longer balanced and people jumped at the opportunity to beat content using an imbalanced strategy. But bad balance isn't the same thing as a bug exploit and players shouldn't be punished for it.

    Not an exploit.

    Lets recap.

Did it prevent the game from conducting itself in a manner in which it was created to do?

    Yes

Was the original intention for the item to do this?

    No

Thats the very definition of an exploit my good sir

This mechanic is very easy as is Cloudrest in general. Give me a break. Total non-issue, but yeah let's ban people for using things that the developers made.

If Cloudrest was easy then why did these people not complete it until the became aware of the exploit?

I just remember that several years ago ZOS cracked out the ban hammer for people exploiting vAS. They handed out over 200 bans for an "exploit".

I don't think these two situations are comparable at all. The vAS HM exploit allowed people to kill the boss while outside of the combat area. It had to be deliberately set up and executed, and anyone with two brain cells could tell that it was definitely 100% an exploit.

Now, with Oakensoul you could cheese the Voltaic Overload mechanic, just like Mist Form initially made the portal on Bahsei HM trivial or how jumping down the waterfall cuts Fungal Grotto I/II runs in half. Should people who used those shortcuts be banned, too? But not only did you yourself still receive some damage from it, you also still had to do the entire rest of the fight and all other mechanics. As someone else mentioned, Overload is the easiest one compared to Hoarfrost and Roaring Flare, so it's not like the whole trial became a cakewalk.

As I said before: Werewolves and low-level players were already treated differently, so there was clear precedent for Oakensoul users to assume that they would be as well.

Did the devs specifically call it an exploit?

    NO!

End of story, no further discussion.

Until the devs come out and specifically say that it was an exploit, then no-one should be assuming that it was an exploit no matter what and no-one should be calling for bans of those who used a function within the game exploiters until the devs specifically state that it was an exploit.

Since people using oakensoul cannot actually bar swap, how about if they use the honor system, and hit the bar swap button when they get the mechanic? I’d be ok with that.
