Daily reset change and events

TunnelMaster
In general, I prefer the new timing for daily resets. It gives me more time to complete all my daily quests and endeavors, so I don't feel as rushed when I sign in at night. However, when it comes to events, I am very disappointed. It looks like even though dailies are resetting at 6:00am EDT now, the Jester's Festival is still running from 10:00am to 10:00am, like always. That means there will be just a 4-hour window in which players might get their last round of event tickets and drops (instead of an 8-hour window previously). And speaking as someone who lives on the east coast of the U.S., I just can't stay up until 6:00 in the morning - or set my alarm and radically shorten my night - just for two or three event tickets.

I will be getting significantly fewer event tickets this year, though, on account of this change. I appreciate that folks who live farther west might prefer the new dally reset with respect to events. But myself, it seems that if the devs sought to consolidate reset timers, they should have gone the extra mile and done the same for events - in which case they should also increase the length of future events by one full day to make up for the absence of that 4- or 8-hour window at the end.

So far I am liking the new timers but events have always made the last day impossible for me to get tickets, since they end at 7am my time. Not getting up early enough to do them.

Depends on your location. As an European I'm happy that the events are still 10AM EDT as it gives a chance to do them (although most people are still at work at that time). At least we still benefit from that as we have a lot more daytime server downtime than you in the US and it's always been like that - especially if patches etc will not go as planned we are having servers down in prime time. So yeah I think it's only fair.

I mean fair would be to really sync everything with daily reset timers, ZOS has set them to be at the same time that the bulk of each servers primary population is asleep. And yes I feel that system maintenance should be done like this as well. Doing so would give everyone a better shot at equal time.

I'm not happy that daily reset timers are different for different servers. I'm not happy that I can no longer just finish up the last day of the event before going to sleep. I'm not happy that there is a 3 minute timer when switching between servers and btw, its NOT from the moment you log in. its from the moment you log out and switch servers. how do I know? I just did endeavors on US server, which takes me longer then 3 minutes all in all. tried to relog to EU server? error 103. I tend to do endeavors before heading off for work or school, and I tend to do last day of event before heading to sleep (I used to do endeavors that way as well half the time, but its no longer an option, and that timer reset that was supposed to be ooooh so helpful to me as US est player? is the OPOSITE of that). it was already going to be rough with new SEPARATE timers, to play on 2 servers. now its even worse. and like.. zos... I buy crown stuff on both servers. are you trying to get me and others like me to stop spending money on your game? because that's how that happens by making it significantly more difficult in all the annoying ways.

I like the new daily timers.

The event tickets timings is just another reason to avoid events or, rather, to ignore the whole ticket grind nonsense and just play as normal with maybe some extra xp for a few days.

Forgive me for asking since the answer to this question may have been in the patch notes, but did the powers-that-be give an explanation why they decided to change the reset timers to begin with? I'm guessing there wasn't a poll that I missed asking players what they preferred...

Is the 3 minute way listed in the patch notes? This is very dismaying as quickly switching to EU and back again was the solution to some crashes/bug fixes.

The old system was great for me in New Zealand because reset time was around 7pm here so I could hop on after dinner and sneak in a last round of an event before I went to bed.

But i have no problem with the change, there are a tonne of upsides and this is the only real downside i see.

I suspect that they want to stick to one event start/end time that's uniform across all servers, so events start and end at the same time for everyone, everywhere.

With that in mind, and assuming they want the event start/end time to be during their normal office hours, in the PTS forum I proposed moving the event start/end to 2 PM ET, which would be either 2 PM EST or 2 PM EDT depending on whether DST is in effect. That time was calculated mathematically by taking the midpoint of the two reset times (which is 1:30 AM EST or 2:30 AM EDT), adding 12 hours to shift it into their office hours, and then shifting it another 30 minutes to 2 PM EST/EDT.

I don't think my suggestion was very popular, but to me it seems like the most logical and mathematically fair solution.

There is one timer I am not happy with in the new change, and that is my Enlightenment.

I liked that it marked the time I reached champion points on my first toon, something to definitely remember. That is something that I hoped would remain the same and not be changed. I understand synching up things like daily quests and such, but Enlightenment is highly individual and can be arbitrary.

Enlightenment for me also happened right before 5pm my time. I didn’t earn enough XP to use up much of my Enlightenment before dinner, so I would log in afterward to do so. Now, I guess I get Enlightenment will be in the morning, so I might not spend as much (or any) time playing after dinner anymore.

I agree that it's a pain, and I'm not getting a queue as I'd anticipated from the notes. Instead, I just get "an unexpected error." And I don't even have to log in on a character, just a server. So if I launch the game and Steam automatically logs me in on one server (because it happened to be the server I'd previously selected before closing the game in my last play session), but I had actually wanted to play on the other server first, I can log out of the first server, select the other server, and get "an unexpected error" when I try to log in.

Yeah, it's especially annoying on Steam because you need to be careful to select whichever server you want to play on first in your next session before you close out the game, otherwise you'll get auto-logged in on the "wrong" server and have to wait for 3 minutes before you can successfully log in on the "correct" server, all because you had forgotten to preselect the correct server when closing out your previous play session.

Thanks for posting this. I wasn't aware of this 3-minute server switch penalty. apparently, it's supposed to provide a better 'technical' experience, whatever that means. It might explain the errors seen lately as I tend to flip servers.

This server switch penalty is NOT a welcome change.

    I truly dislike this change...

I would propose letting each person CHOOSE if they want the resets to happen at say, either 11am or 11pm. Give two times and each person chooses the one that works best for them. For everything, writs, horses, endeavors, log in rewards, dailies... So people in different parts of the world have a manageable reset and there's not a huge load on the servers.

The server switch penalty is AWFUL. There's no reason for that at all, as they're two different servers and aren't connected. I don't know who thought people would like this. It's just annoying. It's bad enough waiting for the load screen and then suddenly, "Oh, sorry, you can't log in for 3 more minutes, here's an unhelpful error message to frown at." PLEASE change that back so people who play on both servers can actually do their stuff on one server and then on the other without having an angry little break between. This change is seriously making me want to log in less and less...

Which is why I suggested, in the first post, syncing event start/end times with daily resets AND lengthening future events by one FULL day. The partial day at the end never made sense to me and plenty of people, like katanagirl1, have never been able to get that last day of tickets and drops.

I REALLY like SeaGtGruff's suggestion of 2:00pm EDT for everything - depending on DST. Not sure what our friends in the Pacific or across the Atlantic would think about that, but considering daim at least liked the 10:00am EDT event end time, it seems like 2:00pm would be even better. And I appreciate how that time was arrived at.

Yes, I also used to be in the dark about Enlightenment reset times being determined by when one first attained CP status. For me, it just happened to be a few minutes before the old reset time (1 AM EST) on one server, and about half an hour after the old reset time on the other server, since I'd most likely attained CP status while doing my daily crafting writs and I was always trying to get them done before reset or do them right after reset.

The new all-in-one daily reset time is working out great for me, because I play on two servers and no longer have to rush to get everything done on both servers before 1 AM EST or 2 AM EDT. I'm not sure how much I'm going to enjoy trying to get my last day of event tickets on PC NA each event. Hopefully there won't be any server maintenance scheduled to start at 4 AM ET on the last day of any more events. /fingers_crossed
