Are some leads just bugged for certain characters or something ?

Okay, so to start off I know, I know RNG is RNG.
The lead can drop the first time you try to get it or the 10th or even 50th and that's just the way it is.
But here's the thing: Some leads just aren't dropping for me no matter what, for months of trying.
There are 2 in particular I noticed I couldn't get regardless of the time spent.
  • Dagon's Scalding Gibbet - this one drops from Wandering Bosses in the Deadlands. Back when DLC first released I killed 30 of them for the achievement in one day. No lead of course, but well that's just bad luck. Except, here we are over a year later, and I haven't got it even once, despite killing few Havocrels a week. That's like at least 150 more chances for it to drop.
  • Nest of Shadows - group dungeon Arx Corinium, specifically the final boss drops it. Since the release of Antiquities and Greymoor chapter (over 2 years) I got it only once. Pretty sure it was one of the few first times I ran this dungeon too. Since then I completed the stickerbook for this dungeon when that came out and continued to run it occasionally for pledges/random. That's around 40 times for the stickerbook alone and easly over another 100 runs on top of that.
I compare those two with the leads for mythics I decided to chase during witches festival (the ones i was still missing) and I noticed that leads obtained from killing bosses tend to drop pretty consistently and generously - the longest it took was 11 attempts, but usually within 1 to 5. Leads dropping from mobs are another thing, those took some grinding (hello Mora's Whispers - I hope to never have to kill another watcher or watchling again). Same thing with quite a few other antiquity furnishings - I dug up 30 of some and just started ignoring the leads if they drop again.

The thing is - I did all of that with one and the same character because I play only one character. At this point i have to wonder if those two (and maybe some other) leads are just bugged specifically for this character in particular. I know those leads are dropping for other players. If they weren't someone would have mentioned it long ago.

I have talked to the Shadowy Supplier in Vivec almost every day for half a year and chosen the stupid Sithis gear that no one actually needs or wants, and have not gotten the lead from that ever.

    So - yes.

That's one problem with RNG based drops, there is no way for us players to prove if a drop is broken or not.

I have more than one character but do a lot of stuff on my main, and I have the same problem.

One of the things that others have said may interfere is having leads that you have not scryed and dug up, and that could be the case.

However, some leads take too long even with all leads completed.

I have the same problem with daily quest and motif page drop rng and also furnishing plan drop rng. I don’t know if it’s something related to the number of achievement points achieved or what it might be. I would be interested if others have the same thing and what they think might be the case. I feel like my character is cursed in some way, and trying things on another one is not much better, if the other characters are even capable of doing those tasks.

I'm also having trouble finding a 2nd lead for the Dwemer Star Chart furnishing. I got the first when Greymoor launched, and can't seem to find a 2nd one. Any tips, as in monsters or places to do, would be greatly appreciated.

The same way other things are limited, like for instance how many style pages you can get from events (one per account per day), just to mention one of the many, many cooldowns and restrictions placed in the game, so it should be limited how many attempts you make before succesfully acquiring a lead.

Either there is a hard cap or a soft cap, but there should definitely be a cap.

In my (extensive) experience some leads have a heavily decreased drop rate once you've gotten the first one (and dug up the item). It's especially the case for some golden furniture items; you are meant to have one, but if you want more of it, an extensive grind lies ahead of you. So, it's not only RNG, it's by design.

It took me two years to get final lead for the music box, first time round, it was the safebox one that just would not drop. I then got all the leads three more times in quick succession but was not actively looking for them.

I have several furnishings that I have only ever received one lead for and I swear if the game knows you are actively looking for a lead, ANY lead it will not drop!!

Moon Blessed Pools I have two but I cannot for the life of me get a third lead to drop, the one that drops from the Gryphons, can't rememeber it's name but it's a banner with flames......that I still only have one of, the list goes on!

However I don't think any of these leads are actually broken because if I ask in my guilds there is usually somebody who has got one recently. I think the conditions for them to drop aka rng are just awful!
    When people say to me........
"You're going to regret that in the morning"
I sleep until midday cos I'm a problem solver!

Yeah, that bit about golden furnishings leads having a significantly decreased chance of dropping after the first time certainly seems true.

To this day I only have one of Dwemer Star Chart, Golden Idol of Morihaus, Prismatic Sunbird Feather and Rune-Carved Mammoth Skull - curiously enough all of those are supposed to drop mainly from killing standard overland enemies.
Also like previously stated I have only one Nest of Shadows as well, which is a golden furnishing, but drops from a final dungeon boss instead.

On the other hand so far I dug up 15 Echoes of Aldmeris (Auridon treasure chests), 30 Sorcerer-King's Blades (Cyrodiil town daily quest boxes), 30 Vampiric Stained Glass (Reach Harrowstorms) and 30 Void-Crystal Anomalies (harvesting nodes in Coldharbour. I stopped digging them up after 30th time, otherwise I would have even more. Also 25 St. Alessias, Paravant but those are orange not gold.
So it would seem that some gold furnishing leads drop like candy while others are almost non-existent.

In my experience leads from killing bosses drop a lot faster then those from killing mobs - with few notable exceptions which made me start this thread.

But Dagon's Scalding Gibbet doesn't fit into any of those categories - it's a purple furnishing, it drops from a world boss and I haven't managed to get it even once, despite trying for over a year now.

i have a similar experience with Dagon Scalding Gibbet: dropped one at the first kill of wandering boss in the first day of DLC release.........found the second after 9months and 120+ wandering bosses killed.....other notable leads which i can't seems to drop are pieces of belharza band and markyn ring (deadlands dailies, BC mobs and falkreath chests) and cyro lancers (after the codex disaster, i've totally gave up on those)

I can tell you that RNG does suck. For the leads that you can get by doing daily quests or talking to the shadowy supplier for example I just park all 8 of my toons at that character and do those each day on each one till I get the lead. Even my low level toons can participate.
