It only takes a few seconds to change characters. Surely we can wait that long to chat.

As far as friends getting upset by missed whispers, they should realize by now that players do change characters from time to time and they may miss a whisper. If they don't get a reply they can just ask "Did you get my message where I said this and that?" and repeat it if they didn't.

Yeah, why can't the chat box stay during area loading screens and while relogging? Why can't you chat while you wait?

The technical reason is that the LUA UI framework in unloaded or partially loaded at that point. It would be a significant rework to change that, so probably not going to happen.

On PC if a player tries to send a message to someone that is offline they get a system message that the account cannot be found and the message doesn't go through. This doesn't happen on console?

    It does on xbox

Cause that's how logging off and back onto a server works.

No they can't save chat logs. Can you imagine the storage, even just chat logs for a game like this for the last 8 years if every message has been saved? You'd probably be reaching Peta level of storage.

There have been claims over the years that ZOS does keep chat logs and reviews them for disciplinary purposes. But they might only be indexed by sender.

In any case, pChat/rChat stores the data client side and it works fine. There's no technical barrier to doing it in the base game.

I agree as I have an old laptop that takes ages to log on and off between characters. When there is an interesting guild chat or two going on I can't switch characters because you miss all the details. Only a few of the people are Friends. You wouldn't want to make friends of all 400 people in each guild, and they just chat not message me.

Add-ons aren't possible due to the flaky laptop. Some way to access recent guild chat would be good, like on discord.

I using Rchat and stored history data have 235kb (or about 300) if I remember correctly and I have set maximum history for chat. The file have over 6900 lines of code including all text from game chat.
And when we take a look into savedvariables folder, game itself without addons makes two or three files there.
So, on xbox and PS you downloading game to ssd/hdd right? So I dont see any problem to have one more file with chat history on any platform. So devs can add this function to base game.

GW2 saves your chats between character switches.

The fact that addons can store chat history locally (no server load) suggests that it could be possible, even if the UI changes when a character logs out.

It's fascinating how a simple suggestion to improve the text chat can lead to so many misunderstandings and different opinions.

We had some nice quality of life improvements over the last few years. PC players might not care about things like armory stations and ability timers, but for a lot of console players they are a great addition to the game.

The text chat on playstation is still very rudimentary and sometimes this can be a problem. A few easy upgrades would be very welcomed by a lot of players, and i am sure this would not require significant time and resources.

Yes the game has way bigger fish to fry, and i wish the responsible people would make them their top priority. But i am afraid that's not going to happen anytime soon.

I don't know who is working on the quality of life changes, but i am grateful that they do what they do. And i am sure they have way more fun at work than the people responsible for performance improvements and bugfixes (if they even exist...). So maybe it's possible to give them some inspiration.
