Yes, they are totally random. You can find them on dead bodies or in the same places you find recipes but I don't think you can find them in crates and stuff like that.

Ive prolly looted over a thousand containers today and I've got just the RedGuard one. In all the betas I played, I only got one other and I made Provisioning my mission so I was looting everything. Before they nerfed Coldharbour, people were getting them like 2 and 3 a trip there :)

I think you'll have the best luck finding racial motifs in dressers and bookshelves. You can usually find at least one in the the dungeon area where you first start in the game after creating u're char. U can usually find at least one in the starter islands. I found 2 of them on the starter island Cold Harbour? of the Ebonheart. Also check any bookshelves in any dungeon or in the mages'/fighters' guild. The bookshelves do reset themselves after a certain amount of time.

Focus on dressers, wardrobes, nightstands, desks, trunks. That's where you will find them - if you are thourough.

You don't need to find them, you can make them, well in a special way... Roll a new char in a different race and let him produce some items. Place them in the bank and get them with your main char. Deconstruct them and you gain the racial style. It took me only 3 helmets to learn kajit style.

Are you on the EU or US server? I play on EU and if you're interested i can buy it from you for a nice amount of gold. :)

And the strange thing is, two hours after posting this topic i found the Redguard racial book, redguard armor on a Nord looks pretty cool. :)

I've had one toon get 5 from the intro urns during beta. I've gotten on 2 from the intro on 2 separate alts. Another 2 alts got the tomes from searching every container. The most unlucky tomb find was for an orc during beta - she found an orc tome..

That is so random! How many motifs do you have now? :)

Started yesterday with 2 other friends on the Dominion side. I chose a dark elf for the bonus to duel wield. Needless to say, they have ugly leather armor with a broom for a helmet.

Within a 12 hour play session, one of my friends found 2, the other found 3. I found 0. FML.

They actually ARE tradeable.. So hold on to whichever ones you get that you won't be using! They will be worth a good amount.

You don't need to find them, you can make them, well in a special way... Roll a new char in a different race and let him produce some items. Place them in the bank and get them with your main char. Deconstruct them and you gain the racial style. It took me only 3 helmets to learn kajit style.
You are saying that if you deconstruct stuff made from a player it has some chance of also dropping his racial style?

Do you just learn how to do that specific item in the new motif or does that unlock everything?

They are definitely super random, but somehow I got super lucky and on my imperial got an argonian book out of an urn in the undead barrow on bleakrock isle. Also kinda related, I am noticing mobs dropping provisioning recipies, and also for those to be in the backpacks you loot from. Keep the klepto tendencies up and I am sure you will get a style book soon. :)

Deconstructing does not give you the book, it grants the knowledge. You could make some items and give them away instead of a book. And I'm not absolutely sure but I think it includes all items, not only one.

Oh, I forgot, I heard in beta quite often that it took 3 items, so it is possible that numbers are fixed and not chance based... I just don't know for sure

The racial motif books are very rare and show up in the oddest places. During beta I found one while standing in an Inn listening to the Bard. Found it in a trunk sitting right next to me. Last place I would have expected to find one.

One way around not finding these is to have characters of different races. By default each race can create in their own motif. So you could, in theory, have your characters create items in their own motif, stick it in the Bank and then other characters could pick up and use it from there. The downside of this is that you will have to train up crafting on many characters and that will take quite a few mats.

No need to train or invest skill points. Every new char can craft all basic items in his specific racial style. Leave some mats and appropriate stones in the bank (all chars share it) and it should be no problem. All that could happen is a gained crafting level.

Not completely true, you need to invest a skill point to craft steel weapons for example. So I can't make that with an alt who doesn't have steel smithing unlocked. But for early level gear this works of course ;)

I found two racial motifs (Bosmer and Breton) in the Skywatch bank (Auridon). Each time I visit the bank I check the cupboards and closets. Most of the time there are racial crafting stones and also racial motifs on a few occasions so I would recommend this to all crafters!

Damned, I forgot i posted that here, too! Warning! My advice is wrong! Maybe it was possible in early beta or it is based on a translation error, but it won't work in live environment. I tried to reproduce that (and some more people) with no success. Deconstructing will give you racial *material*, not *motifs*! Don't waste your ore ore leather! Sorry for spreading a false rumor...

No, just coincidence... I think I picked up a book before without noticing. I deconstructed 3 helmet and relized I have khajit style. But I could not reproduce that. and I id try... Also this info is nowhere to be found, so if it truly worked more people would tell it. It's not meant to be for 1st april, but it would have been a good one...
