Mirri and harvesting bugs

I'm sure that some invisible things that you hit ocasionally while jumping shouldn't affect relation with companion.

[snip]

At least it should proc not when you just accidentally hit a insect with X button, but when you actually took something from this node. I CAN"T SEE THIS at all and it makes me angry each time, because a rarely do something that improves Mirri relation. [snip]

Do whatever but don't punish player for not taking some crazy pixel on tv screen into account. I'm not a pilot of airforce.

Agreed. You can look in containers without stealing the contents and it doesn't bother anyone. Do the same with harvestable bugs.

if the negative rapport from harvesting a bug is only like -1, then 1 fighters guild daily with mirri will counter you accidentally looting 125 bugs lol (i dont remember the negative amount exactly, but even if its -5, 1 daily would counter 25 instances of negative rapport from harvesting a bug)

you dont even lose rapport on every bug as there is even a cooldown on the negative rapport

if your on PC there are also addons to disable certain interaction prompts to prevent the accidental bug harvesting

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

Absolutely - if you look in a container and steal what is inside, Bastian disapproves. If you look inside but don't steal it, he does nothing.

The same thing should happen with Mirri and bugs, because just examining them doesn't harm them.

Absolutely agree. Nearly all of my Rapport decreases from Mirri have come from bugs getting in my way when attempting to activate other things or jumping.

It's even more fun when the screen says hit E to open chest, and when you do, your character turns around, and runs 4 steps to grab some random bug that wasn't even on the screen..... just to upset Mirri.....

During the most recent event, I decided to have my alts pick up companions they didn't already have. I took an alt to Blackwood and went to pick up the note to start the Mirri quest. I picked a bug instead of reading the note, and I took this as a sign not to go forward with the quest.

I feel there's universal dislike of this mechanic and it should be adjusted or removed.

I solved this problem by not using Mirri. She is rude and passive aggressive and she should get dinged for all the Rapport she has lost with me.

I find it funny that it depends on which character I am playing, as to how I view each companion.... my Breton Sorcerer likes Mirri, and even finds her endearing.... switch to my Imperial Templar Paladin, and he wanted to throw her off the first cliff ... and drop boulders after.

He actually is fine with Isobel, but none of my other characters can stand her..... she is fine with him (except for the creepy looks she sometimes gets, like she is about to eat your face -- see my other thread on that) --- my Dunmer DK is the ONLY character that can stand Bastian, though..... and only barely.... my other characters strongly consider homicide on that one.

I find myself very limited in companion choice as it stands. I can stand Mirri is small doses but after a while her 'snark' becomes annoying. I find both High Isle companions deeply un-fun and weird. I've tried, I really tried, even gave them all a fair shake but untimately, just a big ole nope to all three ladies. I only have Bastian that I get on with.

It is -1 rapport. I mean -1. Which awfully close to zero. I.e. nothing. If ever there was a nothing burger this is it =D. If you accidentally harvest a butterfly or a torchbug go read a book or kill a snake for compensation. But if you really want to build rapport with Mirri I suggest focusing on the fighters guild, ashlanders or clockwork city.

The flip side is, if I am NOT using Mirri, that's an extra step for each harvested bug. And it is a pain with her, but I run Ashlander dailies with the toons I use her with, so the occasional bug accident barely moves the needle.

That said, I hate how many torch bugs hang around skyshards. As often as not, when I try to engage a skyshard, I grab a bug.

She doesn't approve of killing innocent people and also doesn't approve of the blade of woe. Tamriel is a martial society, so the death of bandits, cultists, etc isn't viewed as killing an innocent but rather a criminal who is wanted dead or alive.

Mirri doesn't approve of the killing of innocents or cute insects, she has no qualms about the killing of bad people or "bad" insects.

    Yes, it's only one rapport.

But it's insanely bad design, and it really doesn't matter how small the penalty is; every single competent QA person on the planet--without exception--would never have allowed this to go live with you getting the penalty before comitting to actually killing the bug. It should be fixed, and every single person at ZOS who takes pride in their work should be demanding it be fixed.

You should not get a penalty for something you haven't actually done. That's the beginning, middle, and end of the entire conversation. There's no contrary argument to be made.

"If you're going to kill bugs, at least kill fetcherflies" is what she says when you touch a butterfly or torchbug. But unless you harvest the bug, it's not actually killed. I never liked killing torchbugs and the habit of leaving them alone came from Skyrim. Mirri's my favorite companion, but it's so infuriating how those bloody *** just fly in front of me just as I'm about to interact with something that sometimes when she's away I'll run around grabbing butterflies and torchbugs by the dozens with homicidal glee.

I had way more disapproval from Bastian over the killing small furry animals than I ever did from Mirri for bugs.

I'm sure this has been discussed countless times before, but yeah, it makes Mirri absolutely insufferable. It's not the rapport drops. -1, whatever. It's the fact that she will say some *** judgmental remark about it every. single. time. This game has trained us fundamentally that if we see something within arm's reach, we grab it without thinking. Having her around made me have to keep catching myself from doing that, and I got sick of it very quickly, and I haven't touched her since I got her to level 20. And, yeah, it's very easy to accidentally grab one and trigger another *** remark from her.

Thing is she doesn't really care, it's just an annoying line she says with no real consequences.

I got the prompt 200-300 times trying to get her to hate me on one toon and visually the line hadn't moved at all by the time I lost interest and gave up.

I agree this is annoying. The trigger should be when you gather the bug, not inspect it. Bugs hover around harvesting nodes (as they should), and it is very easy to accidentally touch them.

I do like Mirri, but the bug thing is dumb. Seems like she should hate me for selling recovered artifacts to an innkeeper as opposed to a scholar. Yet there are the treasures of Tamriel, in a broom closet at the Flaming Nix.

I had way more disapproval from Bastian over the killing small furry animals than I ever did from Mirri for bugs.

He just comments that he thinks killing small fluffy things is a bit unnecessary (Isobel also does this) while Mirri actually gives you rapport loss for picking torchbugs. It's not really that big an issue though considering it nets you a grand total of -1 rapport which is reality has very little impact if you're mostly doing things she likes. You'd have to spend all day picking torchbugs to upset Mirri's rapport balance. I do think there should be some leeway though, like with Bastian and theives troves, you should be able to 'open' a torchbug without getting a reaction. Maybe something for the devs to consider if they ever get around to updating the Blackwood companions to the level of the newer ones.
