Is game speed off?

The speed of this game feels very off and in more ways than one.

Firstly, the speed of players, be it escaping or skipping, is hilariously out of whack. It feels like a hybrid of Game of Thrones and Sonic the Hedgehog rolled into one and honestly it doesn't really sit well. But why is player movement so fast? Well most of the content is rather bland and only persevered for the reward at the end so the developers conscientiously increased speed potential to help players skip most of it. (A case in point; dungeons. Players skip as much of it as possible just to get the rewards as fast as possible. Players in general are even so much in a rush they hardly if ever have time to greet their group).

Secondly, the average gaming machine cannot even render environments in response to mount speeds with added CP perks which kind of defeats the purpose of moving fast in the first place.

Lastly, it takes death recaps in pvp to inform you of what actually happened because it's literally impossible to visually track so many skills all going off in such a short space of time. This is why ESO pvp is about being proactive in fights against being reactive.

    1) Not everyone is fast, but the game has many ways to make oneself fast (major and minor expedition, CP, mythic item, mundus, swift trait, etc.). However, there is a speed cap for how fast one can actually be. Remember this is an Elder Scrolls game and not some fantasy game that is grounded in realism... drinks skooma

*You mention a lot of subjective stuff. I for one enjoy the content. Your belief of an ill dev intention for increasing speed potential is borderline a conspiracy theory. Your post seems to be based on your experiences during the event, which isn't the standard dungeon experience. Greetings aren't necessary but I'll greet the group if someone initiates it, but quality of a run shouldn't be based on whether players greet each other in a dungeon.

    2) Mount speed isn't something you have at onset, you need to earn it. People who have machines that can handle the speed should be able to enjoy that speed. People with outdated machines need to either focus on other things besides increasing their speed or update their machine. Speed isn't everything in this game.

    3) IMO this is only true if you're getting zerged down or ganked. In a proper 1v1 fight, you should be able to recognize what's going on to your character. Even if you're getting ganked, if you react in time you'll be fine, for the most part.

*I highly recommend for you to utilize the guild finder so that you can find like-minded peeps to run content with you.

    • Parse Food for PvE:(DPS) Ghastly Eye Bowl (increases Max Magicka by 4592 and Magicka Recovery by 459 for 2 hours).
    • Gold/Purple Food for Sorc PvP and Meme Tanking:(PvP) Clockwork Citrus Filet (increases Max Health by 3326, Health Recovery by 406 [useful if stage 1 vampire], Max Magicka by 3080, and Magicka Recovery by 338 for 2 hours). Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

The Elder Scrolls Series is the series where you could get so much athletics and acrobatics you could run incredibly fast and do some insane jumps. More than one video out there of someone jumping straight across all of Morrowind for instance.

The fact ESO lets us increase our speed, and has a speed cap to prevent absolute insanity, is pretty nice tbh.

Max speed hasnt changed, but it is certainly much easier to get to max speed than it was a few years ago. There is link in my sig to speed caps. Cant promise its totally up to date, but it has the broad strokes.

TLDR: Speed cap is 200%. Your base run speed (not walk, not sprint) is 100%. So really you need another 100% of buffs to get there. Sprinting is 40%. Major Expedition is 30%. Celerity is 10% (CP). Steeds blessing is 20% out of combat (CP).

So simply put, all I need to do is throw on something like VO or False God (Gives major expedition after a kill), use the right CP, and I am as fast as I can possible go between every pull as long as I sprint. Plenty of ways to source Major Expedition. And plenty of substitutes for Steeds blessing if you want to be capped in combat.

When I play on my 250CP alt account, I feel like I am playing in mud. So freaking slow. LOL. No trial gear, and not enough CP.

I guess I'll be one to agree with you and say that I also think the amount of speed players can get is pretty ridiculous, in many ways.
First; mounts. These things look like a joke while running. I usually avoid using anything that's not a senche because I think they look the least ridiculous at max mount speed. Also, I realized in Summerset a couple of months ago while going after some misc achievements.... I never really had the chance to appreciate the zone while playing through it. I would apparently run from point A to point B so quick that I just missed out on the scenery haha and yeah, that's partially my own fault; but in any other MMO I would not have had to tell myself "yo, slow it down so you can appreciate the map". And with wayshrines being so common in zones and fast travel readily available, I don't see why such speed is necessary. Except for maybe in Cyrodiil, but other than that.... I think it really takes away from the game.
Second; flat movement speed. I've always said that in ESO, range is a lie haha and it's become even more so as the years have gone by. Players are ridiculously fast (and yes, they do look just as goofy as mounts). With so many gap closers, dodge roll mechanics.... again, I just can't figure out why such speed is necessary haha and you are right, there are plenty of times where all sorts of players die without realizing what happened to them.... but I think this more has to do with the servers and desync rather than speed.... unless max speed is negatively impacting the games ability to keep track of everything and causing desync haha but I'm not the technical expert to say whether or not that is a thing.
I also often get loading screens while running on mount through cities and zones. It's very annoying haha because it's like the game can't keep up with it's own speed. Obviously this could be a personal hardware issue, but ESO is the only game I experience this in and I feel like that's kind of telling.
I think GW2 does a better job with mount and character speed, physics, and animations. You're not slow as can be, but you're also not zipping through the game like Sonic haha if you haven't played it, maybe check it out for a slightly different experience.

The speed is totally fine in pve, however it is pretty annoying in pvp and snares are essentially useless which makes matters worse. I would just like snares to be made more powerful and have less snare immunity so easily, that way there will be more combat and less chasing a target to Antarctica only to give up half way and reevaluate your life decisions.

This BG event will be a good shining example :)

100% agree. Movement speed in ESO is overall too high, and it actively makes a lot of the game worse.

Scary and dangerous zones are less threatening, farming and gathering resources becomes too easy, animations of all kinds look broken and out of sync, and combat just feels like a weightless mess.

Sadly, I don't see a way for the devs to reduce speed without angering a lot of the players who complain the game is "tedious" whenever a mob doesn't melt in half a second.

I come from MMO's that will take your stamina if you run a lot also since a serious car accident I get dizzy very easy while playing games...so I use /walk mostly.

My wife has started playing that way too and she told me it's insane what you miss while running.

    Still

Some people play the game like a cross vertical algorithm...they do their dailies, there gathering and the optimal repeatable content as fast as possible. They really don't care about anything else besides the system and that systems payoff.

To each their own I guess...

I think gameplay is slower, as a matter of fact! There are only so many times you can repeat dungeons, etc when you are and end game player. It makes you want to get through them really fast to get it over with. Especially dailies. I prefer this game at a fast pace. B)

Back in Morrowind I once jumped towards Vivec and overshoot, that is the city not the npc :)
    7 x fortify jump 100 for 3 second and 60 second of slowfall :)
Yes later learned that casting another spell with fortify magic 100 x 8 would increase the potency a lot.
Or probably crash the game like summoning 8 creatures at once :)

Now I always use ring of the wild hunt overland listen to quest unless its stuff I done a lot but it make moving around faster.
And if you are in an easy normal dungeon you can be sure the speed runners use it.
