Is there a minimum level to find nirncrux in Craglorn

I took my new level 18 character into Craglorn - mostly just wandering around, grabbing the odd resource node, and in general, checking out the scenery.
I have others, but felt like just wandering with him..... and I found a High Iron node that gave me a single piece of Rubedite along with my high iron ore, a log that gave me a piece of rubedite, and a bit later, a mushroom that gave me a piece of rubedite.

Yes, it was all rubedite - I still have no nirncrux, and I had the little exclamation on the rubedite when I looked in my craft bag for that character.
Mind you, that character has NO points spent in ANY crafting... he only has Blacksmith at 2, because I found a book on it at the stargazer location ......

Was I supposed to get Nirncrux, and the server mixed up one red ore for another? Or is there a minimum level requirement to find it, and I got a substitute because I was too low?

not sure on the level but nirncrux is a low drop i've gotten lucky in 4 or 5 in one run but i've got a maxed crafter so take my experience with grain of salt on that.

Keep in mind, that onle northern craglehorn is able to drop these, southern does not.

Yeah, that isn't true as the other person said. I've had a fair few from the Southern part of the map.

I don't think there's a minimum level requirement to find nirncrux. I've found it on a character around level 25 and done big gathering sweeps on my level 50 mastercrafter and gotten nothing. It's a rare drop so it's not surprising you didn't see any.

(Incidentally a computer doesn't care what the icon is and can't 'see' them in any meaningful way so it couldn't mix up two red ores, if anything it would give you an item with a similar item ID, but according to UESP Nirncrux have the item IDs 56863 (potent) and 56862 (fortified) and rubedite ore is 71198 so that seems unlikely.)

It used to be true when Craglorn first came out, but it was changed years ago.

I'm not sure of the exact reason but I suspect part of it is that the separation between upper and lower Craglorn isn't obvious or all that meaningful any more. I didn't get there until after it had been changed and I really struggled to see where the divide was. Same with following the quest chain, yes I started with ones nearer Belkarth and then was sent further out, but that's not unusual and there was no point where it was obviously 'a new area has just opened up and now we can continue into it'.

It's good the map and quests were designed to work that way, but it does mean if someone told me I need to go to upper Craglorn to find nirncrux I wouldn't actually know which part/s of the map to search.

So they have changed this. I have not seen the change in the patch notes, so i thought it is still present.

It changed in Update 8 to drop from anywhere in Craglorn, then in Update 12 had it's drop rate doubled with the coming of One Tamriel

According to UESP it was changed in July 2015, but I'm not sure which patch specifically.

The PC version still got incremental patches back then and the console versions had just come out so there were a lot of patches.

It's a good change to know. There's obviously a few folk who think it's still Northern only. If you farm down south there's nowhere near the amount of competition for nodes. I'm more or less the only one farming at times in that area. Go up north and there's usually others without fail.

Thing is, I went back and after an hour, my upper level guy got one --- fortified, but he got one....

Went back again, and over 3 hours, my lower level guy found one ruby ash log... again, definitely NOT something he should have found.
Then again, that character seems to have something with harvesting, anyways..... sometimes I hit the E, it goes gray, and then he stands there like he forgot why he came in the room.

If another player who is at the rubedite level (either character level 50 cp 160+ or has passive 10/10 for Blacksmithing) “looks” in a rubedite node, it will stay as rubedite until it resets. It will also contain anything they left behind. Just like a chest.

I’ve found wood nodes that only contain a plant furnishing, for example, which shouldn’t normally happen. I assume the player who got there first took the mats and left the furnishing behind.

That's good to know ... still the issue of finding one rubedite ore on a log, one on a plant, one one in a jewelry node .....
Maybe it's a side glitch with the new patch, or just something from that night ......

I am just taking a break from some of my top end characters, and running something new...... and yeah, people have laughed, but it is working well - Redguard Sorcerer with a great weapon......

@Auldwulfe Nirn can drop at any char level but nirn isn't a common drop, bare that in mind when you farm resource nodes all over Craglorn.

Yeah, I know it's slow going from my upper end guys, but 6 hours, last night, and finding the rubedite bits in things other than ore nodes was odd --- seems to be be fine today - took another low level guy there, and doing my normal little circuit got one potent in about an hour....

Maybe it's my one guy, or just last night.

Lower Craglorn is where the enemies are VR11 and Upper Craglorn is where the enemies are VR13.
