How will Update 35 affect the time you spend on the game?

People are saying that they are going to leave the game and unsub from ESO+ if Update 35 goes live. A lot of that is likely just tough talk but I thought it'd be interesting to get some actual numbers.

I'm not going to hop on the bandwagon of "I'm cancelling my sub." I'm going to wait until it actually goes Live and see what's changing. Despite expecting more to change in Week 3, which ultimately seems very underwhelming, stuff can still happen between now and then. But I'm not naïve either. If it goes Live in it's current state, according to the changes from 8.1.0 to 8.1.2, I'll be playing a lot more of another game. Right now, I only justify paying a subscription for one long-term MMO, and that's ESO. So you get the idea. I will reserve judgement until that point.

Takes me 20 mins now to do writs, pick up daily gift and do easy endeavors. I won't go to any trouble. Will be deleting my EU account entirely and taking another three alts off main NA account.

As of today, assuming this were to go live as is, I'd be spending less time on ESO. There are still two weeks left to sway me one way or the other, but I generally only play one game at a time so any time not playing ESO would probably be spent trying out new things and if one of them were to grab my attention, my ESO playtime would drop to near zero, at least for a while.

As a console player, I can't say yet because I don't have access to the PTS.

My overall thinking is "wait and see", but I don't see this being something that ruins the game for me. I'm not supportive of the patch, but will reserve final judgement until I experience the final changes.

My warden main is a generalist who mostly heals and does overland. I'm not a progression player, so I don't think the impact will be as deep for me as it would be for others. The latest patch notes don't scare me as much as the original proposition, so I'll most likely just adjust as needed. I have at least one of each class, so I'll be able to play whatever is BIS. My two backup mains are a Dark Elf Nightblade and High Elf Templar, so I think I'll be covered.

    This is a tough one.

I am spending significantly less time in the game following Update 33. Update 35 just adds to that, but it is hard to significantly spend less time twice. Significantly less than significantly less is just a little less when viewed separately.

I have already limited my playing to just logging in to manage my traders. If the patch goes live as is, then odds are I'll stop playing altogether. I'm not against adapting and rolling with the changes, but I just don't feel like ZOS has any semblance of roadmap for this game right now. One thing is for sure though, when I turn my Xbox on and check to see what my friends are playing, I'm not seeing any of them playing ESO right now either.

My friend is a warden and is a bit of a hybrid who likes to do things his own way. No meta, no BIS. He has however experienced multiple nerfs (bow/vampire/now warden) and has stated he will leave the game if this goes ahead. He's a casual player who doesn't do dungeons much, doesn't do trials, doesn't pvp - could care less. Loves overland questing and RPing and has done the quests for the bulk of the zones. He's been playing since the game launched and I think this will be the final straw for him.

    Just giving another perspective.

I myself am hardly pushing what can be achieved in endgame, but I've reached a certainly level of DPS that's a far cry from what I was at. I enjoy this part of the game - gear and skill combos and weaving in an attempt to get high numbers - but I also love questing overland, RPing with my friend, farming, trading, furnishing houses. I spend a lot of money on this game, but if this update goes live as it is, where my dps takes a substantial hit and healing gets more frustrating (another thing I enjoy), I think I'll just go play Skyrim Together Reborn with the dude %)

I didn't cancel my sub because of this change, I do it routinely just after subbing because I hate auto-renew subs.

My ESO+ is up after today and Im not renewing. Maybe I will be back late fall for the second half of High Isel or maybe not. We'll see.

For me, this is Strike 2, if anyone is keeping track.

Update 33 changed Account Wide Achievements, and basically removed an entire way of playing the game that dated back to launch. Happened to intersect with how I liked to play. Bottom line for me is that I have less reason to play, and therefore play less.

