Please let's not talk too much about if the update stinks or not. Today is the first day for me, as I'm waiting to put my wife and kid to sleep so I can play lol, and I'm excited.

Excited despite it all because theory crafting and playing different characters is fun for me.

So please, share what gear, builds, and classes you look forward to using. Nbs? Wardens? Anything else?

Nothing huh? Bummer. So I decided to go with warden after venturing into cyrodiil for a bit and seeing some wardens doing well.

The list of buffs or well 'changes' they got is enormous. I'm sure everyone won't agree but I like the penetration passive... I like the new bugs... The instant stun on arctic is amazing... The minor resolve on vigor (so not needed but thanks,) I mean what else? The mag morph of cliff racer gives you 400 weapon damage for hitting an off balance player?? Uh, yes. Oh and lets not forget the wings. Falcons swiftness now grants snare removal for 4 seconds??? I mean that's stupid strong.

So my toon is a hybrid I guess... Because I took the mag morph of beetles and decided to actually use the mag morph of cliff racer. I just didn't see why not to... Besides the insane penetration and off balance bonus, we get a bonus to magic damage. Its dumb stamdens do poison damage tbh but that's a different story.

So okay... I play in Ravenwatch, so we're talking no proc. Heartland conqueror 2L3H2M, reinforced and well fitted maybe 1 impen. 3pc agility, 3pc trainee active on both bars with the markyn ring of magesty. Dual wield maces, nirn and sharp... Nirn sword n shield back bar.

Orc. Havent settled on a food or drink yet. Warrior mundus.

Front bar: mag beetles, falcons swiftness, vigor, mag birds, spin to win, Dawnbreaker
Back bar: ice fortress (minor protection morph,) BLUE netch (back bar for sustain passive,) arctic blast(stun morph,) vines (life steal morph,) and the stam mushroom heal.

So you can probably tell from how I wrote that... I havent played a warden in a while, and if I'm being even more honest it took me so long to put that together last night that I havent given it a serious test yet.

I'm absurdly confident in it though. Like... It looks too good to be true. I'm sitting at a healthy 6k weapon damage front bar... A whopping 20k pen for anything my beetles touch, and... I dunno.

Basically armor capped on the backbar. I feel like I have everything I need and more.

And by more I mean a free heal every time I use cliff racer or beetles, and again every 4 seconds just for being an orc. The ability to burst heal with mag or stam depending... Heavy attack for stam, blue Betty for mag. Extra sprint speed added to falcons swiftness for being an orc.

Anyway I'm excited, can you tell? Gonna smaaaash people. Bet.

    thanks @OBJnoob , great read :)

i still need to go through all my toons (17, fairly unique builds - i'm starting to standardize more and more though as the years pass)...relying more heavily on the toon's passives to determine my playstyle with that particular build...

i play in gray host on both servers on the playstation platform...

still using all oakensoul builds, not cuz it's OP or anything - it just makes playing easier...

early order of business is to switch out calurrion's legacy for orders wrath on my nightblades...

i also need to dig in deeper on the major buffs that got dropped from oakensoul, just need to see what gaps (as far as buffs) i need to fill in with either gear or skills...

i usually switch up builds once or twice a year, my mag dk is probably the only character who's kept the same build over the years...it hard to get a fire "build" wrong :p

i imagine, sooner rather than later i'll start putting different toons in mara's balm...

I’m playing with different things on my Templar and can’t find anything that feels as strong, or even close to, as last patch. It’s a bummer because I love templars, but might be shelved for now…

I play a lot on Xbox Green Ranger Tommy...I run an off meta Necro harbinger tank that specializes in crowd control...I've already got a full maras set, so for pvp it's maras/harbingers, and pve it's battalion defender/rushing tide or maras/battalion defender
  • OBJnoob

Always kinda wanted to try harbingers... You get that with tel var don't you? Harbingers and/or I think its called radiant bastion? Similar effect. I'm not sure if I got any maras yet or not... Prolly just sell it if I do. I always play with the idea of making a proc setup for bgs but end up just doing my Ravenwatch setup instead. Honestly I do okay.

