Bored of always playing the same players in ranked

I have been paying attention and I always play against the same 20/25 players, even when the rank has 100 players (and more if we count the ones that go in and out from it).

However, I usually always play against the same players. From time to time, I get to play someone I haven't played before.

Why is this? Why the same 20/25 persons if the ranking has 100+ players?

Those are probably the players who play during the same timeslot as you at the same/similar skill level.

So there can be 10.000 players playing and I will always play the 20/25 similar to my skill?

It's literally that I always play the same players, regardless the time of day.

    It's getting really boring.

If you want to switch up opponents, trying to play a bit of unranked. If you're playing ranked and you're of a sufficiently high rank, you'll probably keep playing against the same handful of people because that's who's available. If there are only like 25 people of your skill level on at the same time of day as you, you don't exactly have a large pool.

If there were 10,000 players playing you wouldn't get matched with the same 20/25 players since there would be more players in the pool to play against. Last season top 10% in rubedite was around rank 140-160 (PCNA), which means there were roughly 1,400 - 1,600 players in rubedite in total. Now if you take into account that not all of those players are actively playing ToT, that many of them won't be queuing at the same time as you, the game trying to match you with someone at the same rank as you, people just getting to rubedite for the trophy then stop playing, etc. the number gets pretty small pretty quickly.

I agree with you that it would be nice to play against a larger player pool, but unfortunately that is the state of the game atm. Hopefully with the new patch and once they eventually allow people without High Isle to play ToT there will be more people playing.

They need to make tales of tribute free to everyone, making it an exclusive game for a DLC makes it tough for the masses to get into it. I think the card game was a great idea, but to release it as part of a DLC wasn't such a hot move imo. The game would reach a far larger audience and maybe bring in more card game players if it was available to everyone at the start, like pvp is. Some ppl come in eso, and just pvp the whole time. No eso+ since no need for craft bag or anything, just straight pvp. Why can't this be for the card game too?

In similar vein, I sort of wish the unranked games were anonymous. I might throw myself into pvp games more if my constant losing humiliations weren't against the same people. As it is, I have to feel in robust confident mood to deal with my embarrassments.

I wonder if this would encourage other people to give it a go as well? I completely understand why ranked isn't like this though.

At least the option to turn on anonymous mode would be appreciated :) I do think its a valuable option to have, but I also like the social interaction of seeing the same people / friends from time to time!

People got easy Rubedite when it launched clearly because there were so many fish in the sea to feed off of. Anyone starting now will have a MUCH harder time getting Ranked achievements.

I just started a few weeks ago and for the life of me can not get out of Ebony every time I decide to give Ranked another chance. The only people still playing are far too good. I often run across all the same names too. All the other fish left the game already it seems. I used NPCs exclusively, and finally got Lvl 8/Orgnum last night for the Furnishings. But I still can't win a single Ranked match. I'm outclassed by every single game. I watched Pink Apple videos, took note of which cards are most ideal to grab. It clearly didn't help.

It makes me not even want to try Ranked anymore, I already gave it up for a week. If I'm being honest, I wouldn't even try if they didn't lock achievements behind it. I'm now starting to lose interest in completing the daily quests. These will probably end up being achievements that I pretend don't exist, and completely write them off.

the problem is that, really TOT games get tedious and boring after a while. there are 8 decks total, 4 of which require some other actions to be unlocked. which means that on average you are playing with people that have 0-2 of those decks unlocked and as a result you really only get to play with some of the unlocked decks.

as a result, often in my own personal experience, the games get repetitive compared to other card games of the same type.

What? Where in this forum or anywhere do I say that there are not many people playing ToT? Where? Point me to the link.

That I play against the same players it has been explained by others it is because of similar level algorythim, not because of lack of players.

In fact, there are thousands and thousands playing, mostly outside the Rankings, because they can't make it to the rankings.