Update 35, so far, has introduced significant combat changes that make the game less fun. This Update stands out compared to updates that mainly tweak the skills and sets that get used too much. These are usually just annoying changes, more like a mosquito when compared to the Update 35 hornet. I am sure that I can adapt, but they have given me no reason why I would want to do that. "Trust us," says Lambert, a little out of context. :unamused: Update 35 adds nothing to bring me back to the table aside from two dungeons. Those dungeons should have been all that was in Update 35, aside from bug fixes.

Nothing on the Tamrielic horizon for me until later this year, so when I am done with High Isle, I should become scarce around here.

I play on console. I don't know yet how Update 35 will affect me. Since AWA update, I only do new story content once. I have been playing trials and dungeons with guild mates between new story content drops. I have read reviews saying that Update 35 will hurt average players. If folks that I am grouping with quit playing trials and dungeons because of Update 35, then I will end up playing another game.

I am already spending significantly less time in ESO than I used to. This is the first weekend I can remember (not including things like vacations) where I've just not logged into the game, not even to do daily writs. And if I didn't have my core prog group today, I probably wouldn't be loggging in today either. Right now, the only thing keeping me from quitting for good is that I have a good 6+ months left on my sub.

Probably not. Raid comp might shift to more necros (which is already meta) and more NBs instead of "for fun" classes like wardens and templars but I foresee no real change in my daily life in ESO as an end game raider. We still have every intention of getting Swashbuckler. Business as usual on that end. Plus every patch the houses and furniture keeps getting better and better so I'm definably staying for that as well. The story isn't bad either. I want more adventures with cute druids.

That's cool you're still enjoying the raids but I gotta disagree with you on the furnishings.

High Isle dropped what? 100 blueprints? The quantity seems to go down 50% every year. I'm not even trying to exagerate. And the houses.... this is the first big summer dlc with no house we could buy for gold- and no explanation for why.

And yes, I know more blueprints will be dripfeed out over the next 6+ months but that's actually part of why i unsubbed, the dripfeeding of content I've already installed and paid for is just.... cynical and exploitative.

It's too early to tell. I don't do the PTS as I view it as something I should get paid to do or at least get free ESO+ to participate in. My time is either for having fun or getting paid for my efforts in some form.

But, U35 sounds really bad. I rely very heavily on light attack weaving with every build. It's been the mainstay of almost all combat for a very long time. And, I loathe the new animation for jabs and play templar a lot.

So we will see once U35 goes live, but I anticipate it being a huge disincentive to spend time playing ESO.

Playtime will be the same. I play 2 builds currently:
    • Sorc Burst Healer
    • Bash Build
Neither of these are largely impacted by Update 35. I've confirmed they perform similarly on PTS and Live.

Pretty much all I do is vet/hard mode trials and have started progging trifectas. Hard modes and trifectas might be out of the question now, so my progs need to finish before the update. Whether I keep playing depends on how my guild and friends react to the update. If my best dps leave the game, it's pretty much over for me.

Many of the people I play with have already quit or will quit.

I largely enjoy the social aspect of the game, a lot of people have moved to Lost Ark, I'll probably join them.
I won't leave entirely-- but I'll be playing a lot less, and I doubt I'll still have my sub in 6-12 months.

Tbh it depends, if it goes to live server as it is on pts week 3 (or similar) there might be no point in playing since a lot of pve content won't be doable and doing dungeons and trials on normal is not fun. I might give it a try for a few days, maybe a week and then decide but if the question is based on a current pts state - I'll play less.

While it is a pain in the ass it’s nothing to quit over. The changes they have walked back are in the right direction for sure. Lack of real meaningful class identity has been present for a while and them needing sorc sucks for sorc mains but I just play 1 character and always have - a nightblade. Nightblades look fine this patch so I’ll be here but they need to do something BIG in update 36 this winter.

Already installing New World. Spider-Man getting a PC release soon too! Time to check out some different games until the next mega patch overhaul makes my StamSorc LA build fun again. So... 3 months? I give them 6 tops before they have a radical redesign again. They can't resist.
