Like the title says. How do I know if I reached the crit dmg cap?
My Kahjitis using Briarheart set, Acceleration from the psijic skill tree.
I'm thinking of making my second set Orders Wrath. Will that get me to crit dmg cap?

The cap is 125%. I’m not sure if its in the character menu or not, I think it is.

Go into character, look under "advanced stats". You'll see "crit damage". You start at 50%. So if it says, 40%, then you are at 90% total. If it says 75%, you are capped
2 GOs, an overlord and bunches of prefects etc-- all classes...I've wasted a lot of time in PVP

How do you even get to 75%?
Even with kajit passive and minor force and the Orders Wrath set it doesn't sound like it's even possible to get to 75%.

    11% shadow mundus
    10% minor force
    20% major force
    12% axes

That is 63% already just 12% short from the cap. And there are still race passive class passives and sets.

To add on to this, there are 2 CP stars that increase crit damage. Minor brittle is another 10%, and major brittle is another 20%. In an optimized group you'll reach cap no problem.

You are not really supposed to reach cap solo. The cap was introduced to be low enough to limit the high end damage of top tier organized 12-man Trial groups, but high enough to be unlikely to impact solo players. I don't know if maybe you could theoretically reach it solo, but it would probably be self defeating because you'd end up lacking in crit chance or penetration or base damage or resources or regen or some combo of them.

For example, let's say you have a skill with:

    Base damage = 7000
    Crit chance = 50%
    Crit Damage = 125%

That means you do 7000 damage half the time and 15750 damage the other half of the time. An average of 11375 damage.

Now, let's say you have a different build with same skill and:

    Base damage = 10000
    Crit chance = 65%
    Crit Damage = 80%

You have lost what sounds like a huge amount of crit damage: 45%! But you have gained penetration or weapon damage or higher max resources or some combo, and some extra crit chance.

That means you do 10000 35% of the time and 18000 damage the other 65% of the time. An average of 15200 damage, significantly higher than the 11365 average on the build with capped crit damage.

all divines will boost the shadow mundus. 7 pieces = 63.7%,8 pieces using shield is 72.8%.

How do you even get to 75%?
Even with kajit passive and minor force and the Orders Wrath set it doesn't sound like it's even possible to get to 75%.

    50% - base crit dmg

    Passives and skills:
10% - khajiit passive (Feline Ambush)
10% - NB passive (Hemorrhage) / Templar passive (Piercing Spear)
4-24% - Warden passive (Advanced Species)
12% - 2H passive when using axe (Heavy Weapons)
6-12% - DW passive when using axe/axes (Twin Blade and Blunt)
2-14% - Medium Armor passive (Dexterity)

    Buffs and debuffs:
    10% - Minor Force buff
    20% - Major Force buff
10% - Minor Brittle debuff on target
20% - Major Brittle debuff on target
11-17% - Shadow Mundus with 0-7 divine traits

    Sets:
    8% - Order's Wrath set
5-15% - Elemental Catalyst set debuff on target
    4-16% - True-Sworn Fury set
    1-10% - Harpooner's Wading Kilt mythic item
    15% - Senche's Bite set
    12% - Sul-Xan's Torment set

    CP:
    8% - Fighting Finesse
    10% - Backstabber

So, in general, for cap crit dmg you need group with good uptimes: Major Force, Minor Brittle and Elemental Catalyst. It will give you +45% crit dmg, when add it to your 50% base crit dmg and you already have 95% crit dmg. And you only need get 30% more crit dmg: 10% - Minor Force, 10% - Kilt, 10% - 5 medium armor pieces.

In you want get solo cap so - 50% base + 10% NB/Templar + 10% Khajiit + 30% Grave Inevitability set (100% uptime Major and Minor Force buffs) + 12% Kilt (10% from Kilt and 2% from medium armor passive) + 8% Fighting Finesse + 6% 3 medium pieces (4 in total with kilt) = 126%

There's no good way to know if you are at the cap. That is the main problem with having an invisible hard cap on an important stat. This was just a poorly implemented bandaid fix.

Addons like combat metrics can be used to get an idea of both average and maximum crit damage, but even this does not give a full picture because various buffs and debuffs may be active or missing at different points throughout a fight.

The reason it is difficult is because it depends on group members, not just you. Often you'll have Elemental Catalyst, Major Force and Minor Brittle supplied in organized groups (dungeons and trials), giving 45% crit damage that you cannot see anywhere in your stats. Add that to your base 50% and you are at 95% already. Minor Force and Harpooner's Wading Kilt are essential in most content, so that is another 20% for 115%. The final 10% can be covered by class passives (Templar, NB, Warden), Medium Armor passives (2% per piece, up to 12% or 14%), Order's Wrath or Fighting Finesse CP.

This brings us to the 2nd problem, the cap is absurdly low for group content. A Khajiit wearing medium armor is effectively giving up their best racial passive, or even one in Light Armor if they are playing a crit class. Crit damage is really only something you can build into for solo content, and doing so will greatly reduce your effectiveness if you end up in a group with good supports.

My Khajiit Stamden is ruined. Even if I do t run trap or kilt in an optimized group I am giving up so much crit damage because of the racial passive alone.

Parsing I’m over the cap by around 18% if I remember and I’m not running trap or kilt and have 2pc light monster set, master inferno backbar and hit flame reach every 4th skill to keep the extra 600 wep and spell dmg. That makes for a really complicated rotation and a lot more bar swapping than I like but can still manage 107K on the dummy. Before crit nerf I was running EC on this toon with lightning staff backbar and it was going for 112K.

Now my favourite race and class have been gutted. I’m giving up hard content and going back to being a quester. Oh I’ve got a DK, blade and Cro like every other end game raider out there that hits plenty hard but I’m just getting tired of playing the same thing over and over and over and over for the past 2 years.

@Everest_Lionheart Agreed, I had to retire my 4 Khajiit characters and just play elves now. They should honestly just change the 12% crit damage passive to 6% crit chance. Back in the day it was 8% crit chance, but IMO 6% would provide better balance in the current meta.

Still one of the best solo race+class combos as Khajiit Stamden. Slightly more versatile I think with the changes but I’m not completely sold with the warden changes right now. The class just feels so wrong to me.
