But Lagertha is carrying a sword!

And great portrayal of her with your character!

Though swords were prestigious too, but much more expensive (and less versatile), so it was only a thing for wealthier people and nobility (most others used axes or even more affordable spears). When someone was to be burried with their sword, it was even common to make it unuseable first by bending it, to avoid graverobbery.

Interesting to see so many Dragonknight votes. It does seem to have some Barbarian vibes with the ability to leap to an enemy and grow spiked armor. I can understand it as a nod to Skyrim's Nords and Dragonborn, with the claws, talons and fiery breath.

However I don't see much similarity between Dragonknight and historical Vikings. I have not heard any accounts of Vikings using whips in battle (although to be fair these artifacts would not have survived to present day). The whole wings/claws theme goes well with the fantasy horned helmets and glowing fire weapons, but has little basis in Norse reality or mythology.

In my opinion, the DK class borrows more from eastern cultures. It is described as an Akaviri warrior, which suggests their weapons, armor and martial arts may be based on Japan and China. Not entirely of course, but significantly.

I could imagine claws and spikes as a nod to the wild animals like wolves and ravens that are very present in Norse mythology (as well as the wereanimals that are also known in Scandinavian folklore). The wings - well, some creatures exist in the myths that are often called "dragons" today, but they were much more serpent-like, so that's of course not so accurate. Or maybe they could be reinterpreted as bat wings? Although I'm not sure at the moment what folklore says about bats (I can't remember them being mentioned in bigger myths, but they can very well be mentioned in folklore, I think).

If Viking comes from the old word for Fjord "Vik", then StamDen. A Fjord: sea, then trees, then rock, then snow. 2 points for Warden, 1 point for DK.

    Viking means to raid.

It's also a rather incorrect name to use, because of that. Viking is something you do, and was just a small part of their culture. The correct name is Norse.

Never understood why someone would try make a Norse character in Elder Scrolls game over a Nord. The vision people have of a Norse is often wrong any way and heavily influenced by pop culture.

You can make any class fit a Nord or Norse-ish character with just a bit of knowledge and creativity. Because there's a lot of gods and beings in Norse mythology one can make a character devoted to, not just Thor and whatnot.

On their defense theres a maul with electricity thats a pro crafter reward.

Btw, make sure you pick up the Wolf of Solitude sword style from the Greymoor main quest.

I haven't found a viking axe style I love. The "Nord" styles are all too large and blocky IMO. Bloodforged is slightly better, but still has an unwanted spike on the back. The Dark Elf 1 is one of the better options, but strangely angled. Ancestral Nord and Greymoor both look ridiculous. Skaal Explorer and Blackreach Vanguard are both interesting looking, but clearly fantasy in their shape and construction (does the haft go into the head? or is it just stuck on?). Outlaw Axe 1 has more realistic proportions (although not the best styling), but again the construction makes no sense unless they are using magic glue. Valorous Sovngarde has a really nice shape, but it's crown crate only and has a couple of weird features.

If anyone is aware of a better Viking axe style please share.

And if you want a comic book style Mjolnir then the Ancestral Nord hammer is pretty solid.

Wardens are more druid-like, but still fit pretty well, especially if you use Cleave instead of the main Warden spammable.

Honestly Breton Axe 1 is pretty good. I tried it out with my viking guys and it looks like a simple beefier bearded axe. And I use the solitude sword when I want a pretty viking sword, love that thing

Same, I hate dive. Personally, I use flurry. It does similar damage and feels better to use.

I just flurry didn't have a weird animation glitch to it. It's better than stabbing like the old one but still.
