Suggestion: let players turn off an NPC's repetitive message/singing

Obviously ESO does not understand how it can drive players nuts to hear the same NPC messages and singing over and over, unchanged for years.

Players should be able to go to the NPC and set it to remain silent. I mentioned this in chat and a player said he'd tries to use his blade of woe. People hate it.

I mean, the game is sort of in a time loop. Events are both happening for some and not happening for others at the same time. The more you do, the more dialogue unlocks.

I personally like the reminder that Queen Ayrenn wanted Argonian hatchlings murdered. No mention anywhere of the Covenant reviving their own troops over and over to the point of decay while EP let them fetch their dead in the night out of respect, I'd like to see more of that.

the one thing I will agree with, however, is disabling certain prologue npcs from screaming down my ear. That Tales of Tribute promoter can stay on High Isle, she doesn't need to be in the middle of major crafting areas or on intersections between crafting areas and the writ delivery.

Those playing on PC can use the addon Shut Yer Trap - Mute NPCs to mute only the NPC, including companions, you don't want to ear anymore. Much better than an other addon I won't name.

Those playing on consoles .. well they play on hardcore mode but like Darien Gautier they get all the ladies, or the lads if that's what they're into.

Thanks for the suggestion but I'd like it in the base game.

There's just one npc in the game that drives me truly, truly crazy, and it's not even Stuga. :D

The culprit is the argonian "bard" that appears in the Daggerfall market of all places, after completing (I think) Murkmire.

Literally everything about that creature is horrible, he's placed right across from the existing, actual bard, and is so loud that he completely drowns him out. It's so bad, that when he "sings" you can hear his droning voice all the way at the outfit station across the bridge. There's no sense of melody to it whatsoever and the Hist this Hist that nonsense completely destroys the ambient sound atmosphere. To top it off, he plays that frog horn thing, which is of course, also obnoxiously loud.

I hope that one day they will either drastically turn down the volume on that lizard, or better, just remove him outright.

Would be nice if the NPCs that are quest starters had an option in the dialog for not now. They then wouldn't yell at you as you went by. Downside is you would have to remember which ones you put on hold if you ever plan on doing them in the future. Also wouldn't help for when the NPC is yelling at other characters.
and then the parrot said, "must be the water mines green too."

My grumpy necro who doesn't bother with questlines would like to know why he can't just take that stabbed NPC stalker from Solitude out of his misery. He isn't loud, it's just disturbing how someone who's dying can have so much strength.

That addon silences too much. I tried it briefly, but having everything, not just the annoying person, shut up is too much.

I do want to re-exile Curtaros (sp?) all the time.

Now stabbing the card barker would be another thing. Along with the "The Guild Requests Your Help" lady in Blackwood! You get the latter 3 times if you do the daily crafting there.

The card game takes too long for the tutorial to run through it on all my alts. So I have to put up with it for a month or two on my alts until they have their riding fully trained in Alinor.

Card game pusher is a definite - and yes, I'd happily blade of woe her with my Paladin.... so what if Stendarr punishes him, he'd be fine with it, and he has never even considered joining the brotherhood, until now.

Outside of that, the old man elf screaming about his bride in the crafting area of Alinor --- he is the reason that only one of my 10 characters have ever done that delve .... seriously, he is keeping me from wanting to do content, because once I rescue him, I will be stuck hearing how he is full of surprises, forever......

He is not even a good singer, contrary to the lady claiming he is!

I think the actor had something in his contract that he cannot be suppressed. He usually stays quiet if you don't zone in inside the crafting area, but he will still sing away (even when not there) at times anyway. Must be a bonus clause in the voice actor's content, right! (That is a joke everyone, but he is still annoying!)

Agreed. It's dreadful and maddening after awhile. A lot of games have the random and repetitive NPC utterances, but they keep it short. They don't do long conversations like ESO does. I base myself in Mournhold, and I can't count how many times I've heard about "dragons in your own homeland."

Since we will never get this built into the game, I'll just say that that the one thing everyone can natively do is go to Settings > Audio > slide Dialogue Volume down to 0. That'll kill it. It might even make the game feel more immersive because all you hear are the ambient sounds instead of the shrill dialog for the thousandth time.

I've gotten pretty good at working with those sliders over the years. Honestly, at this point, I just play with the game completely muted and something else on in the background. It's not a bad idea to leave Interface Volume on, though.

I do my writs on 18 characters mostly in stormhold, i like the quiet but i get to hear about "bodies in the morgue blah blah blah" over and over and over. When its wearing just a little too thin i turn the dialogue right down to 0.

I would be happy if they just decreased the distance at which you trigger/hear the NPCs, or gave us the option to set it. If you're more than 2 meters from an NPC, their speech doesn't trigger. If you happen to get too close and trigger their speech, the volume ramps down to 0 if you get more than 3m away. As it is, sometimes it seems like I'm halfway across town before I stop hearing the NPC.

The dialog in Lilmoth is the worst. At least in base game zones they only speak the first time you pass by, but in Lilmoth it is every freaking time!

First it’s “I’m heading to the new Root-whisper Village, want to come along?”, immediately followed by “I may have chosen the wrong bait” and then “Did you hear that Cyrodiilic Collections managed to obtain the Golden Skull of Beela-Kar?” Three different conversations within the space of a few seconds.

Ugh. Glad I don’t have to farm there anymore.

    Very good idea OP.

Some of the anoying shouts can be silenced by simply accepting the quest (tales of tribute tutorial for example), you don't have to do the quest, just take it.

Unfortunately some of those are there for life with you. It is said that you cant go wrong in ESO, because all can be changed in your build, but nobody warns you, that if you do this one delve quest in Summerset, the singing guy at Alinor writs stations will haunt you forever.

Since I've dealt with Stuga and almost all the other prologue quest givers including the Dragons in your own homeland... the two I currently go out of my way to avoid are the Nord complaining about the altmer doing the Trials of the Hist near the Stormhold wayshrine and his companion. The repetitive "flavor chat" is what gets me the most. At least quest starters I can shut up by accepting (still a pain) but having to hear things like: "The dead coming back to life!" every single time I come out of the Markarth bank is super annoying, and it trails you a mile away. The acoustics in Tamriel are incredible!
