Can't sneak in restricted areas without being 'seen'

I don't know if this is considered a bug or not, but I've noticed for the past week that any time I sneak into a restricted area or home NPCs will turn like they've seen you once you get close enough behind them. It's only ever in these restricted places, and they don't actually see me since I'm usually able to move away fast enough, but it makes sneaking a pain when there's a possibility of being caught pretty much any time I try to sneak up behind an NPC that shouldn't be able to see me.
