My first computer was a Compaq with a 600 mhz processor and 256 mb memory - that was a long time ago - and I began to assemble my own computers. I joined 2 hardwaretest sites and began to overclock the processors and the hunt for finding the best steppings, and spent a lot of time soldering under a microscope and burning BIOS.
I also spent some years with protonic.com doing general support.
my first pc was a tandy 100 with cga graphics that was eventually upgraded to ega. played pools of radiance on it. 8088 processor.
My first computer was a Commodore 64. IIRC it connected to a TV. I played Donkey Kong on it.

The game has gotten really big over the years, and personally I don't think it's helpful that they removed starting in Coldharbour with a new character, but if you feel lost with all the quests available, here is a very good forum post that shows them in order: https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/525351/a-clear-step-by-step-guide-to-playing-eso-in-chronological-order It's a lot digest, but imo the story is much better appreciated if you do the quest lines in order, despite zos saying you can start wherever and it will make sense.

Sometimes it seems like you are constantly flooded with enemies, no matter which way you turn. And if you don't engage in the combat you can try to run/sprint pass them" funny because one of eso's complaints is that enemies die way too fast and are non dangerous. Maybe try getting a companion that taunts, sorcerer has a clanfear monster too that taunts. this at least makes enemies not attack you.
"n the previous games I developed a liking to sneak around in the delves searching for teasures."
Vampire has faster going to sneak, Some races have decreased stealth detection radius. cp gives you decreased stealth detection radius, Medium armor i think also gives decreased stealth detection radius. Blade of woe let's you one shot enemies + the shadow cp makes you invisible after and if you explore this cp ability you find out there's lots of ways to use it.
Invisibility potions exist and are cheap, Nightblade also exists.
"the looting is terible with tons of food items that you can collect and craft and sell for 1 gold. It doesn't feel like it is worth the time," yes that's called filler. Sometimes you find something valuable like a furnishing plan or motif.
I find the whole food thing to be more of a role play thing. it gives life to the game.
"So I have learned and accepted the hard way, that this will never be like the previous games, this is a totally different game" yes ppl come here because they think it's skyrim 2.0 instead of a mmorpg with a bad engine.
Eso wasn't even made by bethesda and i doubt tom howard was involved outside of saying what the story couldn't explore like dwemer.
"The quests I have finished so far has all been very very time consuming" get ready there's 2500+ of them. If you hate combat so much, maybe join a guild and ask someone for training gear so you can lvl up and kill enemies faster. also spam aoe abilitys on them.
"So it is a bit like running around with no purpose and being passed by a lot of other players" you should get addon's it's easy to install them. https://www.esoui.com/downloads/info1022-QuestMap.html for example tells you where all the game quests are. you can also find mini maps on that site, Most people use minion like me, i only use the necessary addons ofcourse.
I can help if you need.
And i agree, people shouldn't need addons for basic things. But here we are, it took years for them to add timers to the skill bar, years. and it's still not that good.
Ah i see you already got addons, that's great

Hah! I have you beat! My first computer was a VIC 20, with an expansion device to switch between several cartridges. Not the best, but it was nice at the time.

It is not like it is rocket science, and like everything else, it normally gets easier the more experience you gather.. I get that the npcs matches your level and are exponentially harder to kill, but it makes no sence that a trait that took 1 day to research, now takes 23 days.......
