Does high server ping limit DPS ?

I'm beginning to think that high server ping limits my DPS. It's either that, or I have a great deal to learn about creating high DPS. My server ping is typically 400 (my username is a little clue, there), and it certainly makes some things difficult, e.g. weaving combinations, and recently I've been wondering if it also limits my DPS. Can high ping limit DPS ?

Yes, there will be lag between what you input and the results. I don't how much, if any of the combat calculations are client side. I would imagine not much.

Then again, it will mostly effect Animation Canceling, as you can only fire a skill every second. There are some interesting builds in the Skill Curve thread that use lightening heavy attacks that should be somewhat immune to high pings. Would be worth a test.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

    Yes, it 100% does.

As someone in Aus who has 300+ ping during the best of times (PCEU), my friends (both local and in EU) and I have tested the exact same builds both on our ping and on EU local ping and the dps drop is drastic between the 2, even though it's the exact same.

My parses cap out at about 80kdps, meanwhile someone of the same skill level over in EU running my exact build will likely easily hit a 100k+ parse.

My ping has always been between 250 and 400, ive recognised or got used to the fact that my skills will have a 3 second delay(im down in nz). And now to top it all off, my internet option now is wifi😆. Its all downhill from here 😆

It does, but from my experience i can say that everything below 250 is still manageable. But 400 will be painful experience indeed.

High ping will limit your absolute max DPS output, but it doesn’t have a major influence in my experience (at least on the dummy). Tbf, my ping usually hovers at 300-350 so its not quite 400+, but I can still hit very good numbers on the dummy.

Granted, if I try to parse during prime time my DPS will drop by about 5k and certain skills like Boneyard, Rune, Eruption, etc will sometimes fail to cast.

If the high ping does regularly cause issues when casting abilities, I would highly recommend a HA build. Decent DPS (both on the dummy and in content) is still fairly easily obtainable running a HA build.

I know a few players who have completed if not every (then all but the odd one) end game trifecta, trial/dungeon HM etc on >350ping.
I am in awe of them, but the ones I have talked to say mechanics with the high ping is a greater problem than dps.

I can not get my dps very high (>80K on the dummy) but I just cant motivate myself to dedicate the time to get it higher when the sticking point is still more to do with lag and mechanics.

I went to tanking to give myself a bit more leeway with performance but even then places like vHof 2nd boss and dodging Gryphon LA and many others in trials is almost impossible to reliably complete for no-death trifectas etc on >300ms. I know of some oceanic tanks who have done so but often they are OT in these fights.

This was a while ago so maybe there are more now who can manage it.

For pvp it definitely makes a huge difference. There are players in the mid 200's who perform at a high level but I dont know of many above that who dont have to build to manage the extra lag. Regular spammables like jabs and dizzy just cant be used in high lag and LA intensive classes like Nightblade usually are out also.

Obviously you'll have a harder time with higher ping digits but most endgame players I've encountered were already at the 200+ space. Still remember going for IR when internet in my country was getting a stroke, when you're just loosing control of a character for like 3-5 seconds and just pray to Akatosh that you shielded/blocked in time and iceheart went off while you're unable to do anything. Basically you can't make a single mistake out-of and in-lag situation playing like that, can be stressful.

Even unstable ping is manageable but if you're pretty stable in one particular range it's a matter of getting used to it, my best out of content parses were always on NA PTS with double my server ping at the time (around 350-400). You time light attacks and abilities differently but in the end it's not putting any hard limits.

While I would say yes I don't know how much it would differ. I had an Aussie guild mate (I'm in Europe running 500Mbps fiber optic) who could barely parse something like 60k. I connected to his pc remotely via Parsec so I had an input latency of 400ms, and managed to get 85k instantly on a parse, without him having all maxed out gear nor champion points.

Latency would 100% affect weaving but right now weaving does't really matter too much as it's like 8% of your damage.

As for real content 100% it makes a huge difference as you're going to be laying dead most of the time, any DPS is higher than no DPS.
