Promises were made. Hopes was raised. Really makes me question why I've been playing these last 8 years.

Why would there be a bard class??? The abilities such a class gave in TES games are already covered by the Mages and Fighters Guilds in intimidation and persuasion. A bard class as exists in a pen and paper game like D&D wouldn’t fit in ESO at all. Now more options for emotes and musical instrument furnishings I’m all for!

This is not DnD. The bards are in the inns, singing and playing instruments.

We can already be TES' version of a bard, both the musician kind and the "class" type, which is just a thief archtype that uses speechcraft mostly with some illusion.
[Lie] Of course! I don't even worship Daedra!

Can I ask what you're referring to that made you hopeful there would be a bard class this time around?

Warden is like a bard... kind of. My DK rotations are like poetry if that helps.

I would've rather had a Battlemage, or Spellsword. And no they aren't the StamSorc.

Arcanist will buff you via runes. It's not a bad way to support allies.

I know lots of people really want the bard but honestly I'm not one of them. Not unless they gave it a unique spin and made it use tonal technologies or something. Just find the idea of bard a bit naff.

    This is a TES Bard:

Bards are loremasters and storytellers. They crave adventure for the wisdom and insight to be gained, and must depend on sword, shield, spell and enchantment to preserve them from the perils of their educational experiences. (TESIII character creation)

Arcanist seems to fit that description. Here is our Bard class.

Don't worry, it will come with Shivering Isles, probably.
Restoration is a perfectly valid school of magic, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise! - Spells and incantations for those with the talent to cast them!

I don't know if I could take skills involving music, so I'm not too keen on a Bard class unless they give us a way to mute the sounds, but I'm not fond of tentacles in my skills either  Tbh, I was also expecting either a bard (or a lich, or water-based class) for a new class, since meeting that bard NPC in High Isle. Though a lich or an 'aquamancer' would also make sense because there's already lich mobs and mobs who use water skills in the game.

Dnd type of bard dont exist in the tes universe
Most bard are just musician and we do see some in the bard colege in solitude.
While sound based magic exist it is rare, thuum, dwemer tonal magic and that one npc on anems with voice magic are the main exemple

There is also the bard archetype that was present in tes3 an tes4, if i remeber correctly their main stat were speechcraft and illusion wich i dont think would do well as a class in eso

The Arcanist seems more like the npc class "Warlock" in Morrowind, though instead of the bad daedra they bound themself to Hermeaus Mora.

"I'm a warlock. I have bound myself by oath and deed to the service of a Daedra lord, and in return have received gifts of knowledge and power. The Temple calls my patrons the bad Daedra, and perhaps they aren't very nice... but I guess I'm not very nice, either. If you are curious, and not afraid, I can tell you a little about the bad Daedra and Daedric summonings."
