I'm standing in Bruma at the transit shrine in the invulnerability area where combat literally impossible and somehow I'm still in combat...

Could some @ZOS developer tell us why they are ignoring the broken in combat status since years?

You stay in combat until everyone you have been in combat with drops out of combat.

It sounds like such a simple thing to fix, yet they can't manage to do it. I don't even want to know how it is interweaved within the spaghetti code.

Its the way it is intentionally.. They dont want people going "Ive had enough of this fight end combat now" and going thru doors unchallenged in dungeons etc etc... if you enter combat your in it till yur dead or they are!

This is about PvP (they are in Bruma). In dungeons - kill what you pull. But that is easier said than done in PvP. Also, mobs reset upon player death, enemy players usually don't.

For real. This is super annoying. Combat status should reset when you die or when you rez at your own keeps and towns.

Whether PVP or PVE it seems the same, my experience of the new improved system is, if anyone else is in combat in the area, you will be in combat. I often do the atolls of Immolation and get trapped there after killing the final boss, because someone in the previous room I have never fought with and who was never in the final room with me is fighting, cannot port out, because I am supposedly in combat. Everything I ever fought is dead!

Sorry to say it but don't get your hopes up. ZOS is kinda bad when it comes to fixing "small" bugs like these

I've been stuck in combat for upwards of 10 minutes, sitting in an empty field in Cyrodiil doing nothing.

Sometimes the easiest way to get out of combat in Cyrodiil is to die. Find an enemy keep, resource, or town and let the guards kill you. Delve mobs might be able to kill you as well. If a player doesn't kill you, you may be able to use a soul gem to resurrect at that location instead of respawing at a shrine. A damage or drain health potion can speed the process along.

We shouldn't have to go out of our way to compensate for developer bugs. "In combat" should drop when you get a certain distance from who you were fighting. Not 20 minutes later (maybe) when you're both at different bases 10,000 meters away from each other. They haven't bothered to fix the years long 49,710 day debuff bug either.... which is clearly caused by a 64 bit stack overflow.

Gotta add one more "stuck in combat" in this thread.

When in PvE, if enemy summon something and you kill that enemy before the summoning. The system seems to think there's still the summoning enemy you need to kill, but since the summoner was gone, the summonings just disappeared.

So you'll stuck in combat for a few seconds, sometimes it will be more than 10 seconds which definitely sucks.

It doesn't always work, I've rezzed many times in a safe location, like the base for eg., and I was still in combat. I think it's more to do with what another commenter said above, that it only resolves when everyone in your previous fight is out of combat, or at least when the effect on them wore off. I don't know why sometimes that means being stuck in combat for 10 minutes in a field but here we are

    Just try this:

Engage in combat with a friend away from other enemies, stop attacking each other and check how long you stay in combat. Alternatively, in a larger fight, throw a light attack at someone you know dies reasonably fast. Stop engaging and check how long you stay in combat.

Now do the same with one of your enemy factions most infamous troll tank who is already engaged in combat with others. Alternatively, touch or get touched by one of the better ball groups while they farm half your faction.

In the former situations you drop out of combat reasonably fast. In the latter, no horse riding, mail checking, or changing your undies until the tank / ball group dies or disengages. It does not matter if you stay close to the fight or port away.

But after all, it could be worse. In the past, you were not allowed to port via Transitus when stuck in combat.