About templars... Yea that's too bad. I'm kinda glad they got nerfed (in PvP only,) they've been annoyingly strong for too long. But I think beam execute rangeplars is supposed to be a thing now... Have you tried that yet?

About oakensoul I was kinda glad to stop using it... It was very fun and IMHO not as OP as people thought... I just honestly got tired of only having 5 skills to use. I enjoy the hectic fast pace I guess. But I'm curious, what toons is it good on in its current form? I worry they nerfed it too much... People were really crying hard lol.

As for me... My alliance wasn't really on last night so I got to try my warden build outnumbered. The survivability is there I can feel it but unfortunately these were players roughly my own skill level so... Can't say I did great. With continuous attack and the off balance cliff racer buff my weapon damage is more like 6.6k. Which, with 20k penetration, feels like it should hit SUPER hard but... It didn't? The 2nd hit on magic beetles really does feel like an eternity-- its annoying. Cliff racer doesn't seem to do much damage either. So... I dunno, still a work in progress. Then again I did 1 battleground, it was a death match, and I went 10-3 on the 2nd place team in my no proc setup. So its not that bad.

now you got me curious @OBJnoob - when it comes to defense, is your first instinct to block or roll dodge?

  • OBJnoob

Well I'm not gonna tell you I'm smart/fast enough to always do the right thing... Cyrodiil is hectic and I can't always pay attention to what is going on and choose the right dodge or block. But in 1v1s I do whatever is best. Which I might mess up the first time but once I see what skills they are using I block aoe and roll single target.

My warden uses a shield backbar so I lean more towards blocking with him... But I still roll sometimes.

My stamsorc is wearing gaze of sithis. Do I sometimes accidently block cast things with him? Absolutely.

I pretty much do both equally. But in the no cp campaign where I play sustain is rough so... Rolling is expensive. And a good thing to know about blocking is that while its okay to hold it for a heal or two in emergencies you really shouldn't hold it for longer than 2 seconds. If you get the timing right you can hold it for a second, then let go, then hold it for a second, then let go, and your stamina will continue to recover. There's block casting but there's also using block to animation cancel skills. Basically the same as a bash weave.

Uuuh. Yup. That's all I know about that, lol.

We had a good little scrap/stalemate last night @OBJnoob . You were testing your Warden and I was testing a new Necro build. The necro was using Rattlecage Heavy Chest/Legs and infused jewery, Gaze of Sithis, with Dagons small pieces and weapons. Sometimes Rattlecage is nice to ensure that you don't have to manage the Maj buff and frees you up to use Tri-Pots or Immovable Pots.

You have some other great sets there too. Nothing wrong with Heartland Conqueror, I've used it well in the past. Agility/Trainee/Markyn setup is decent in there for sure, I think that's what my Warden used to use. Twice-Born Star can be a good set as well for some builds, and I've always had good luck with trusty ol' Spinners or Spriggan's. New Moon used to be a staple. If you can figure out how to sustain with it it's a solid option. I've been having a lot of luck with the Jewels of Misrule food lately on multiple builds (cheap version of Bear Haunch really).

I also have a new Stam Warden trying out Titanborn/Pariah/Gaze of Sithis but mostly because I had the pieces in my bank at the time. I swore that I wouldn't use Pariah again though because every time I use it I hit like a wet noodle against anyone that I -want- to hurt.

In both the Warden and Necro's case though, it's the burst combo that I find tricky to get down pat. I've become spoiled with that Magplar that I've been playing awhile, his Purifying Light, Explosive Charge, back up a step, Dawny, LA + Jabs with Jesus beam just felt so smooth and was super effective. Jabs is nerfed now though so he's become a rangeplar. It's been a little bit since I've touched Warden or Necro with any seriousness, I hope we get more scraps 1v1 to test out our builds. :)

@CaperGuy yes we did have a good little fight. Sorry I had to run off on ya but things were hairy. Your necro seems solid... And I agree that rattlecage is worthwhile sometimes. I used it on a pretty tough magblade brawler last patch. I'm kind of a fan of those sets with the double 5 piece. Rattlecage and uh... Shalks. Can't go wrong with health and weapon/spell damage for a 2-4 piece.

