I don't know if anyone has mentioned yet, but there is a "travel to player" feature in the game, whereupon you can travel (for free) to the location of any player who is in your group, in your friend's list, or in your guild list (as long as they are actively online).

You can do this by going to their name in the list as right clicking. Many people take advantage of this to get to locations and zones they have not discovered yet and have no wayshrines for without the hassle of having to walk all the way there or take a boat. Could be something to check out if you find yourself a guild.

Also, the boats at each city's docks go to different locations depending on which city your in, and you can check where they go by hovering over their icons in your full map.

One of my biggest complaints is not being able to get over mountains. There should always be a pass over the mountains shown on the map with those little dots.

My first computer was an Atari 400, then an 800 (were they computers?). Then a Tandy model II.

The game has gotten really big over the years, and personally I don't think it's helpful that they removed starting in Coldharbour with a new character, but if you feel lost with all the quests available, here is a very good forum post that shows them in order: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/525351/a-clear-step-by-step-guide-to-playing-eso-in-chronological-order It's a lot digest, but imo the story is much better appreciated if you do the quest lines in order, despite zos saying you can start wherever and it will make sense.

My first computer was also a C64... I still have it actually.

Anyways, ESO is an MMO first, a TES game second.

I know loadsa folk who loved the TES games but didn't like ESO as they were expecting it to be Skyrim online or something.

That was actually what we trained on in College....

My biggest issue right now has more to do with how the game is being presented...they are trying to please too many people and in doing so acting like they don't really care about anyone, I don't expect them to show up at my house with Birthday presents or anything, but a little less contempt would be nice. And the game is really showing it's age especially compared to games like BDO and the upcoming Throne and Liberty.

I guess it doesn't matter as I have more or less moved on...

The good thing about gaming in the early days ((my first comp was ZX81) but first gaming comp ZX Spectrum)); was that you could turn the comp off fairly easily and go do other stuff instead.

Now I have to force myself away, lol.

They need to update the marking in Coldharbor. Figuring out where to go there can be downright confusing.

You also have to fully play through the tutorial to pick your starting zone, otherwise you get the default one. That is also annoying. Let me replay the tutorials for any release and even all of them! (Take away the full skill point if you must, but leave the single skyshard, it is a drop in the bucket over time.)

"And this is where you have to be prepared for the hack/slash element of the game. Sometimes it seems like you are constantly flooded with enemies, no matter which way you turn. And if you don't engage in the combat you can try to run/sprint pass them" funny because one of eso's complaints is that enemies die way too fast and are non dangerous. Maybe try getting a companion that taunts, sorcerer has a clanfear monster too that taunts. this at least makes enemies not attack you.

"n the previous games I developed a liking to sneak around in the delves searching for teasures."
Vampire has faster going to sneak, Some races have decreased stealth detection radius. cp gives you decreased stealth detection radius, Medium armor i think also gives decreased stealth detection radius. Blade of woe let's you one shot enemies + the shadow cp makes you invisible after and if you explore this cp ability you find out there's lots of ways to use it.
Invisibility potions exist and are cheap, Nightblade also exists.

"the looting is terible with tons of food items that you can collect and craft and sell for 1 gold. It doesn't feel like it is worth the time," yes that's called filler. Sometimes you find something valuable like a furnishing plan or motif.
I find the whole food thing to be more of a role play thing. it gives life to the game.

"So I have learned and accepted the hard way, that this will never be like the previous games, this is a totally different game" yes ppl come here because they think it's skyrim 2.0 instead of a mmorpg with a bad engine.
Eso wasn't even made by bethesda and i doubt tom howard was involved outside of saying what the story couldn't explore like dwemer.

"The quests I have finished so far has all been very very time consuming" get ready there's 2500+ of them. If you hate combat so much, maybe join a guild and ask someone for training gear so you can lvl up and kill enemies faster. also spam aoe abilitys on them.

"So it is a bit like running around with no purpose and being passed by a lot of other players" you should get addon's it's easy to install them. https://www.esoui.com/downloads/info1022-QuestMap.html for example tells you where all the game quests are. you can also find mini maps on that site, Most people use minion like me, i only use the necessary addons ofcourse.
I can help if you need.
    HWgRHAi.png
And i agree, people shouldn't need addons for basic things. But here we are, it took years for them to add timers to the skill bar, years. and it's still not that good.

