My game account never asks for an access code despite me moving places multiple times

I'm a student who has moved to many different accommodations over the last few years since I've had my pc account. I read that when your IP changes you are meant to verify your login however I haven't had to do this once since I made the account.

This only happens on the game launcher, the web login asks me for a code every time my IP changes. For some reason, the NA server asks for a code (tested this the other day).

I am using the same computer I always have. Is this working as intended?

On Steam at least you'll never be asked for an access code ever as you automatically login through Steam's verification.

wish i had that problem with my bank.. I have the opposite and every single time i go to log in i have to call or text from them a code and its drives me mental, im tired of companies telling me what kind of security I need for my password.

i feel you... besides if you're going to lose ur account it's going to be by a hacker using a token stealer or something, nobody brute forces anymore because all sites and what not have systems in place for that. I wish ESO would auto-login when i hit login from regular launcher even...

If the Launcher is asking for a code, the game client does not need to. If you loaded the client directly, it would ask for the code, it does with me.

I have not always had to put in a code when say, traveling for business. In fact I think it rarely does. However, I have had my PC or my Laptop that have had the same public IP for months do the verification thing. I have had to use a code when I changed a Sound Card or a Video Card.

So, it works, just not in ways we mere mortals can divine.

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Sorry what's the difference between the launcher and the client?

The launcher is a small window that has a news screen as well as a bar at the bottom with a button to the right side of that bar that says Play. When downloading an update that bar shows the progress of the download and install.

The client is the large or full size window that opens up after clicking play. That window includes the loggin screen and turns into the game once loaded into the game.

Oh I see, yeah I meant the game client never asks for a code, the game launcher in my experience has never asked for one either, presumably because I'm not logging into anything yet

Yes, only the game client would as for a code.

It is concerning that you have never been asked for a code given all the moving you have done yet I am asked for a code from time to time (not often) when my PC has not moved at all.

In that case should I open a ticket? Not sure what they could do about it if it's only me affected

Just to confirm, you've only gotten the access code prompt through the account website and not through the ESO game client?

Do you have a second PC you can test on?

(Thank you for getting back to me!!)

Yep, the website asks for an access code whenever my IP changes. But the game client literally never does.

    I don't unfortunately
