Are HA oakensoul builds better for pve than LA despite higher LA parse?

So despite LA parsing higher, a dummy doesn’t hit back or move. There’s people who can parse 120k+ yet can’t perform well in pve. For some reason I hear HA oakensoul builds are extremely survivable and easy to get trifectas with.

With LA builds, a lot of damage comes from aoes, yet many times enemies will move around in pve. So are LA builds still better?

There’s one thing that isn’t often considered in this debate. Most people with 120k on a dummy are using melee weapons. Some of them get to a boss fight and suddenly the dps isn’t as great.

I play a ranged bow build with light attack weaving everywhere I go. My dummy parse is mediocre compared to the rest of my trial team, but in practice and in many fights my parse tends to go higher because I never have to pause damage, all my light attacks and skills land no matter where we’re standing, and it’s easy enough to move back out of AOEs if needed. When everyone starts off inexperienced with the mechanics and positioning, ranged damage tends to be a lot easier to keep up. Later on as the group learns everything and stops dying to simple stuff the melee dps start getting better numbers

It’s too bad melee heavy attack builds don’t work with the sets as well as lightning

High dps parsing is more of a sport than an actual show of DPS. People use setups in parses they don’t use in content, plus not having to move at all. What is good DPS varies widely from content to content.

    Greetings,

After further review we have decided to move this thread to a category we think is more appropriate for this topic.

    Thank you for your understanding.

OP, 3 out of your last 4 discussions have been regarding HA/LA. What exactly, are you seeking?

First was about LA being better than HA. That was a very vague question where most people responded with “Easy 30% more dps on dummy”. Then I’ve experimented in pve and found out otherwise. So then I wondered, ok, maybe LA is better on dummy but not in pve. And if LA is still better in pve, then maybe it’s a lot less than 30% due to having to be within melee range. So now LA is better by 10% instead of 30% in pve. That alone makes it no longer worth it for me due to it being so marginal.

Manual automobile transmissions provide very marginal improvement over automatic, and generally only in really high end racing. And automatic transmissions are a lot easier to drive than manual. But many people find manual transmissions to be more engaging and fun. And, in really high end racing, the marginal improvements become a difference maker. HA versus LA seems to be the same way.

And I have definitely met driving enthusiasts who look down on people who drive automatic transmissions, and feel it is not "real driving" because it is not difficult enough to master. They are welcome to feel that way but I don't think car manufacturers are going to discontinue automatic transmission, or purposefully make automatic transmissions perform worse, so that manual drivers can feel that their extra effort is being properly rewarded when not score pushing on a racetrack.
