confused about multiple accounts

Hello all, many thanks in advance.

I am confused about how multiple accounts work, and I am hoping someone can walk me through this process, as our family is hoping to add another account (at least one).

Here is the current situation: I have ESO through a Steam account. This is currently my only personal account; it is linked to my account here on this website, as is my Twitch account.

My kid also has ESO through his Steam account. This is currently the only other ESO account in the family. He is the only user of that Steam account and generally the only one who plays on that account (although if he asks me, sometimes I log in to get his daily rewards when he is busy with school assignments). I gifted the ESO account (and some of the chapters) to him through my Steam account as a gift to his.

TL; dr: currently we have one family household, two Steam accounts, two ESO accounts. (Nobody else in our family plays ESO.) He is not signed up on the forum or elderscrollsonline.com in general, and does not have a Twitch account (part of our family gaming safety rules for the kids). Also, we have one main family gaming computer and we all take turns using it (Including other family members who play non-Bethesda games), so both accounts are played on the same computer.

Kiddo has decided that he would like to move away from using Steam. I think I've actually asked about this before on the forum, but we put a pin in it at the time because the advice seemed to vary wildly, and we could not decide how to move forward. However, I think we're ready to make the change now if possible.

One thing we were told in the past is that if we purchased another account on the Elder Scrolls website (i.e., not through Steam) that once that account was downloaded, he would be able to log in to his current ESO account using the login and password from his Steam ESO account. (However, other people told us that would not work, hence some of the confusion.) That would be his preference, but if that's not possible, he would still like to start over a with a brand new non-Steam account.

Additionally, if I wanted to also buy a second non-Steam account just for myself, is there a way to do that through this website without having to log in and out every time? I.e., my current elderscrolls.com login is linked to my Steam ESO account; is there a way to link multiple ESO accounts to my Amapola76 account, or will I need multiple elderscrolls.com accounts as well?

I'm not really sure I'm even explaining this correctly... I have seen many people over the years on the forums who have said that they own a few different ESO accounts so they can have more alts, so I know there must be a way to do it, I just haven't been able to work out the logistics.

Also, it should go without saying, but we are trying to work out the logistics while staying within the terms of service. I think we are well within safe bounds, as people talk all the time about having multiple accounts, but if there's any advice given or options we contemplate that seem to be border-line, then I would greatly appreciate a heads-up about that, as we want to be sure we are following the rules in good faith.

First don't unlink steam accounts from eso, to not lose anything purchased through there.

It is enough to get base game from official site, or for example upgrade to Collection CE if missing something. (Would suspect there will be Black Friday sale for PC too).

May have to go to account name and password recovery - link is for Stadia but there is about account recovery and password with links:
    https://help.elderscrollsonline.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/57183/~/stadia-sunsetting---the-elder-scrolls-online

Even download is not necessary - in steam folder there is Proper Bethesda.net_Launcher -> ...\Steam\steamapps\common\Zenimax Online\Launcher for log-in with name and password.

(There can be multiple accounts registered for same PC\IP address, but better have only one at a time in-game to not be flagged for perma-ban.)

    Thanks! This definitely helps.

I guess I'm still not clear on the first steps. Like, right now I'm logged in on elderscrollsonline.com as Amapola76. If I go to my account, it shows that I'm linked to my corresponding Steam account. It also shows my purchases through this website. (I've been a bit disgruntled with Steam, too, so currently my ESO+, as well as the High Isle upgrade, for example, were purchased through this website rather than through Steam, even though I've still been playing through Steam.)

So... even before we get to the steps about downloading or opening the launcher... if I want to make a new base game account purchase, do I need to log out as Amapola76 and create a new user account on elderscrollsonline.com, and then purchase the base game? Or can I have multiple accounts that are all set up under Amapola76 here? This is the main thing I'm not getting.

Every Account is with own separate registration/e-mail.

When you look at your account page at the right part you have Image/version of ESO you have and below there should be download button - so for your account it may not be necessary to purchase another version. And if at account page you can log in with eso credentials (not log in with Steam) you can just log in with them to that launcher mentioned in my previous post - skipping Steam.

For your child, his account exists also; he can log-in by clicking on Steam logo on the page (and to be his Steam account) https://account.elderscrollsonline.com/ , but will have to go through account recovery(again link in previous post) to get proper password from Customer Support as Steam doesn't need password. There is information required to fill, don't stress - even if it is not possible to fill all proper in details there is space to write additional information - "Moving from steam ......."
On https://account.elderscrollsonline.com/ has to be logged On HIS Own Account (even through, Steam) to purchase copy of the game.

Edit: Yes you have to log out from your account for him to log-in in his (or use another browser).

I don't know how you do it on PC, but on Xbox you have to open a new Microsoft account, then add it to your Xbox "family". Then you just switch between the two accounts on the main ESO screen.

So I have two accounts both have entirely different @ names.

If you are looking to have a second account so you have access to more characters/alts you need to create a second account with a different user name and buy whatever version you wish for that account,

For example my second account was my attempt to get my husband playing, that failed, so now I use that account for extra storage, extra trader selling slots etc etc

The second account does not have ESO+ and has very little dlc content available, you need to consider how much you want to spend accessing content on your new account when choosing which version of the game you buy. 💕
    When people say to me........
"You're going to regret that in the morning"
I sleep until midday cos I'm a problem solver!

Thanks all! I think we got it to work. It looks like kiddo is now able to access his ESO account through the launcher rather than through Steam, without having to purchase anything else, and all his previous purchased DLC, etc., seem to be there.

It's a little wonky... like even switching between EU and NA you have to re-sign in, and it requires sending a code to his email address every fracking time, but it's better than nothing I guess.

@ghost_bg_ESO you can absolutely have multiple accounts going on the same IP address, so long as you're not botting. Families and roommates that play together using the same router are ultimately using the same web side IP, at least on PC.

I have 10 Accounts. (So I can have a Guild Bank) Each has a unique login. I log out on one account, and log into another as needed. No need to download anything else. Unless you want a client in another machine so you and your son can play at the same time.

As far as Steam, once you are entangled with them, you have stay that way. Fortunately, the only Steam thing you need is to be logged into them. As you have found out, you can buy content on the main platform.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.
