New Flurry animation or old animation?

Personally, I miss the old Flurry animation and wish for it to return. There were other discussions of this, but I wanted to make it easier in the form of a poll over time to see just how many people either like or dislike the new animation. Whether you want to revert/go back to the original/old animation for it or keep the new animation.

New animation looks generally bad overall.

Old animation looked bad for anything that wasn't pointy.

Could use a revamp. Or just separate animations for pointy things vs club/mace/axe.

Though the new animation was startling and amusing at first, I don't even notice it anymore. Much like I didn't notice the old one after playing for awhile.

I don't think either one looks bad, but I rarely pay very close attention to weapon animations.

In general I like the new animation, but I am not in love with it.

It does look less goofy if you use maces. The old one felt like it made little sense with maces, tbh. “I am poking you repeatedly with blunt objects!”

But whatever, I don’t have that strong of feelings either way. (Same with templar jabs, but with those I like them both for different reasons.)

I can see why the old one looks bad with anything that isn't pointy, but I liked it for it's sheer violence, it looks like you want to cause harm. The new one looks more like flailing desperation, not a practised combat move.

I'd go with the old one, or a new one that allows for the violence of the first while taking into account different weapon types

around 6:40.. not too dissimilar to the new animation, but looks more controlled

edit.. again: Ok.. very similar to the new animation. Damn it, I don't know now :shrugs:

I hated the new animation so much that I changed from Duel Wield to Two Handed.

Same for jabs animation. Switch it back please. Templars use spears of light, NOT Nighthollow staves for stabbing.

    Exactly.

Like any change of something I see often, it took some getting used to, but I think it is an improvement. Still it could probably be improved further.

Personally I love the new flurry animation, as it seems more realistic, and I've been using it almost non-stop on multiple characters. Moving alongside a target to create a large open wound will cause more damage than stabbing. And it just feels like a more natural movement.

But personally I'd rather ZOS change direction on this, and were to sell different skill animations for skills instead. This way a change isn't forced on players, will be optional for the players that want the updated animation, and will make ZOS money at the same time. Everybody wins!

If developer remake new animation once more, then it will be more strange motion than current.
Just revert it. It's more safer than make more new one.

Not sure why these extremely unpopular changes have not been at least acknowledged. I doubt they will every change back.

    Sell, no.

    Reward for gameplay, yes.

Selling them would just mean all the cool animations are behind micro transactions, and all the terrible ones are for free. It would in fact act as an incentive for ZoS to make poor quality animations for basic skills.

If you must "sell" them at least put them behind purchasable content like DLC's or Chapters.

There were a ton of polls with the same overwhelmingly negative results when the flurry and jabs animations were changed on the pts. zos ignored it entirely then, I doubt they'll so much as acknowledge it now. Their stance on any negative feedback has become "Ignore! Ignore! Ignore!" and push it through.

Something to consider: If the new animation was the original and they replaced it with the old animation years later, you would have the same amount of complaints, perhaps even more considering you'd have players who prefer axes and maces perplexed and upset why they'd have to start thrusting with them instead. If you think the new animation is bad because it looks too "wild" or undisciplined, you should try spamming light attacks without a target, and see how incredibly exaggerated they are. Yet there's barely any complaints about those basic animations because you're already used to them.

I remember years back they sped up the old flurry animation as it had originally lasted over a second, and many players complained that it looked comical and weightless because of how fast they made the animation. And now since they actually reworked how flurry works (four separate hits each doing the same amount of damage each), it would make no sense whatsoever to return to the old animation. A couple years later from now, I'm pretty sure players using flurry by then will prefer the current animation and most wouldn't be happy and complain if they were to ever change it again.

As much as I preferred the old jabs and flurry animations...

    ...yeah, you're totally right.

I got used to flurry by now. I did like the jabby daggers better, but it does look strange with anything but a dagger (but then again my main is an axe-and-board Orc who evidently thinks that it pokes well. And it does.) As for templar jabs, I'd be fine if they'd just kept it as the ethereal spear of light instead of reusing a staff asset because now there's a visual disconnect between jabs and the rest of the templar kit.

I like the new one since it's comical. Makes it look like I'm hitting a big drum.

Not too happy about the reusing of animation in game to "revamp" skills we use rather than making new animation for the game to replace old animation. It would be much better if they did that (competently). The new Jabs animation is a good example of how not to do it. The new Flurry is just reusing heavy attack animation. Old flurry looked slightly better and had a satisfying sound to it.

I like the new jabs animation. Easy to see when the group is stacked in trials. Took me killing a few overland bosses to get used to it.

I kind of miss the old one, which looked like a flurry of stabbing attacks. However, a flurry of stabbing attacks didn't make a ton of sense when you were using maces / axes. This new animation works better with those, but looks much more goofy with stabbing weapons like daggers.

So... yeah. Kind of a toss up for me. It'd be nice if the flurry animation varied depending on what weapon you had in your main hand. Dagger or sword? The old one. Axe or mace? The new one. Then stabbing weapons would stab and swinging weapons would swing. Won't happen, but it'd be a happier middle ground.

Barring that, building some new, more fluid animations wouldn't hurt... but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Then it should be different depending of our weapons.

Even then it dosn't change the fact animations in this game are bad, there is no good feeling in them, there is no impact feeling. And the new animation have this problem more than the old one.

They are both bad. But the old one was a little better. It did not hang when i spamming this on target, but the new animation sometimes "sticks".

In the new one, I like the effect in the bloodthirsty morph, a bloody cloud around when you attack. But this animation....It's disgusting. It looks like my character is turning into a mentally ill warrior who does anything but not fight the enemy. And my friend even called this animation "quick cleaning with a broom of dust from the closet."

I think that it would be possible to take an example from other games, and make the animation with sharper hits (like the Bloodborne example), rather than drawing hand movements with each hit. Because of this, it looks extremely ridiculous.

I did not play build with dual wield for a long time so to be honest I do not remember how it was. My problem with the new one is the char does not appear doing anything or connecting to the foe with their dagger dagger whisking.

Old one was better. New one looks too much like a light attack.

Doesn't matter if the stabbing looked strange with maces or axes. We can run around with heavy armor and put on a costume that makes it look like we are naked with a towel so looks don't matter in that way.

The old animation just flowed better.
