Mag vs stam or ranged vs melee

Dude with 0 trials done here.

I remember that like a year ago, everyone was saying that stam dds are outcasts, and to get in vet trial you had to be mag. Nowadays, me, enjoying my stamcro and magblade, doing dungeons, having fun. Looking forward to doing trials and more group stuff than solo. My necro pulls ~30k/65k on dummies, and nb ~25-65k, stam wins a bit, but mag has the qol in terms of range and shield.

The question is - is mag still better than stam, or it is not a problem anymore to find a group for harder content (i mean really hard, like vet hm or so) as stam toon? And also whether the range/shields matters if you have good group and can do/follow mechanics of a given fight?

Thanks in advance!

There are certain trials where range is a huge benefit (VAS+ whatever, cloudrest +3). Some trials like Sunspire the fights are all close up so melee range is no hindrance. These days its more around what buffs need to be brought to the group - do you need Alkosh because the majority of DD are wearing medium armour, or would it be better to bring a buff that improves mag sustain and so on.

It's not so much about damage output but more what group buffs are needed. For example if the group is all magicka then it's easier for support to being magicka recovery buffs. A mixed group is harder to keep buffed. Though admittedly it is a lot easier now we have more hybridization changes: we don't need to worry about buffing spell damage vs weapon damage.
