Canceling a trader bid.

@ZOS_GinaBruno I can't believe there is no way for someone to change or cancel a bid on a trader. If you make a typo your whole guild is screwed and you can lose everything you've saved for 8 years. How is this a thing? This is horrible. Please fix this. Also, please for the love of Sheo, help me as my guild is about to lose all our money due to an accidental extra 0.

I have asked myself this question several times: why do I not see an opportunity to withdraw the application? In addition to my guild, I'm overseeing the development of a young allied guild and I'm going to give its head the opportunity to make mistakes if they're not too critical. I would like to be able to stop too critical distortions in order to protect bank savings. The trust of players who invest their gold should be protected by a mechanism for canceling and
    changing bets.

if i remember correctly they stopped you from being able to do this because some guilds would bid on a spot and win and then cancel it so another of their guilds could get that spot cheaper --- i could be wrong though

They could set a cutoff time for canceling so people wouldn't get screwed by a typo and people couldn't pull that stuff.

Thats so rough. 1 zero is a whollllllllle lota extra gold... even 100k to 1mil, but 1mil to 10mil is brutal, if its in the 10mil to 100mil range the loses are astronomical. Im very sorry this happened to you, i truly feel bad for you, especially after hearing the ticket response.

Out of curriosity, if you dont mind sharing, how big was the loss?

Can you ask for some of the gold back? I know that there have been precedents for the return of gold on other issues, try it. And yet, what amount was there, do not hesitate to admit. I remember I lost about 20kk myself, but it was a conscious waste. Are you on a European server? If so, then most likely I am familiar with your guild, for many years the names are remembered.Write to me in private messages if you and I have not been at enmity, maybe I can help you

@ZOS_GinaBruno Please convey the wish that in the guild settings you can set a limit on the maximum amount of the bet, if it is not possible to set the cancellation of the bet or perhaps come up with a longer elegant solution... money is serious, even if it is gaming, the economy and the well-being of the participants are built on it - an important and fundomental basis for a pleasant leisure in the world of the Elder Scrolls. Thank you ^_^)/

some guilds bid up to 25 mil or more on a trader, i can imagine if it was a 25 or 50 mil bid and instead went to 250 or 500mil i'd be upset too.

For real. The amount we're about to lose is soul crushing. I have no idea what to do.

I don't know how this works but are you able to remove all the gold from your guild bank before it pays for the trader? Or was the gold already taken out?

Gold gets withdrawn as soon as you place the bid.

That wasn’t done by canceling a bid. The bids are processed at flip and then are vacated so you can place bids for the following week immediately afterwards. They don’t continue to exist after flip, so they couldn’t have been there to cancel once the trader was won.

Canceling a bid before flip would have resulted in the guild not being able to win that trader and therefore could not be exploited like that.

I used to work for a company that provided software for businesses to pay their employees with. In this case, the company was trying to give a 1099 employee (ie no taxes pai by the employer) a $200 reimbursement. The employer typed in 200 (forgot to put the period) and then 00 and ignored the two extra double checks and did not realize that he sent the former employee (who left on bad terms) an extra $19,800 until he saw it coming out of his bank account, at which point it was too late, because that meant that the former employee already had the money and the payroll company was just trying to get reimbursed.
I have found that story to have a true life principle that almost everyone needs to learn from. The moment you just get in the habit of doing something, you risk causing problems.
I wish you luck. Most of all, I hope you learn from this and never repeat the mistake.

Oh man... this is my biggest fear when placing bids every week. Fortunately (I guess), there are few times where we keep enough in the bank for this to be an issue. I still find it completely stupid that there isn't a way to cancel a bid, especially when no advantage would be able to be gained by it.

Yeah, I'm not sure I understand why it's so locked down. Bids close 10 minutes prior to trader flip anyway, which I assume gives the servers plenty of time to run their calculations on who won and lost by the time actual flip occurs at top of the hour. Why not let GMs have free range to either decrease a bid or cancel a bid and move it to a new trader entirely? So long as everything is halted by the game anyway at the 10-minute closing, what does it matter?

I think what you might be remembering are "ghost guilds". Back before multi-bidding was introduced, many of the big boy capital trading guilds would make ghost guilds - guilds with enough alts in them to bid on a trader but never intended to actually be a real, functioning guild - and use, I presume, excess dues/money raised to bid on a second trader as a back-up. If their main, say, Mournhold bid won for their real guild and the ghost guild also won their back-up, then they would either sell off that second spot to a capital guild who had lost their one bid OR would sell that spot to another guild who had lost their bid, to make their money back and, I assume in the case of a non-friend/non-allied guild, a profit. Then after the 5 minute freeze post-flip, once traders were opened to place new bids for the week or hire for 10k if no guild had won them, the selling guild would collect the money from the buying guild, would then disband/dissolve that ghost guild, which then opened that trader up for the buyer to quickly hire for 10k.

This went on for years and was most rampant on PS4 NA. You could literally watch these exchanges go down in real-time, see a ghost guild with zero things to sell at a trader, then re-visit that same trader 10 minutes later and suddenly it's one of those real guild names you recognize with loads to sell. Back then, you had only one bid you could place as a guild and you lived or died that week by that one bid. Unless, of course, you got involved in the ghost guild game and either made one yourself or bent the knee to pay someone if your guild lost. A good handful of us saw how manipulative and shady it was and lived honestly - if my bid lost and my scouting team could find no open traders for us to hire for 10k in some far-flung area or Outlaws Refuge, so be it, we supported each other in our "in-house" guild store for a week and tried again harder next time.

The multi-bidding update changed that landscape. You hardly see any ghost guilds now because it's just 100% waste of money - you can't disband the guild while it actively holds a trader. And now guilds can place up to 10 bids so if your highest bid loses, you potentially have 9 other chances to still win a trader. It made the ghost guild shell game both unneeded and completely non-profitable.
