Thoughts on Galen (potential spoilers)

Ok... some positivity.

I think the devs have really outdone themselves with Galen. It's just a beautiful zone.

I watched a YouTube review of the PTS before release and it was said that Galen is very aesthetically similar to High Isle. I understand this, but I have to disagree. High Isle did not have these huge dense forests that Galen has.

I would say it's pretty much like Western Skyrim and The Reach. I would have loved a full zone ofThe Reach, just as I think a full zone of these beautiful lush forests would be terrific. I am one of the people who loved Western Skyrim and I loved High Isle, but IMO Galen is so much better. I imagine that if ESO was released today, Valenwood would perhaps be pretty similar to this.

Yes, it was a tough release and I am still occasionally crashing, but credit where credit is due. The storyline, the music, the views of Galen from those very high places. For me... just perfect.

Whilst I did not care for the story, the zone itself is gorgeous and the music is lovely too.

It does look very nice. I only wish console players could get a mini map. Because of some of the foliage and small narrow pathways in the one delve it is easy to get turned around. Found myself stopping to pull up my map a lot more because of this. If I could get my wish the mini map would also be like an emote, we could add to the wheel to make it easier to enable and disable.

Also really wish we could zoom in and out better too on the map. Funny enough it has been worse at least on the PS5 since the release of the enhanced console release then before the release.

    Stay safe :)

What is it about the story you didn't like?

I admit, I am not a huge fan of the whole Druid storyline. I don't mind it, just not a favourite. Also, I'm not done yet.

I started on console... played for around three and a half year before moving to PC.

I would be completely lost without a mini map - I feel for you.

I'm surprised that this has still not been (offically) introduced into the game. It's a basic necessity really.

I really enjoyed talking to Frii. That was the high point for me. I think they got the character just right. It's nice to see some actual character development.

I was amused by ESO's take on Druids with all their squabbling circles. I wonder where they got that idea from :D

The story was OK, if a bit lightweight. But nothing really poked me in the eye this year, which was a pleasant change.

Having just finished the story and all but two side quests, I gotta say, I feel like they delivered on these stories. And honestly, I don’t feel like it’s writing is any worse than some of the fan favorites. Not to say it’s perfect, but the druid arc was really enjoyable. My only gripe is they didn’t give us closure on the peace talks. Next time I hope.

And totally agree, Galen is an absolute gem when it comes to landscapes. There’s so much detail packed into the little island. Glimmertarn is one of my favorite locales.
