None of the options actually appeal to me in this game. I wanted to do a stealth archer as I played in Skyrim; nope, not a good fit for my situation, in this game.

I don't like the "mage" vibe here. All over the place, and not - specific - as to fire or whatever. Shock? No thanks. Ice? Nope. And warden.... pet class yep , pet can hold aggro? Nope. And necro? I don't ever play necromancers.

I've settled into stamden, 2H. It works - but it's not my preference. But it does work, even with my mega ping.

As far as "fun" - combat isn't fun in ESO, so yeah. Nope.

Sneaky sneaks, specially when I was starting, I avoid fights like their the plague.
And I was killed by a gang of crabs when I was like level 5 with basic armor and weapon, 3 is considered a gang right.
And I swear revenge on that gang and kill them without reserve when I see any member of said gang.

    Overall probably Hybrid.

I'll be trying to make another Melee character when I get the Veya Hair but, so far I've never had one that I didn't turn into something else.

I've tried to do the sneaky bit a couple times but it feels like it works too well or doesn't work at all and it frequently involves choices my character would rather not make.

ESO's magic to me feels like the character was born powerful rather than becoming powerful and personally I much prefer the latter.

Usually I like the sneaky sneaky type with a bow that attacks from range and disappears into the shadows, but in ESO nothing beats playing my magplar and being an in your face magical warrior that is still a top notch healer supporting the group.

I prefer to play Magicka toons, I don't really care for stamina tbh, I find 2 handed and bow quite boring.

Everyone has their own preference, a better poll title would have been which archtype do you find the most fun.

I love the concept of a mage, plus devastating my opponents with a barrage of destruction before they even get into melee range is fun.

One of the things I've always liked about the TES games is that I'm not locked into a specific character type. ESO is more restrictive than any of the main series games of course (where even if you chose a class template to pick your starting skills and attributes you could still use whatever you wanted), but it's still pretty flexible in this respect.

My main character uses sneak attacks to open the battle and when possible to end it quickly, but she can hold her own in an extended fight and uses a mix of weapon and spell attacks (templar specifically, it's the nearest match for my usual mix of destruction and restoration magic).

Some of my others are more focused, but the only ones who fit entirely within one of these archetypes are the sorcerer and technically dragon-knight but using no class skills or any other type of magic, both of which I made specifically because playing that way is a bit of a novelty for me.

Wish I could say sneaky sneaky but that playstyle is way too limited, especially when it comes to rewards, gearing up, etc.

Sneaky can be satisfying, since stealth attacks are a lot of guaranteed damage, and blade of woe / vampire feeding have some amazing animations, but it's a much slower playstyle so that ends up hurting the experience/

Slash and smash is my favourite in pretty much all games except ESO, because the basic combat animations, weightlessness to weapons, and complete lack of impact to hits makes that playstyle feel pretty bad. And I always giggle when they add extra camera shake effects to melee attacks in their gameplay marketing videos, because it suggests they know it's awful and have to pretend it's better.

So magic is probably the best? But only because it doesn't really have a downside. Not because it's particularly impressive by video game standards.

Combat and animations continue to be the weakest parts of this game.

In the overland, my main is a
    • Khajiit (Feline Ambush - Decreases your detection radius in Stealth by 3 meters)
    • Vampire (Dark Stalker - Ignore the Movement Speed penalty of Sneak. Decreases the time it takes to enter Sneak by 50%.)
    • medium armor (Improved Sneak - Reduces the size of your detection area while Sneaking by 5% for each piece of Medium Armor equipped.)
    • Vesture of Darloc Brae (Reduces the radius you can be detected while sneaking by 2 meters.)
    • Night Mother’s Embrace (Reduces the radius you can be detected while Sneaking by 2 meters.)

    I choose my fights.

Definitely archer. I've tried weapons other than the bow and find them clunky. But I'm not usually a sneaky type unless I want to pickpocket or stab someone.

It depends on what you like.

If you want to sneak to avoid combat, that works very well. Sneaking to gain advantage in combat works sort of OK overland.

Throwing magic around works better than a lot of people suggest. However, a number of the coolest abilities have been removed from the game.

I couldn't comment on melee fighting. I don't much enjoy simulations of that.

A bow in a game like this is basically an oddly shaped magic wand.

Honestly, I don't remember the last time I actively used sneak in combat.

I have 3 of every class with 1 hybrid, 1 pure stamina, and 1 pure magicka. The hybrids have front bar stamina abilities with a martial weapon setup 2 1hSh, 2 DW, and 2 2h with backbar magicka abilities with a staff. Stamina characters are somewhat mixed 2 are 2h/Bow, 2 are DW/Bow, 1 1hSh/DW, and 1 1hSh/2h. Magicka builds are all the same frankly, Resto/Destro Staff, different abilities so they aren't exactly the same.

In terms of approach, I usually like to YOLO into fights in a 'hulk smash' manner, and learn by trial and error, but other times I don't feel like engaging in combat (especially for fetch quests, or IC) so sneaking is great. In terms of damage type, as visually impressive as magical spells look, I prefer using melee weapons, and I find dual wield especially cool. Like Lyrics says 'Damn magic, give me something to hit!'

Right now it's smash and slash because I just enjoy violating my enemies' personal spaces. It's been like that since Oblivion, my first TES game. However, now that ESO is like many cars, a hybrid, I might replace my backup bow (Skyrim taught me the importance of having a pew-pew handy) with a staff. This would make me a slash and zap, thus putting me in the "I walk my own path" category.

    Easiest: Rogue

    Fun: Mage

Stamina Nightblades are the easiest solo DD to build and play because of two things. The ability to Cloak which lets you disengage from fights, and the high amount of single target/direct damage the Class can do.

Sorcerers and Magic in general is just the more fun and interesting playstyle. I have a MagSorc that does almost nothing but Shock spells.
