Remembering good times

I miss the times where I would be excited for an update, it's been rough these past 2 years and my excitement turned into dread and trepidation for what they'll do to the game. I used to love the combat in this game, used to love playing my necromancer but now everything feels pointless, meaningless boring, an afterthought to the devs more worried about the always turning cash machine of the crownstore. This is likely either getting deleted of heavily censored and that's fine, I just wanted to vent a bit, I used to have ESO on my home and travel computer now it's only my home one, I wonder how long until it's in none of them.

Ye, good old days when I was excited for an event, now they feel repetitive and boring and If I don't need tickets, I skip them completly.

Events are too frequent, which makes them feel far less special.

Yeah that feeling is kinda gone years ago, now it's better to expect nothing but even then there's a big chance for disappointment.

This one can understand that some players have event fatigue, but for Sammy and others who missed out on some of the indriks and pets, this is a really good opportunity to catch up.

Agreed. Excitement has been replaced with dread. From hope to fear for not what might have been, but for possibly losing what is.

And ZOS Devs being 'unmoved' as someone put it by our attempts to reason with them.

The releases have felt very by-the-numbers the last few years, and I think my gaming style has shifted as well. Summerset and Morrowind I used to listen to quests, explore, and take it slow. I find myself doing that a lot less in game, and that's partially on me. It's also part of the yearly design - just consume, get through the content, and grind. Honestly, I have event and change fatigue in this game.

I still have fun though. I try to shake up how I play and temper my expectations with these releases. My biggest gripe is the increasing monetization, frequent combat changes, and lack of in-game goals like new houses, mounts, etc.. I enjoy the zones and combat most of the time, but don't find a lot of the events very compelling lately.

Dread is a good description when it comes to approaching updates regarding combat. Though I appreciate and enjoy most of the qol features introduced in the fairly recent past updates (companions, stickerbook, outfit system, writ improvements. . .), ESO has trained me to indeed dread combat changes. It is frustrating to work hard achieving a solid character only to realize you have built upon a base of shifting sands. It is demoralizing to work hard, get smarter about the game, yet watch your dps degrade with each update.

One thing I miss is the scavenger hunt with each new expansion. The last one we had was in Greymoor, and that one was poorly done. (Still haven't found them all.) I hoped Blackwood was a fluke, but there's none in High Isle either. I guess it's been replaced with randomly stumbling across leads.

Oh yeah! I forgot those museum quests, those were really cool. Would love to see those back!

Not sure whether we're discussing updates or events, but whatever. I have no issue with the updates, and haven't personally found that they're declined in content. As for events, they're fine as they go but there are certainly too many of them. They seem pretty much to run on one after the other throughout the year. As for Indriks, I got the original one and after that I couldn't see the point.

    Updates make me nervous too.

The one in march did something that never got fixed. It hit performance so badly I had to leave. I realize an update can just make the game unplayable for me and there is nothing I can do so it's affected how invested I'm ever willing to be now.

I only bought high isle because it was 60% off at gmg and gave firesong for free. If it wasn't for that I'd only just log in once a month to see if the stuttering and fps drops, that started in march, had ever been fixed.

This is my main issue. I know they like to change things up a bit to keep the game feeling fresh, and I don't mind a few tweaks here and there. Having a new set to farm or a new skill/CP to try out is fine. But having enormous overhauls every year is exhausting and demoralising. I'm still trying to get used to hybridisation here, and then U35 comes along.

I'm still enjoying events. Less so than my first year, admittedly, but they're still fun. Population goes up, guild trade goes up, zones are busier, it's good. I don't know if more frequent events lead to event exhaustion and declining participation, but I assume ZOS has the numbers.

Join the club good buddy. Took me the better part (worst in this case) of 6 & 1/2 years to see just how bad ESO has gotten and how terrible its direction is.

It was that bad that I literally uninstalled the whole game never to play again unless they can pull a rabbit out where the sun don't shine. (Let alone changing email due to trust being practically non-existent for ZoS and Bethesda at this point.) and given bethesda's checkered track record... Not looking good for their PR at all.
If you see me anywhere. Know that I am sitting back with a bag of popcorn, watching as ESO burns the goodwill of its player base with practices that only disrespects the players time like it did to me and many others...

If a game does not respect your time, best thing to do is move on from it and find something else.

This is exactly how I feel. The only positive part is that they're no longer refunding all skill points with major combat updates....I should probably type "yet" after that last thought...

Event Fatigue is my issue atm. I find myself logging in to do a few crafting dailies and to say hello to peeps. That being said I actually enjoyed High Isle quite a lot but I find I'm going to turn into one who comes back only during new expansions instead of logging in every day. Maybe just that I've explored and played all the other content till I can't take repeating all the same quest lines that have to do with alts. Not sure what it's going to take to change my outlook. The game has improved quite a lot over the years so I don't think it's ZoS's issue.

On a side note the new card game was nice but once you get all the perks and achievements for that I find it not worth doing. Perhaps some nice rewards with that?

Game updates could be more creative and less formulaic but I have to admit I do not miss the particular time period when taking a wayshrine was slower than running trough zone because 9min loadscreens.

These are still the good times. Its all perspective and choosing to enjoy the game.

The fact is, you've probably just started to stress about the combat changes instead of just rolling with it and enjoying the game. You probably didn't have your nose stuck in the combat changes every single month worrying about it and reading people complain on the forums everyday. Its a choice to get upset about it.

I'd gladly pay with my time on loading screens for Daedric Arc level of emotional impact and Murkmire level of zone design. That was time of good long stories and actual new content, not one zone chopped up and sold separately.

Elsweyr was still fine and its finale was... I'd just say there's someone I hope not to see amongst those New Life ghosts.
Greymoor was 99% meh and broken as heck. Markarth kind of made up for it with a good backstory and fresh look at Reachmen (and my fav vampires), but it's happy ending was so cheesy that I suspect Uncle Sheo's hand.
High Isle was so bland, that "bland" must have been the keyword for this season. Bretons reduced to standard medieval theme, how sad. Even base game Breton content was more fun. Oh, wait, that's because of Rivenspire, nvm.

People worried about cosmetics reskins, but now the whole seasons are hecking reskins of "bad guy is bad, leading character is awesome and most likely female, and here is the oh-so-new version of dolmens, mind the fresh mythics nerf in the next patch!".

Sorry, I can't remember good times without being salty because of how little trust I have in current team.

I've been reading patch notes for years now I do it for game I care about and I form my own opinions based on my own perception of how the game feels and plays. Combat is THE thing that made me stick to ESO, if I was more interested in the story(which I still do mind you) I would be playing single player games as those usually have better narratives. This argument of "oh you so do not care about this and are just pretending Hahaha" is honestly just terrible and doesn't account into it that some people just might enjoy the game in a different way than you do.