I'm thinking I might change heartland for shacklebreaker. I can't necessarily kill tough players 1v1 but I can take a beating for days. I'm trying to build my max stats up, hence the triune jewels and 3 piece trainee, and honestly for xing I think the sustain will be better. The reason I want max stats from sets is because I'm using a blue 1 hour drink that gives me 450 magic and stam recovery. Forget the name but it was super cheap and I think I like it lol. I have also been using jewels of misrule on builds lately.

I'm always happy to 1v1 you caper I like testing stuff out for sure. This is my only "u35" build so far but that aforementioned magblade will be making a reappearance for sure.

@gariondavey hey thanks for your comment man. I'm not sure I agree... But maybe? I think it would be very similar. I mean there are two bonus one piece monster sets obviously and that outweighs a single trainee but a single trainee bonus is greater than most (same for agility,) so you have to factor than in as well as the markyn stack. I like that you get a lot of bang for your buck out of trainee and agility. And I like that markyn ring is offense and defense. And in no proc cyrodiil heartland is offense and defense too as you change bars... Very handy where most backbar sets don't work.

Yeah I had to go to bed. Starting a course at a local college so I have to force myself to go to bed at a proper hour. That Warden looks like a beast! I have the mag bird on my Magden but that particular morph I hasn’t yet tried on my Stamden. I did try Northern Storm at one point. I’ll eventually settle on something I like, just need to find opportunities to test different things.

660 armor isn’t not 1% mitigation, though it is different. Personally, when I’m playing competitively in PvP (or PvE for that matter), the gold pieces vs. purple pieces are different. I’ve been 1v1 and was one hour away from being the winner, or 2v1 and a crit is what took me down, or 500hp extra per heal x3 HoTs over a 15 second fight, can make the difference.

    Again, strictly competitively speaking.

I find that the difference between having heavy reinforced chest and not having it isn’t even noticeable. Which is why on plar I choose full divines in order to scale my spell damage extra high, that way my heals are better. It’s simply a matter of preference, there’s not exactly a best in slot trait for gear right now and it comes down to playstyle/build. I should have light belt medium legs though, if I wanted like another 200 armor or so, not exactly a game changer but it makes the stat sheet look a tad bit more impressive

Yeah I pretty much agree with you J. When the throw a build together I want it to be good... I use some transmutes, gold out things occasionally... But if there's one or two little details not quite optimized I'm gonna take the build out for a spin anyway. And if I do well I may forget to ever go back and fix it.

To be honest I only have two sets of body armor completely golded, and neither of them are on the warden I'm currently playing.

I only really PvP so I've never had much gold in this game. I gold weapons of course. And I buy golden jewelry from the weekend vendor.

A lot of armor was referring to changing light pants to medium. I didn't have the exact amount for this off the top of my head. The answer is 1221 to 1823, or 602 more armor.
That combined with reinforced on the heavy chest, another 660, is roughly 2 percent more mitigation.
    Not inconsequential.
There is a reason min maxers use reinforced on the chest, and light on belt.
I understand you wanting to cut costs, but this isn't "very little changes" if you are playing against skilled opponents who know how to optimize a build.

2% mitigation is hardy marginal. Is it min maxed? Sure, it is. But 2% mitigation is hardly even noticeable to a human. Let’s say something hits me for 7k, 2% of that is only 140 dmg. Health recovery covers that number alone. A good player can do very well on a build that isn’t 100% optimized, and I do very well on this build in bgs and duels and I drop double digit kills almost every match. One could argue that if I wanted to truly play this build optimally I wouldn’t even be doing it on a plar, I could be doing it on a s2w warden instead

My build is min maxed for damage with the gear I have available. It’s far from the BiS setup running sea-serpents, rallying cry, essence thief, and balorgh/bloodspawn with a piece of trainee. It is simply what I like to play, and something that I myself have had success with against the players even left on PlayStation NA and I figured I would share since most of the Templar pvp builds on YouTube are builds that I myself HAVE tried and have little success with

