Relocate NA server

The entire Asian community struggles with high ping, and there seems to be no headway into making an Asian server to help that. The NA server could at least relocate to the west coast in an effort to make the reach of both servers worldwide. Currently the NA sever is in Texas and people are able to play on EU and NA servers interchangeably while Asian regions are on 250+ ping for both servers. There is a large community being ignored and it hurts to know that Zos doesn’t care.

Not sure moving the server would help as you would still have to contend with the distance across the Pacific.

yes but the ping will be 180 instead of 250 because west coast america is significantly closer to Australia than texas

Would be better to ask for a Asia server no? What you propose while beneficial to you will have the opposite effect on a lot of people who play is places like Brazil for example where ping would go from 200 to 250.

And yet, a west coast server would still be closer to Brazil than to Australia.

The disadvantages of an Asia server were discussed in a recent thread. It includes diluting the population and losing friends that people have made on the NA server.

Anyway. To OP: Would a slightly shorter distance actually make a difference? From Texas to California, it would shave maybe 1000 miles off? I know nothing about what affects ping (just that it sucks).

As an actual resident of North America on the East Coast my ping is already 90-110; I don't want an even larger ping in my home region so that's a solid no from me on that. Texas is centrally located for the most part which is the better position for in region players than West Coast.

Would be about 7,000 miles instead of 8,000. I don't know for certain but I think the number of hops would also make a difference in ping?
I agree with what was said above, would be better to have a third server. Not sure how feasible that is at this point though because they would need a way to migrate accounts from two databases onto one or force a complete restart. For the NA server it would also probably reduce population in non peak hours but might still be worth the effort.

Found this site and it seems to support that more than just distance is involved.
