I've been using companions since they came out and I'd like to make them more mine. I'm tired of seeing many and I mean many other companions that are the same as mine. I'd like to be able to apply polymorphs, helms and hats to them. I can already customize what they wear and ride otherwise. It isn't as if they are important NPCs in the world that others will be confused by. They are my companions. Let me make them look the way I want through the things I've earned in game. Please consider this a feature request.

I never gave it really a lot of thought until the Halloween event, where i was running around as my skeletal robed guy and thought it would be cool if your companion could go all skeletal/zombie too.

So i agree, it would be cool if polymorphs could be used for them.

And sure hat/helm options, that's an odd one not to be able to toggle it on/off like a player.

I agree. Players aren't so clueless that most of them would mistake a companion for another player or NPC just because of a face obscured by a helmet. Besides, it's easy enough to see the name "[Player]'s Companion" above the follower. Polymorphs would be even cooler. Also nice would be for devs to allow us to equip companions with stick mounts.

The Companions are important and distinctive characters, not a pet. So I disagree on the polymorph. I agree with hats and helmets though.

Hats, helmets and circlets is what I'd like to see usable on companions.

    I agree.

I would like my companions to be able to wear a helmet or some hat or other accessories. Perhaps even change the hairstyle, if that's not too much.

Uh, no, I'm going to say probably not the first one. Marry, yeah, maybe, I can't see why not as it was a thing in Skyrim. Support for companion romance remains consistent. It's actually something Fallout 76 implimeted before ESO and even though the system itself is kinda janky (it's F76, it is is what it is) there is something sweet about having them happy to see you at your camp after a long day scavenging.

So far, the only outfit to allow headgear to show for Companions is Mannimarco's costume.

It's hard to make the argument that they are distinctive when there's a clone army of Bastians running around. I personally see no harm in allowing what the OP requested. It really falls into the area of "if you don't like the feature/ability don't use it" in my book.

The entire reason they don't allow you to wear helmets is because they are distinctive characters. Other players are random adventurers not the vestige and aren't doing the same things as you, unless you're grouped. It's easy to make that distinction despite us all playing the same quests. So, no I don't think other people being able to run the same quests means Bastian and Mirri are suddenly not unique characters. Those other clones are Adventurer's companion, not Ember and Isobel. That they look similar is immaterial to them being distinctively different characters in the lore.

Allowing people to alter their characters significantly changes that perception because gameplay influences a player's perception of characters. Many games place restrictions on how much you can alter to ensure you view the character as a distinct entity that they set vs games where players are allowed to create their own character, in games where the character is viewed as an extension of the player's imagination rather than solely a character in the story. This is a major reason for wanting the feature in the first place. So that Bastian and Mirri feel unique to you as a player and your personal head canon of what you'd want your traveling buddy to be rather than ZOS's character.

Allowing people complete control of their characters look alters the player immersion of the character as a distinct and separate "person" in the story, whether or not they use the feature. So no, I don't think it's a matter of don't like it, don't use it. The second that Isobel can be literally anybody, she becomes nobody. Just another extension of the character creator rather than her own, separate from the player character. There's nothing wrong or incorrect about valuing that immersion and wanting it to stay as is. And nothing wrong with wanting a blank slate. But the two aren't all that compatible.

Companions this far are too samey to be distinct characters. For example, no matter which one you have with you when visiting a city, they all blather how they love cities, muh immersion. If its really too expensive to write actual different
smalltalk instead of variation of the same for each, give us a mute companion instead and save dialogue writing and voice acting costs.
