Do them if you need them, destroy them if you don't. I've come to realize that surveys are for newer players, they aren't and shouldn't be reliable income for late-game players.

I really doubt that. Surveys are for basic resorce farming that can be refined into gold mats.
The refined mats i do sell, i dont need them but gold is another matter.

You haven't gotten to the point of being able to be one of the people who buys the gold mats, there's a threshold you've yet to pass from being one who grinds to sell the goods and the patron who utilizes the goods.

With constant meta shifts I end up getting my mats to outfit all my toons with their gear through a combination of surveys and purchasing the mats when I see a good deal. I could make one set of two sets of each and swap gear around but with 9 different DPS where I play 4 of them regularly in trials and can go from one to another i succession I don’t necessarily have the time to switch. Yes that means I’ve got currently 5 sets of pillar and working on a 6th, 4 of them have gold jewelry. Those are the hardest mats to get and where I end up spending the most gold.

As for surveys I pretty much have to locations of all but a few memorized and there are some the I do skip because they are inconvenient to pick up, but I still make time for those after I pick up 5-6 and make it worth my while. I know how far to run and return to make each respawn as well, it would be nice if they respawned immediately though or at least respawned if you look at the survey map itself. That would save a lot of time and energy.

I do one or two zones worth a day. Less daunting of project.
Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

It would definitely be nice if when you had multiple copies of the same survey you didn't have to run some distance away to have the node reset, especially if you had 20+ copies to do. I'm not sure how else you could do it though. Best practice I've found is to just do them as you get them so they don't pile up.

In my opinion, only the alternative of first suggestion would make sense (multiplicative). Soul Gems and Lockpicks are far more fitting to the "consumables" category and passive of going to the Crafting Bag than Survey Reports.

i have no problem with surveys. the fact that you can run away from an area and make them respawn is fine with me.

but i think what would solve the problem instantly is to make them tradable. that way, if you have some massive stack, then go sell them. saves you from digging them up and complaining about how much of a pain it is to dig them up

Surveys are meant to be done when you get them. If you aren't and are letting them stack up then you are creating your own problem.

Take a page out of SWTOR. Get a menu where you see the surveys and your companions you aren't using. You can then select X number of surveys and assign a companion to go collect them. Based on Zone, type, number etc determines how long it takes them.
Having Ember collecting rune stones makes sense 😺
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.
