How to prevent the "Undaunted" event degenerating into the "Fungal Grotto" event...

I didn't do any grinding during the event, except for one night when I decided to do several nFG1 speed runs. Otherwise, I was doing full runs (kill and loot everything) of one or two dungeons a day-- usually whichever ones were Undaunted pledges that day or from the day before-- and I managed to solo a few "part 2" dungeons for the first time ever, which was great. I think City of Ash II just might be my new favorite dungeon. :)

I did a random each day of the event and I can't recall getting FG1. Interestingly, the majority of the dungeons I got were DLCs. After doing the random I'd select specific dungeons I wanted to run, be that for gear or just the experience of going there. I only did DLCs in that manner. This event definitely didn't come anywhere near being a "FG event" for me; some guildmates were indeed hitting that dungeon countless times, but that had no impact on my fun, so why should I want to ruin their grind?

That's because you had access to DLC and many other dungeons.. now next time do it on a low level and pretend you're a new player and thinking this game only has 1 dungeon and why everyone is skipping all the enemies. By the time they accept the quest, the dungeon is over gg nice content.

I only did a couple of FG runs on days I didn't have time to play and wanted to get the tickets fast, and when it was one of the daily pledges. On all the other occasions I did pledges or randoms for keys and transmutes, and I got a variety of dungeons. I personally don't like to grind events, but I don't mind it if others grind, not to mention it's good for the market.

You don't have to do Fungal Grotto, though. I collected all new opal styles, and I mostly just did random+farmed Pillar of Nirn weapons. :)

I did a lot of randoms during the event and Fungal 1 was probably my 4th most ran on those. Did more on the 2 new dungeons and Falkreath.

Most of the dungeons I did, which means including the DLCs, were speedier than usual. People wanted to be done as quickly as possible so they could move on to the next dungeon. I believe anyone who tried to do the quests on non-DLCs, not just FG1, would likely have encountered difficulty.

Yeah doing the quests was tough. I have a new account with only one character and gave up trying to get the quests done. I knew the event would be full of speed runs though. Just like the PvP events bring out gankers that the rest of the year don't really bother with PvP this event brings out the speed runners in larger numbers. I'll start doing dungeons for quests maybe in a few weeks. That will give players enough to wind down from the burn out and start doing dungeons again.

On my main account I mostly farmed DLC gear and during the entire event only got one kind of bad group. We finished but our tank was obviously not a tank and one of the DPS got one shot often.

For the most part I selected five or six dungeons in the queue leaving FG1 off the selected list. One night I wasn't getting any groups (play on healer) so selected FG1 and got a group right away. It was really late though so probably almost anybody that was queueing was picking FG1 only.

Overall I enjoyed the event. I still think a player shouldn't get a reward for finishing a dungeon if the dungeon isn't finished. I think at the very least all bosses should die to get credit for finishing the dungeon.

I disagree. I hardly ran FG1 and I still managed to get all but 6 opal pieces(which I did buy). I used this as an event to farm out gear I wanted since there were double drops and completed 3 different dungeons. A lot of people I know did. Since some people wanted to farm FG1 they shouldn't be penalized. Just like I believe they should continue having double drops. There will always be a most efficient grind that some people will focus on. FG1 was that. But it was also an accessible grind for lower skilled players. Just like when we seen people grinding dragons during the Elsweyr event or Dolmens during the Zenithar event. Should we nerf those too? No. Let people have fun and play they want to. This game is hurting enough lately without more restrictions being applied.

If Zenimax wanted to avoid FG being heavily run during this event, they would grant the reward upon completion of a random dungeon. They do not since the GF has had reliability issues during previous events.

This is a very bad idea and developers would be wise to ignore it.

Even with people speedrunning Fungal Grotto 1 these pages sell for crazy amounts of gold, even here on the day after the end of the event, and completing a full set is probably hard to impossible for new players unless they're super lucky or super committed.

PVPers endure all manner of complaint when a PVP event arises, with a litany of demands that PVP not be required to participate in the event. Let's not make one of the already dozens of exclusively PVE events require MORE PVE than it currently does.

There are literally 24 possible base-game dungeons to choose from. Okay, 16 of those are really 8 pairs (Spindle, Darkshade, Banished, Fungal, Wayrest, Elden, City of Ash, Crypt of Hearts), plus eight single dungeons (Crucible, Volenfell, Tempest, Blackheart, Arx, Selene, Direfrost, Vaults), Any person can do any of those - assuming they're level 50 and up. If you've got just ONE character of that level you could still do enough dungeons to get 16 opal pages per day, which is not exactly a small number, even if you had no DLCs, and were not a ESO+ subscriber. If you have 2 characters of that level, you get up to 32 opal pages per day, from the base game alone.

(And with Imperial City being free, add 2 more dungeons to the list for 18 opal pages per day per character.)

I fail to see a problem.

16 is literally nothing to the folks farming fungal grotto and assuming everyone who is doing this event has multiple toons is dubious. Additionally there are only a handful of specific dungeons relative to the boss that drop the helm motif, both opal and regular which is super rare. I had to run dark shade 2 probably 35 times to get the regular helm style which is only dropping from this event in that dungeon. So should we have only gotten one shot at that a day? Which means there is effectively no chance for me to get it seeing as the event wasn't a month long. Or do I get multiple chances and keep being able to farm it?

No way that mmo players minmax events to save time, personally I always queue as a tank for CoA2 with 5k dps randoms from group finder so that it takes 45 minutes per character instead of the 5 minutes I would spend in FG1.

