I'm an endgamer, and like most of my kind, I'm prone to complaining endlessly about the game to some extent or another. But when it comes to endgamers, the only reason we put so much time and effort into the combat and content is simply because we really do enjoy it that much. It honestly is that much fun for us. I love the dynamic rotaions that require adjustment boss to boss, mechanic to mechanic. I love the fast paced reactive and preemptive actions necessary for PvP. It's an incredibly engaging experience.

Recently however, I've taken a bit of a break from the endgame. I've been doing more questing this patch than I probably have in the last two years. Taking in the less strenous aspects of the game. And it's been quite catarthic.

The reason I started playing ESO was because I love the lore of the Elder Scrolls. I'm a lore nerd. Have been one since I first played Daggerfall back in 1998. When I got to ESO, I went through every quest, every lore book, taking screenshots of dialogue and committing it all to memory. I remember when I got to Elden Root and spoke to Girnalin for the first time. I was blown away by that hidden gem of esoteric lore! Hats off to whoever wrote that, by the way. I remember reading Nerevar the Captain at the end of the Clockwork City DLC: the feelings of a culminated story, and the odd sense of vindication. It inspired me with a rush of emotions I hadn't felt in since 2003's Morrowind.

Somewhere along my journey, in the between waiting of DLCs I imagine, I started chasing trials and dungeons. I started chasing trifectas. I have every PvE trifecta now save for Swashbuckler Supreme. I'll get that too eventually...hopefully. But now, I find myself slipping back to my roots. Back to the wellspring of lore that's hidden all over in inconspicuous people and places.

And I found myself, in game, standing in High Isle, on a hill surrounded by sunflowers. And in a moment of inspirtion, I was reminded of the Colovian Highlands. Particularly of another hill, where remarkable women found remarkable things. Whether it was babe or a gem or both.

Anyways, I wrote this prose out of inspiration and gratitude towards ZOS. All the best in your future content. I'm rooting for you.

A Shepherdess on a Golden Hill

And I saw thee.
A red star bathing in the rime of moonlight.
And thine eyes were of want and wonder and will.
Of shall and now and must.

And like fire, thou spread over Starry-Heart;
Devouring, Destroying and Mastering all that stood in thy path.
Until it was neither new nor old;
But an occurrence that was both then and then to come.

The pulse of the world spurning thee on;
In thy blood and in thy dreams;
Whispering to thee in scaled-maned tongues;
Power for the sake of power.
And I surmise a Dragon's Heart is given to Perchance.

Is that why thou looks to the east?
In anticipation of a rising Dawn long gone?
Or of Snake-Wraiths to come sing prophecies of Lasts and Firsts?
Or the murk arms of chilled First Night;
Who gave thee passage secure through royal seas beyond mortal skies?

Tell me!
What madness found thee in the passing of the Twilight?

Anon anon anon Auri-El, Lord of Mundex Arena!
Why hast thou forsaken me?
I see thy golden threads of duration;
Spooled from thine breath to be woven in one, red lineage.

This is the tapestry thou have spun from me.
So let this music be heard;
Across distant stars and all bending lights.

Thou art Cyrodiil Come.

Thanks for making ESO, all my love. <3
