Seriously...

What have they done to Perfect Roe?

I can spend over two hours fishing and not get even one!

This never used to be how it was.

What happened?

It must still be dropping, because people are selling it. I never seem to find any, but then I rarely fish, and when I do it isn't for hours on end, let alone half an hour. Maybe it's just bad RNG? If so, hopefully your luck will improve soon.

I average about 1 perfect row per 100 fish.

Then I would say you have luck on your side.

I have fished for 4 hours and managed to get two perfect roe.

I used to get every 40 fish like clockwork then quite suddenly my rng changed, wasnt worth my time anymore. I have been thinking of trying my luck again lately though.

    Rng.

Look when dealing with RNG the majority of times things are going to be normal. Then you have good hits and bad.

I have hit as many as 1 perfect roe in 20 fish for my best rate, my worst is 1 in 10k.

On average it still appears to be around 1%

Mine is running about 0.7%. It's so low that it's completely discouraging for anyone who wants to fish for income. I only fish for achievements, but my stats are the outcome from a full master angler run plus all dlc fishing up through high isle (I haven't done galen yet).

I guess you can sell stacks of unfileted fish if RNGod is not blessing you. Last time I checked (more than year ago!) fish prices were about same as expected value of roe from fileting it.

The words: boring, tedious, frustrating, annoying, discouraging.. spring to mind whenever the thought of fishing in eso crops up.

Fishing for Perfect Roe is a very low reward/high tedium activity and fishing in general should be more engaging, rewarding and satisfying all round.

The Perfect Roe system needs to be seriously looked at because drop rates are extremely inconsistent.

Khajiit is happy she bought over 200 once the CP changes was announced. Should have bought 1-2 thousands and made serious gold as they sold for under 10 K back them.

In over a year and a half I've only found 2. I don't spend a lot of time fishing, but I do fish, and only 2.

I gave a try to fishing a long while ago. I found it boring. I tried to remain motivated but couldn't get some blue fishes (with zero hope for perfect roe) so it started to bother me badly.
One day, I realized that all this boring time was a big loss that could have been fun time at doing something else more exciting. I definitely gave up in that very minute. No need to say, I never ever saw a perfect roe... :D

I average around 1 roe per 5000 fish - it’s rare stuff- I just buy it now.

I only fish when a new zone is available, and stop when I've caught all the rare fish. I use the food that increases chances of catching rare fish, because I want to get it over and done! So I catch the minimum number of fish required to get the achievement (factoring in the RNG of getting the rare fish...).

I would say that I get a perfect roe every 70 or 80 fish. Definitely no worse than 1 per 100 fish. And on a pretty consistent basis, I would be very disappointed if I filleted 200 fish and didn't get any.

Though that was a few months ago, haven't been fishing recently.

But for once it would appear that the RNG gods are looking favourably on me.

Yeah, given the prices nowadays it's pretty painful when furnishing recipes ask for perfect roe for making one furniture (or, even worse, chromium plating...).

The RNG is unpredictable. I was reading this thread today thinking "yes, I've also been unlucky getting perfect roe recently", then I just cleared 1 fishing hole and got 2 perfect roe from it.

My drop rate has never been more than 1 in 100 and I have gone through whole stacks without getting any. I remember a bug a long time ago where fishing would give you 2 fish every cast, which helped.

The only perfect Roe i get is from Special Crafting Award containers during Events.

I remember getting some from fishing activities, but it has been a long time

i have gotten them back to back and have even gotten 3 out of 5 fish filleted.

on the flip side i once went 664 fish without one, and yes i counted.

last week, when farming a world boss for a lead - i was filleting while waiting for it to respawn --- filleted 170 and got 2 roe

If you think there's a problem one option is to record how many fish you fillet and how many perfect roe you get to get an actual drop rate. You would need to note down every single fish you fillet, but I think you could do it in batches - 50 fish opened, 1 perfect roe etc. I don't know if different rarities of fish have different drop rates, but it might be worth recording that too just in case. Then when you've gone through a few hundred, ideally about 1000 you should have enough data to reasonably accurately estimate the current drop rate.

Otherwise it could just be normal distribution. RNG means random after all, not evenly distributed. Getting 2 in a row then none for several hundred fish would be as likely as getting 1 on every 200th fish.

I never fish in ESO, but I've noticed similar things with other drop rates. Last week I spent a few nights going around Craglorn gathering whatever I came across, hoping for nirncrux. On one night I got none at all, on the next night I got 2 from one node and another one shortly after, and on the 3rd night I got none again, even though I harvested a similar number of nodes each night. I didn't actually do the maths but I'm fairly sure that fits within the normal distribution given how rare nirncrux is.

On PC you can use 'Votan's Fish Fillet' addon to keep track.

Currently I am at 0.6% after filleting around 9k fish.

As someone who does not fish I can tell you the drop rate has gone down. I usually just buy mine at the vendors when I need one or two. Prior to the last few months I could find them easily at almost any major guild trader hub and reasonably priced 10 to 11 k on PS4. The last ferw months they are hard to find at a vendor and 20 to 25k each. I hadn't really thought about that until seeing this post but that's probably why the decrease in finding them at a vendor and increase in price.

People buy them, xp potions has been popular during the long midwinter festival.
AvA also reduce the number of people who fish.

On PC-EU prices is around 60K and its not much there, people selling 1 or 2, a few sell 10-20.

I would never fish just to farm for perfect roe, even when the drop rate was higher than it seems to be now.

I'm just bowled over by fishing for over two hours (on more than once occasion) and not getting a single one.

Years ago, when I started on console, it seemed like it was almost 1 roe in 50 fish. Those days are gone.

Here's my other question... when you fillet the fish, should meticulous disassembly be slotted? Does this have any affect? I had it slotted anyway and nope.

Oh well, just thought I'd make my observations. I'm only fishing for the DLC achievements, and I don't mind it. Eat the right food, slot angler's instinct and reel technique... listen to some music, it's quite relaxing.