I mean I can solo any dungeon that doesn't have a group prereq or an unskippable boss with an unblockable instant death attack. Heck, I can solo some dungeons with bosses that have instant death attacks with the right toon and the right gear if I cheese out 5-10 seconds of 300k+ dps. Totally possible and doable, not reliable or fun, but if I'm in the mood, I might pull that out of my back pocket to kill off the troll in Frostvault, or Gamyne from FG2. Only works on normal dungeons, and on bosses that don't have thresholds of invincibility AND an insta kill attack.

But that's not fun to do. I'd rather just solo FG1 on a more casual dps and fill up my sticker book on event stuff than anything else because it's fast. I can do a couple runs in a night of that, but I don't really have time to run longer dungeons more than once since like most people playing this game, I have a job and responsibilities. It's nice to have the option to do easy stuff like this.

Also, the complaint is "I hate running FG1 over and over, so lock me out of doing that so I have to run other dungeons." Just do a different dungeon then. You have free will and self control, some people like me just don't have the time to run through Cradle of Shadows. Get the wrong group and you're in there for 30-45 minutes. I have an hour tops every other day, I'd much rather do my crafting dailies then run FG1 5 times than do one dungeon and possibly have to bail part way through since I can't stay on too long.

Certain things did not and won't like the normal helm motifs that drop super rarely like the engine guardian one that is now selling at 850k in guild traders as it was a shot in the dark to get. I was lucky enough to get one after a crazy grind but I kept it for myself. Also knowing what will increase in value is important. Specific engine guardian motifs like the daggers and staff increase in value dramatically given a few months because people actually want it for themselves and they drop less as well it seems compared to some of the others. Prior to the event the dagger was unfindable and the staff was selling at 1m. Next undaunted event will be different sets so they will continue to go up in value. If you have either of those 2 hang on to them.

To me this simply isn't a problem. I don't like running FG outside of the undaunted event and I surely don't want to run FG when there are much better dungeons to run during the Undaunted event. If people want a mind numbing 5 minute dungeon run let them have their fun; I'll queue for Unhallowed Grave, Stone Garden, and other similarly fun dungeons.

If it pops when I do my RND then it's a fast clear and I can get back to my normal dungeons.

While I don't disagree with the suggestion for spreading out the population over other dungeons (I actually like the idea of getting people into other dungeons rather than it just being a Fungal Grotto 1 Event), I think, in general, this event achieved that much more than previous events simply due to the curation on coffers. People eager to fill out their remaining stickerbook collection took full advantage of the event even without the opal style pages.

For those who don't care about the stickerbook, I fail the see the problem with people just running Fungal Grotto 1? If four people in a group want to do one dungeon over and over ad nauseam, how does that affect you unless you're hoping to sell the style pages?

Admittedly, Fungal Grotto 1 was my most run dungeon throughout the event. I ran it once per day just for my daily event tickets. I'm not the target for the suggestion to put a cooldown on a per dungeon coffer/style page, but I also don't see why it's a big issue.

The problem is random queue fills you into specifically queue'd dungeons so during the event you'll likely get FG1 90% of the time, pretty annoying if you're leveling alts or just don't want to see the same lame dungeon 24/7 where you sprint through and kill a whopping 2 bosses. In a perfect world of considerates if you wanna farm it then go full premade and teleport to the dungeon stop ruining randoms but hey community never cares what damage it does as long as there's profit in it. If I were new and started in this event I'd be like wtf dude same dungeon 9000 times?

I would just avoid random during this event after you got your tickets, once the motifs are massively inflated like now you'll be buying them at pennies on the dollar anyway so there's no point in farming them outside of the first couple days where you can sell them for a mill a pop easy. Its pretty pointless to have them now unless you wanna wait 6+ months or next event to sell.

For those of us that have been playing a while the obvious choice is to stop random queueing but new players probably don't know that and others who are random queueing for xp are doomed to see FG in their nightmares.

Here's a thought... Have all dungeons be selected by default for the "Specific" dungeons so if you want to speedrun FG1 24/7 for 2 weeks you'll have to deselect all other dungeons each time you queue, just like we atm have to select all others except the speedy Gonzales ones.

I assume that ZOS's general intention for the event is not having players do one dungeon in 4-5 minutes over and over again, but rather to encourage experiencing pretty much every dungeon. I don't judge the speedy Gonzales, but it adds a chore to select dungeons every time I queue for random that is fatiguing and tarnishes the experience of the event. Let the Speedfest do the chores instead to deselect all but their favorite speedspam before every queue and let the rest of us simply deselect a couple of dungeons.

This could also introduce a tick box for the DLC dungeons, maybe even for both types. Click deselect all DLC dungeons or click deselect all non-DLC ones. Might be a QoL improvement in general for everyone, it would seem.

It does reset, but it isn't immediate-- and should not be. I've had to port out of dungeons to my housing so I could deconstruct gear to free up inventory space, then race back to the dungeon, enter, and take the portal to the last-killed boss so I could loot anything I'd been unable to pick up earlier. I'm not sure if the boss's corpse despawns if it hasn't been fully looted, but I know I've had to go back through dungeons looking for the treasure chests because I'd gotten to the end without finding them. Now I've got the deconstruction assistant and no longer need to worry about leaving to deconstruct loot and then rushing back for the rest of the loot, but just because I no longer need to worry about that doesn't mean that no one else does, either. The reset should not occur right away.
