I found it. on the patch notes....for future reference it says The setting can be found within the Gameplay menu, then toggling "Limit Followers in Towns.” Again, this is an optional feature you can turn on or off at your discretion!

This setting only works in “towns,” by which they mean within a few feet of crafting stations. It really isn’t what the phrase suggests.

The option to limit followers in town doesn't work. I was at the Clothing Station in Rawl'kha and there was a Sorcerer right at the crafting table with their Twilight Matriarch and Clannfear very visible and in the way, even though I have the option to limit them toggled on.

I second what @SilverBride is telling above: The feature doesn't work very well. Players can stand just a bit back from tables, still able to talk to NPCs, while it's already sufficient for the followers to remain visible. An adjustment of the radius of effect would really be necessary.

Beside, another point is, that it was said to be working for "services", but my experience is that it doesn't work for banks at all. For example, try Bank in Vulkhel (Auridon) at peak times...

On a side note: there seems to be a rising new mode, that consists of not dismounting at crafting stations... :s

The hide option doesn't work very well, the affected area is tiny.

I've seen it kicking in - pets vanish as a player steps up to a crafting station, but they have to be right next to it (literally as close as you can get) and in the middle for it to work. If they stay back or to one side the pets stay, even if the player is using the crafting station.

Also it's based on the players position, if they stop near the crafting station the pets can be right on top of it and won't be hidden because the player is too far away to be affected.

Impossible to hide other players without hacking the game, which is a violation of the ToS.

Considering it's a 'feature' added by ZOS in the settings, it's clearly not a ToS violation. However, the problem is that it doesn't work properly.

I'm increasingly thinking the way round people not turning off their flappy things and giant bears everywhere is to make having them out within ten miles of a town a CRIMINAL ACT.

It’s not a criminal act at this point in the elder scrolls timeline. It also would not make sense in the game as it directly clashes with the lore.

Clearly that I was mocking the necromancy warning on load screens was lost on some. But in the real world it is incredibly annoying and perhaps a lore break is exactly what's needed.

There is a whole myriad of quests that involve deadric creatures in towns. Even the main quest has Tharn summoning you in a town with a deadric creature.

I think the best solution (and tbh people having pets does not bother me in the slightest) is to have combat pets auto unsummon when using a wayshrine.

It will stop many sorcs who just forgot to unsummon their pets when they are just going to a bank.

I wish they would increase the radius (or introduce a toggle where we can hide them everywhere in towns) because as it is now, it's not very useful at all.

Should hide all pets in towns. Does anyone really need to see dozens of those low poly twilights.

I really don't understand why they don't, at a minimum, use the same transparency that already exists for Shadowrend on ALL pets and things that get in the way (DK standard etc). Even solo, Maw stands literally right in front of you much of the time.

Personally I hate only the wing flapping matriarchs, all other pets even flying dragons aren't that much annoying like the flapping monstrosities.