Ah i see you already got addons, that's great :)

My first computer was a VIC-20, as well. :) And I had one of those expansion boards that let you plug in multiple cartridges at once or switch easily between them. I did have at least one graphical adventure game for it-- Sword of Fargoal-- but most of my games for it were those Scott Adams text adventures.

Then I bought an Atari 800XL, followed by an Atari 130XE. I briefly had a couple of other models-- a 600XL and a 65XE-- but the 800XL and 130XE were my main models. I had a few games from the Temple of Apshai and Ultima series, plus a number of more arcade-style games.

After that, I bought a used Amiga 1000 from a friend. I had several of the Ultima games for it, including the Ultima Underworld games, plus Keef the Thief, Drakkhen, Questron, a number of other titles I can't recall, and a few Level 9 text games.

Then I bought my first Windows computer, and have gone through several of those over the years. I was on my first (aborted) playthrough of Wizardry 8 when Oblivion came out-- and once I started playing Oblivion, there was no going back!

I also have a Macbook Air, plus several iOS, Android, and Android-based devices, but Windows is my preferred OS.

/Hands-up ;) (Yes, I dropped the box once)

my first PC was a trash 80 model 1 with 16k of ram... I have upgraded a few times since then.

My first MMO was Meridian59, when over 100 people got on the servers the game started to lag badly...

I met my wife in Holtberg, a town in Asheron's Call...

There should be some new player friendly guilds that are willing to help you when you need help and hopefully leave you alone when you are just wanting to run around and explore...

I wish I still had the picture, I called it "Adventures in Reaper's March", I found a way through the invisible wall and made it to the edge of the map... but that PC died years ago, and I did not have the pictures backed up :(

And thanks to some of the other posters on this thread, I feel young (only 64)

Add-ons are your friend, they help you find things, do things, and just help alleviate the tedium of some things... and in my case, remind me of what I was going to do before I got distracted... again.
Of all the things I have lost, I miss my mind the most...

It is nice to read about where you come from computer wise. I guess I am only and child compared to you, with my 57 years of age.

I did actually went back to the main quest and finished it, and then did the Mages Guild and the Fighters Guild main quests, and they were very rewairding in story and fun time palying.

I am currently level 50 with 110 CP, and I guess I am having 70% fun and 30% frustration with the game.

It seems that it is pointles to continue listing frustrations, and when I am also a Mac player, things has gottern worse with the Ventura OS.

I have almost finished the Psijic Order quest, and joined several Dolmens. Dolmens are very forgiving in terms of looting gear, since there is always a lot of players involved and it is very very easy.

At level 50 I began to do Public Dungeons. It is possible to get to the skyshards without taking on the bosses, but there are always grous of npcs on your way. I find that with a Damage Shield and some health and magicka boosting food and drinks, you can probably do them fairly easy.

So for now I am collecting gear and materials to level up my crafting skills, but with one last frustration - why the f*** does it have to take so bl***y long to research. It is not like it is rocket science, and like everything else, it normally gets easier the more experience you gather.. I get that the npcs matches your level and are exponentially harder to kill, but it makes no sence that a trait that took 1 day to research, now takes 23 days.......

It is like, in an attempt to keep the players playing the game, the only solution is to painfully drag things out in extremes.

And you should really pay attention to this, when you are new, and unfortunately do not know this and just want to play for the fun of it.

It would makes sense though if the traits were also leveled, but since it is exactly the same trait, it seems that it is another half heartet effort in creating the game.

I numbered my cards because I know myself too well!

yes the research... and why is it such a pain to get nirn exemplars. ugh.

"Because it does" is the basic reason. They want to stretch it out. Keep in mind that you can reach full research in about 6 months of play (or so). At least that is my experience on 4 platforms. It takes a while, but does eventually complete. Not that big of a deal to have it, but I do it for all my alts, so I am grinding that a LOT. I also do all my decon on my main on the server so that sucks up a lot of storage until I go back to decon with my max account, to maximize the chance mat gains from that.

You will get there. Lengthening things is part of an MMO.
