Mac Controller mode broken since last update

Since April I have been playing on Mac with steam and PS4 controller without any problems. After the last update the ingame mode changes continuously between controller and keyboard. Buttons are not responding, have to be pressed twice or execute differently (I use default controller settings). Map zooms out and drifts to the left. The game is unplayable. Have filed a ticket and am getting the expected standard answers that offer no solution. Except that one of the answers states that I must enable accessibility mode first in order to enable the controller options in the gameplay menu. But these are greyed out and cannot be activated. The error message that I am getting is that these options have been disabled by accessibility settings. If I then turn accessibility mode off I can enable controller mode in the gameplay menu without any noticeable effect. Anybody else experienced similar issues? I play on MacBook M1