Sorry to burst your bubble that an extra 600 armor won’t carry you to victory. A good player is good regardless of what spec they run, and that remains the same regardless of platform. If your excuse when you lose is “oh I’m missing 600 armor that’s the only reason you won” then I don’t know what to tell you

Hmm. Well, I don't think anyone is trying to say you're wrong @gariondavey just that he doesn't have the gold transmutes and time to change every little thing. I sympathize with him honestly... All I do is PvP, and I can only play from like 9-11pm every night. I know 2 hours of gaming isn't anything to complain about, but I think some of us are able to play more than that... And some of us would if we could lol. But so when I log in every night... I know I should do a daily. Clean my bank. Put things in the trader. Gold out my gear. But I always just go to cyrodiil instead. And knowing 1 or 2 things aren't perfect on my build does nag at me... But it is what it is.

And no I don't play in god tier premades... For one thing I solo queu. But after ONLY pvping for years and ALWAYS holding my own I would think my MMR is decently high and my opponents have some level of skill.

Please don't think I'm offended or think you were even talking to me. I just think Jman and I are coming from similar standpoints. And I also declined some of your good advice earlier, which might've put you off.

I have since thought about it and realized that you meant wearing a different mythic than markyn altogether. Not sure how that went over my head... At first I thought you meant just wear markyn with a 2 stack.

P.S. so... If I were to swap my trainee helm and epaulets for say domihaus and swarm mother... Is there a mythic you would recommend I use instead?

I was frustrated when I pointed out how jman's build could be optimized better and they brushed it off. In ultra competitive environments, where skill is matched, every tiny bit of optimization can be the the difference in victory and defeat. Their last post was pretty disappointing too. Oh well, moving on.

As for your question/our earlier exchange, I was meaning when people use markyn, sometimes people focus on trying to get the 3x value out of it, but this forces you to use 3 piece trainee, which is pretty bland/doesn't give opportunity for focusing on different stats.
For example, 2x bonus on markyn, then 1 piece trainee, 1 piece magma incarnate, 1 piece baron thirsk gives you 129 x 2 mag and stam recovery. That, combined with atro/serpent (which are more stat dense than other stones) could let you run sugar skulls (very stat dense) instead of a regen food that might not be as dense (witchmother, dubious cameroon throne, etc).
That's all I meant with the markyn comment...3 trainee is just hp 1500 hp stam and mag, but other 1 pieces can offer some stats that can allow you to squeeze a little more out of your set up.
In rw I do prefer to run triple infused with wild hunt rather than swift with markyn. The extra movespeed, especially on scroll runs and moving in and out of keeps, etc, is just too good to give up in areas without celerity and other cp movespeed increases.

Hmm, interesting. So you do think I should use a 2-stack markyn. I've done it before, I know its okay, but again I want to ask you if under the circumstances you would recommend a different mythic?

As far as trainee... Yes, it is bland, but ever since hybridization (which I for one love,) I have adapted most of my builds to have more of the off-stat and also more off-stat recovery. And of course you NEED a certain amount of damage... NEED a certain amount of armor... And so what has fallen by the wayside for me on my builds is max stats.

I guess I was kindve enjoying trainee... I even used triune on some of my jewelry. But maybe I tricked myself into thinking its more useful than it actually is. The way I'm setup now I'm running a blue food that gives like 450 mag and stam recovery. Because I have to.

If I could... Well, its kinda complicated to talk about. I think I tried to do what you're saying but I guess I did it the wrong way. I'll change to a tri-stat food... Change my head and shoulders to recovery... But I don't think that'll be enough. But maybe if I switch heartland for shacklebreaker that'll be my sweet spot.

Aaand, last thing, what you said about jewelry. I don't really run swift I probably should, I know a lot of good people swear by it. Honestly on my orc warden I find that falcons swiftness is all I need. Its a very powerful skill the way they buffed it and honestly doesn't cost much to use.
