BLOCK IS STILL BROKEN

Try it yourself:

Z (sheathe weapon) -> LMB (light attack) -> ` (weapon swap, not sure that's the default)

You might have to try it a couple times to get the timing right, but it broke block before the patch, and it still does.

BTW, picking a chest or safebox (but not a door) "fixes" it.

bar swapping seems to fix it as well, not sure if that's new though.

    That's new now.

But can confirm both (block bug still ingame + fixing it with bar swap now).

    Still makes me sad :dizzy:

That seems to be new with the patch. Doesn't help much when you missed a block and got oneshot.

Can confirm. Mount, la + quick bar swap disables block. Another bar swap fixes it at least for me so it possibly is not that tragic. But I guess if it happens to tank at wrong time it can still cause wipes.

Can confirm barswap will fix it. Atleast playable in content for anyone except Oakensoul enjoyers.

Hopefully the block bug won't trigger from other stuff aswell - while being in fight as it seemed to do before todays patch...

With bar swap being able to fix it this would be kind of okay for now but it is still a huge disappointment to be honest.

Well they should be ok. Since they cant bar swap they would not get it from swapping bars ;)

It gets even weirder. If I do the sheathe->light->swap twice in a row (so on different bars), then I have to weapon swap twice to clear it. I did a longer sequence and had to weapon swap NINE TIMES to get block working again.

Wow - I highly doubt whats stated in the patch notes  "putting it back into its pre-Update 36 state"

Yah, that's my thought. There's no way this was a simple revert.

    Can totally confirm this.

Not hard to do. And it has the effect @TooWeak2Live described. This is SUPER WEIRD - wtf ZOS :dizzy:

Should ban boss monsters for exploiting. As they know block isn't working, yet they are still using their powerful attacks which need to be blocked. Clear exploit, should result in a permanent ban!

This at least doesn't sound like something that's likely to happen in the middle of a fight. I mean how often do I sheath, LA without casting an ability after, and then barswap. Still, the root of this problem needs figuring out.

Yeah, right. But it looked like other things did trigger the block bug aswell previously...

It doesn't have to happen in the middle of a fight, you can unknowingly do it beforehand and only find out when you try to block a heavy attack from a boss and it doesn't work. It happened to me recently when I was fighting a wb, but I have no idea if it bugged out during the fight or if I entered it already bugged.

Yeah for sure. Any block bug is a huge issue. I'm just so accustomed to checking if I can block before I pull at this point tho that at least it's something I can work around.

LA from sheathe is very common. And if you're used to swap cancelling... well...

A different question here: Did bar swapping always automatically unsheath weapons?

I can' tell. But it surely does now. Anyone knows for sure?

Supposedly, if you're on PC, there is an add-on that fixes the block bug. I have not tried it, so I can't speak from having first hand experience with the fix.

Seems more than a bit ironic that an add on creator can fix the block bug but ZOS can't figure it out though, that's for sure.

Edit: ya, just looked it up on Minion. It's called "no more block bug". It doesn't completely cure block bug, but does prevent the main way people get stuck with the block bug.

You know what I wonder? They said they reverted this all to pre-U36...

Was this version of the block bug always in the game and we just never noticed?

Granted, we have little reason to cancel a barswap animation with unsheathing in actual content - most people already have the weapons out. And it seems that if it's cleared on barswap... well in content you're swapping bars, so you wouldn't have noticed it persisting. The only time we'd have seen it in the middle of a fight would be if we get interrupted in a barswap animation and then stay on that bar.

I kinda wish we could just check a pre-U36 build and see if this was always here and we just had no reason to notice it before.

tbh if this fixes itself on barswap, then that sounds like an improvement to me. The first block bug was really bad for me since I tend to bash a lot in combat so I was always losing block. The second didn't het me too bad since I've been clapped too many times in the middle of a barswap that I'm a lot more cautious about when I swap, but I know a lot of my DPS friends got hit with that one bad. Now if this version it the second but fixable without leaving the instance, that's honestly a huge improvement. At least then if someone bugs themself out on one bar because they have a barswappy setup, then they're going to barswap again and maybe not even notice they're bugged unless a meteor comes in at that exact moment.

This I can say yes. Technically... I remember if I barswapped from sheathed before, the first wouldn't, but the second and onward would.

Not to be THAT PERSON but.... they almost certainly already know.

Guys, they rolled back a fix.

That fix, while it caused new problems, it did in fact fix the original problem it set out to fix, which seems to be essentially what we are back to.

I'd assume it's working.... not as intended, but at least as expected.

Sounds like it's broken in a different way though. And why tell us 2 weeks ago a fix is being tested for it to just be a rollback?

I'm trying to be nice lately, but these wounds are self inflicted
