So, my ESO+ ended; Zenimax sent an e-mail saying that. OK.

Then in the e-mail, it says "please print this e-mail and save it for your records." What?? Why would anyone print and save in records an e-mail that ESO+ ended? Who wrote that?

In case there is a mix-up and you get charged anyway, or some similar mishap.

That makes it sound as if ZOS has a history of continued billing even after cancellation, and they know about it.

I'd just save the email for at least 30 days. That way if they continue to bill you even after cancellation you can just forward them a copy of their own email confirming your cancellation.

It can be helpful to know when your ESO+ ended in case there is an error in billing, or if they give out some promotion for ESO+ that you barely qualify for but something goes wrong and you don't get the item. You can prove despite the cancellation, your ESO+ benefits should still have been active.

    Example:

Let's say you paid until the 30th and then cancel on the 15th. They tell you that your benefits will continue until the 30th, but you will be removed from auto-renew and you won't have ESO+ anymore come the 1st. And then, they put a free painting in the crown store on the 29th for everyone that has ESO+ benefits. You should be able to claim that item since yours don't end until the 30th, but you aren't able to do that because of some weird glitch with the crown store. You could submit a ticket and they could get you that item since it was still within your paid time period.

These things are rare, but they want to cover all their bases and make sure you do as well. So, it's generally good practice to hold on to these types of documents for like 90 days. Not just with ESO+ but in general. You probably won't have to use them (and certainly don't need a hard copy if you just save a copy to your computer) but on the off chance you do end up needing it, you'll be glad that you had it.

Don't forget to screenshot the printing order so you can then print that too for your records.

I don't know, but the post about keeping the printed email safe deep within the Pentagon seemed on-topic.

As stated, keep for your records. There may be instances were a rebill occurs and ZOS themselves loses records of your cancelation. This will help in correcting that.

There also may be a very very rare instance in which ZOS cannot for various and again rare circumstances not be able to issue a refund on the billing (again this is very very rare) in which case you would want this document as proof of cancellation for the financial institution you paid the eso+ from.

Records like this should be kept for a minimum of 90 days beyond when the charge should have hit your monthly statements.

Really comes from older times of filing cabinets. Becomes a legal CYA that they told you to keep the receipt as it were. As if now; you couldn't just as easily find it in your deleted folder. Probably a good idea to not rely on deleted in case of big ticket items. I wouldn't bother with a $15 subscription

    Not really.

It used to happen with quite a lot of online purchases - until some time ago, every time I bought a game on Steam, I got a message to better print the receipt. And many others as well.
It might also depend on jurisdiction, i.e. some countries not accepting digital proof, so sellers reminded buyers to keep a paper receipt. (And some international companies just adding the text all the time, instead of regionalising instructions.)
Although the frequency of these reminders has decreased lately, in my experience.

P.S. I also concur that for safekeeping printed emails from ZOS, nothing less than the Pentagon is appropriate. And I am positively shocked and aghast that some people value ZOS' communication so little that they deem this vital information to be "off topic".

I print out hard copies for things like this, and changes to terms of service, etc. and store them in several filing cabinets. It's also important to store duplicates off-site in case of some disaster wherein your original documents are destroyed.
I have several cabinets labeled "E" for Elder.

I laughed when I saw that message in my eso+ cancellation confirmation email last week too. Who is printing emails these days? I couldn’t even tell you the last time I used my printer at home.

You know, I suppose I just automatically translate that phrase into something like: 'print' a copy of it to PDF and stuff it in my 'records' folder; OR take a screenshot of it and stuff it in my records folder; OR moving the email to my 'archive' mailbox. Or some combination.

It never even occurred to me that the topic was about actually physically printing it on paper until I read a few of the other responses. :D

edit: I use Print -> Save as PDF all the time. So the "Print" function in menus & webpages doesn't immediately make me think of paper printing.

    This actually will work
