Why is TESO becoming a turn based game??

The more eso persists it seem that its becoming a turned based game

With long cool downs of 1 sec cast times.

Set cd's of 1 sec or more

Then you have the pay to win necro that is completely nerfed having to " meet the requirements" to cast pet abilities.

This seems to be a very unbalanced situation.

Mag sorc - no requirements to cast pets except to double bar them
Necro - you have to "meet the combat requirements" to cast pets
Warden - you can cast your pets and switch bars all but the ultimate the bear

So the question is why is that TESO is moving towards turn based game mechanics?
and why the unbalance or only certain classes being nerfed?

Dear Community/Followers,

I want to address recent concerns regarding allegations of inappropriate direct messages and supposed cheating. First and foremost, I want to clarify that I do not admit to any wrongdoing. However, I understand that my actions may have been perceived in a way that caused concern.

As many of you know, I am a disabled veteran who served in Iraq, and I am permanently and totally mentally disabled. My PTSD, which was formally diagnosed in 2013 after being reclassified in the DSM-5, has affected me in ways that are difficult to fully explain. While this is not an excuse, it has, at times, clouded my judgment and impacted my behavior. This condition is something I have lived with for a long time, and it is a daily challenge.

As an influencer, streamer, and game reviewer with over 300 reviews, 800 followers on Twitch, and 1,600 followers on TikTok, I understand the responsibility that comes with my platform. Our role as influencers is to set a positive example, and I want to make it clear that I do not condone actions that go against the Terms of Service (TOS) or End User License Agreements (EULA) of any platform or community. Even though societal norms have evolved, and what was once deemed acceptable behavior in the past is no longer appropriate, I am committed to adapting and ensuring that my actions reflect the values we strive for today.

I want to go forward with a commitment to better representing the disabled members of our community. I recognize that I may never fully "fit in" or be "normal," but I am dedicated to improving and learning from these experiences. It is crucial that we have more flexibility and better support services for disabled veterans like myself, so we can remain active members of our communities without being unfairly limited by our disabilities. These services would help ensure that we can make better decisions and avoid situations like this in the future.

Thank you for your understanding, and I am grateful for the continued support of this community as I work to become a better version of myself.

Sincerely,
theshockcable

I'm so lost as to your point about the pet classes.

Adding 1s GCD's to proc sets was added to avoid free, easy, unavoidable burst combo's. It went directly against ZOS's combat balance which typically has larger telegraphs or travel times for burst skills.

Everything else has actually decreased over time. Jabs and Dizzy use to be around 1.3s to cast. Snipe was 1s or above. The only nerf to that would be Flurry going from 0.6s to 0.8s. Basically, they found over time that allowing these long cast time skills to fit within 0.8s allowed for not only consistancy, but the ability to weave light attacks like instant skills within that 1s GCD window.

ESO is a game about tempo, it's almost rhythmic when you start to learn light attack weaving as it starts to become muscle memory.. so having multiple abilities with odd timers didn't make for a consistent experience.

So to those 2 points, it's actually improved. However, the change to blocking/bracing in 2020 reduced things a bit, we used to be able to do block cancel longer animation like Whirling Blades and Betty.

Not entirely sure what you mean by requirements to cast pets. If you're talking about requiring a target to cast them, only blast bones has that condition and its one of the strongest delayed burst skills in the game, all the other necro pets can be pre-cast.

Sorc pets outside of atro require a 1.5 second channel to summon them and if that gets interrupted, the skill gets hard locked for 3 seconds before a summon can be attempted again. This is on top of requiring the pets to be double barred which means that sorcs miss out on a lot of bar space for buffs, debuffs and other dots that would help the class in solo/small scale/uncoordinated group situations.

Admittedly I can't really see the things you mentioned leading to ESO being a turn-based game. If anything, long cooldowns and longer cast times are actually common in MMORPG's I believe. I recently tried GW2 briefly and most of my character's skills had cooldowns of 6 to 20 seconds if I remember correctly, with some having a cooldown of 30 seconds. When I think of turn-based combat, something like Divinity: Original Sin comes to mind. Compared to that, ESO feels more like an action RPG or something.

Necro is not pay to win. It’a been 3 years since that class came out. Is the game just not supposed to add new classes? Necro isn’t even S tier meta in PVE or PVP right now.

I swear sometimes eso is like politics with how people parrot the same talking points over and over for years

    Yeah...
It is not turn based at all.

Turn based is something like Final Fantasy X, where you have to wait with your group until the Boss has attacked, for example. Or card games like Magic the Gathering or table tops or classic games like settlers of catan.

    Not ESO...

Besides GCDs are a necessity for syncing all combat events. Otherwise everyone with a better connection and FPS has a competitive advantage over "slower" players on low end PCs.

Now, that would be a real pay to win, btw.
If anyone here says: OH! But, PVP! I swear I'll ...

Thank you for the valuable input and respectfully recommend to discuss that aspect of ESO on the PVP forum.

I love how often we see "pay to win" and then you look at the state of warden and necro nerfs

I should to go with this reply.

ESO is far from a turn based game. I don’t even see where OP is demonstrating it is becoming a turn based game. Heck, the 1 second GCD has been in the game since launch and.is one of the shortest GCDs I have seen in MMORPGs.

so currently this is fixed with the necro. Thanks for your participation.
I'm sure if it occurs again it would be relevant.

My tenplar moves so smooth definitely doesn’t feel anywhere near turn based to me. A lot of us play eso for the combat which is unmatched by any other mmo besides maybe new world in my opinion
